Born Leland Tyler Wayne, the 24 year old St. Louis native has had a storied year with 5 Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles - garnering Kodak Black, Big Sean, Future, Migos and Lil Uzi Vert, their highest placements to-date. Jacques: He's also responsible for a slew of other Billboard hits. Check out a few: Jacques: Boomin's Hot 100 dominance peaked in mid-November when he produced 10% of the songs on the Hot 100 chart for the third time. The Wall Street Journal's Neil Shah noted that he'd done this twice before in 2015. Jacques: Metro's prolific output lead Music Business Worldwide to name him the number one songwriter for the first half of 2017, surpassing Ed Sheeran, Jack Antonoff and frequent collaborator, Migos' Quavo. Metro: I just knew in the back of my mind, like, man, if you putting this much time in this, all day, you not doing nothing else one day it's gotta work. Jacques: In June, Metro began a partnership with Republic Records and Universal Music Group for his own label, Boominati Worldwide. He's fought for producers creative rights as well, calling out the Atlantic Records-funded Artist Publishing Group, a label-services company, for quote: ...want[ing] to slave you and steal your music to make hits. In December 2017, Metro announced the 'Double or Nothing' project with rapper Big Sean. This would be his third rapper-producer project of 2017 after October's 'Without Warning' with 21 Savage and Offset and July's 'Perfect Timing' with Toronto's NAV, peaking at number 4 and 13 on the Billboard 200 charts, respectively. He also produced all of Gucci Mane's 'Droptopwop' and a large part of 21 Savages' 'Issa Album.' As for the Grammy snub, Metro has been quiet but Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig said this on his Beats 1 show: Ezra: It's not just that he's a cool producer - he legitimately produced these huge crossover rap songs. He had a really crazy year. Very few producers ever have years like that. He was the producer of the year. Jacques: I'm Jacques Morel with Genius News, bringing you the meaning and the knowledge behind the music. Peace!
