  • Hello today we're going to be talking to

  • the people of London and asking them about

  • their new year's eve plans what they're

  • doing

  • why they like New Year's and why it's so

  • important to people and whether they

  • have any new year's resolutions

  • alright I'm here with anthony and what's

  • this guy's name

  • I'll let him tell you. Oh, nope, shy. Ah he's shy.

  • ok maybe later yeah, he mugged me off

  • I know. Rude, English

  • So the first question for new year

  • how are you celebrating it for this

  • year i am actually going abroad

  • I'm going to Austria to have a look at

  • what they do over there

  • yeah, go to Austria but then I think

  • we're taking a trip to Italy as well so

  • i'm gonna get a really nice cultural

  • awareness yeah exactly a bit of an awareness but

  • normally in England I'd go to

  • my parents sort of chill out with my parents

  • Okay, eat way too much food

  • yeah drink too much and then fall asleep

  • watching Jools Holland so the alcohol

  • consumption is it quite high for

  • you and your parents or just you? Umm same for

  • everyone really the house yeah yeah is

  • special like whenever works so hard you

  • know across the year and then Christmas

  • and he is the time to really let loose

  • A: and drink as much as you want. C: Let loose or let it all go

  • Let it all go, exactly.

  • and then have an argument probably yeah so er

  • it ends like that often doesn't it, yeah!

  • I'm here with my new friends Sky

  • and Alicia with friends right? Okay thanks

  • i want to ask your question about new

  • years, umm do you guys have any new

  • year's resolutions this year to be more

  • positive i would say yeah. To be more positive? Yeah

  • and stressed less

  • and yeah that's probably it. I'd like to do all the things that I

  • didn't do this year. Okay and what things didn't

  • you do this year that you'd like to do

  • just putting things aside just getting

  • just be more productive. Are you the kind of guy that

  • puts things off a bit

  • yeah yeah, yeah a lot. Same as me

  • actually that's kind of my resolution

  • like sincerely I think I put shit off too much in

  • my life

  • yeah and what do you think could reduce

  • stress this year? Umm I dunno just like seeing the

  • bigger picture umm and I guess

  • like planning ahead more I don't umm yeah, I dunno.

  • Nice, it's quite a personal question really!

  • Do you think New Year's Eve is

  • overrated?

  • I do yeah yeah I do I mean I haven't had

  • a lot of variety in my new year's eve

  • experience but I mean even like we've

  • been living in London and wanting to go

  • see the fireworks and things like that

  • that would be like the idea of it is

  • amazing

  • yeah and when you get me like there's

  • hundreds and hundreds of thousands of

  • people millions of people here and they just can't get

  • home cos the tubes down you know is that kindof thing, yeah, but umm

  • and you're you're trapped like sardines

  • I know it's not what you need but i think

  • yeah i mean i think it is kind of

  • overrated again I think it depends on

  • who you spend it with really.

  • very true, it's all about the company

  • absolutely absolutely

  • yeah so who you spend it with and just

  • don't get too drunk. That is, that would be my

  • advice anyway. i like it.

  • Err, Louise

  • do you have any new year's resolutions err

  • for this year? i do have a new year's

  • resolution if I don't complete my last

  • one will be to do the splits

  • I'm about an inch away so hopefully can

  • you explain to our foreign learners what

  • the split are?

  • Cameraman Charlie - "Or better yet, show us?"

  • not on this floor without

  • warming up that would be dangerous but

  • it's splitting one leg forward and one leg

  • back

  • it's a gymnastics move yeah that's the

  • one. Are you into gymnastics? Umm I'm a trampoline coach.

  • if that counts

  • a little, I'm not very good I can only do a

  • little bit but dancer mostly

  • Nice, and err last year you said you have

  • accomplished your new year's resolution

  • what was it? Err well that was it, to do the splits.

  • Oh, so I've only got a week or so

  • to try and get that last bit

  • Just that one inch

  • and if you don't manage, if you do manage to do that

  • next year do you have any other resolutions?

  • Ooh errmm probably to do split leaps in the air

  • better next

  • so that's jumping in the air with your

  • legs split

  • Can you remember your worst

  • New Year's Eve experience?

  • Ahh, yes I can i was at a drama school and

  • had a massive argument with my other

  • half at the time and then all of our

  • friends around it just wasn't pretty

  • yea, no one had a good time. it just kind of ruined the evening

  • I think I'm not... maybe

  • I was drunk, dunno but no I remember that one

  • being, was it me that had an argument?

