  • Welcome to Girls Game Shelf. We're playing Avalon today.

  • This is a role deduction game. Super fun. Super secretive.

  • Every person is dealt a different role card. You don't know who is who.

  • You can be Merlin. You can be an Assassin or a Minion of Mordred which is EVIL.

  • Or you can be a good guy. (Which is the pretty blue color with blue eyes!)

  • But nobody else can know if you are good or bad.

  • You have your Fail and Success cards and your secret voting cards.

  • And then you have your quest chips.

  • Everyone takes a turn deciding who is going to go on a quest.

  • And when you decide on your people, maybe three people or so, everyone else votes whether or not they should go on the quest.

  • So if you think someone's bad, you don't want them to go on the quest.

  • NO! I think that person is a Minion of Mordred! I reject this quest!

  • But it stays hidden, so nobody knows you reject it.

  • Or you approve it.

  • So depending on who you are you are either going to approve or reject this quest team.

  • Once we decide if "Yes, we're going on the quest" or "No, we're not"...

  • The team decides individually if the quest is going to be a success or a failure.

  • Good wins if they successfully go on three quests.

  • Evil wins if they stop good from going on three quests

  • Or if at the end of the game they figure out who Merlin is and assasinate him.

  • And that's how you play.

  • Christina- "Everyone knows who they are? Good and bad?"

  • Christina- "Hands in."

  • Christina- "Eyes closed"

  • My favorite moment is when the assassins reveal themselves.

  • Christina- "Minions of Mordred, open your eyes!"

  • Christina- "Minions, close your eyes."

  • Christina- "Minions lift your thumb up. Merlin, open your eyes."

  • Well I got to play Merlin so that was pretty cool. Even though it was my first time and I didn't know what I had to do!

  • I knew immediately when I pick people to go on the quest, to pick the right people.

  • Christina- "Everybody, hands down. And Everybody open your eyes."

  • Michelle- "Jill, you should chose me for a quest because I'm good."

  • (laughter)

  • Christina- "So basically you get to