  • I don't know. I dunno if it was me or not

  • Well someone ruined it. Someone had an argument and it ruined it.

  • but err it was all very

  • dramatic we we're at drama school and drinking

  • too much...I keep talking about alcohol.

  • that's bad isn't it.

  • just keep talking about alcohol... the Brits are alcoholics.

  • I know, it's yea..Would you say we are

  • compared to other nations? Not the Irish

  • maybe not. No not the Irish. I'd say

  • yeah I mean on average i think we like a

  • drink more than anyone else

  • yeah yeah but I think it's like a steady

  • flow of drink we don't always get

  • hammered all the time

  • err well saying that...just contradicting myself at

  • the weekend it's fine it's fine

  • yeah yeah compared to dry countries we're

  • probably a little bit more?

  • Probably. I don't know, yeah, your right yeah

  • Last year what were your resolutions

  • and did you accomplish them?

  • I can't remember

  • I think they're basically the same but

  • yeah probably not

  • I probably accomplished them for about the first week

  • and that's probably about it.

  • I didn't have any

  • I never have any. If you hadn't have asked me I

  • wouldn't have even thought of it, you know?

  • Try and improve every year but

  • That's cool

  • I'm glad I asked, maybe I'll make a difference

  • Any new year's resolutions?

  • That's a good one

  • Err I'm gunna work harder definitely gunna work harder

  • a lot more editing yeah a lot more editing

  • a lot more everything bits and

  • bobs just yea kind of really

  • concentrate this year and make 2017

  • really successful because i did that

  • last, well I kind of thought, ooh 2016's gunna be my

  • year to really go for it okay and

  • nothing happened umm but that's probably due

  • to my over... I was kind of

  • overestimating myself maybe. Pipe dreams are good

  • Yeah exactly i know i've learned from it yeah

  • i can move up but umm

  • yeah I really wanna work hard and I think for everyone

  • 2017, err 2016's not been a great year

  • just with like all the stuff that's been going

  • on in the media and the amount of people

  • that passed away. Famous people that passed away

  • I don't know why but that hit a lot of people

  • quite hard for some reason umm and obviously war isn't great.

  • As well, that's not great but yeah 2017

  • work harder, concentrate more

  • try my best to spend a bit more time with family, you know.

  • A bigger and better 2017 at work

  • 100%

  • Okay, my other question is what do you typically do on New Year's?

  • Catch up with friends generally.

  • Usually there's a

  • big group of us umm we all get together

  • every year, so I shall probably do that, not

  • sure where yet but yeah that's the general gist of it.

  • What are your plans for this year for new years?

  • Are we going to a party, right?

  • yeah, a friends party

  • what happens at these parties?

  • cos in other countries you know sometimes New Years isn't a big

  • thing, sometimes it's at different times of the

  • year what how did the British celebrate New Years?

  • Umm basically just drinking and talking and the countdown to fireworks.

  • Just a good chance to see old friends, make new friends.

  • It's pretty casual isn't it I mean people make quite a

  • big deal of it in terms of drinking

  • Yeah, that's about it.

  • Stay up till midnight, yeah?

  • later obviously

  • Nice, is there any traditions after midnight like

  • in Spain every every chime of the clock. Ding!

  • They put a grape in their mouth.

  • Do you do anything like that?

  • Nah, we've not heard of anything like that really.

  • One other question

  • Okay

  • What's the kind of, what's the past New Years you've ever had?

  • Oh gosh, umm I had a good one in America

  • watched the ball drop in New York in

  • America on TV and had friends doing

  • silly games again in lots of different

  • rooms have silly games in and beer pong

  • learnt how to do that

  • What about you? Oh, you know I haven't even

  • thought about it I write all these

  • questions but I didn't even asked

  • I haven't even thought of the answer... for myself umm I

  • probably want to get them a little bit

  • more balance between travel and work

  • nice because I'm one focusing a lot on

  • work and at the moment i'm living in

  • germany and I should be traveling europe

  • but at the moment I'm focusing all on my work and

  • forgetting to travel, right, enough.

  • So that would be good. Yeah absolutely yeah,

  • So here's to a bigger and better, traveling world wide, new year!

  • Absolutely!
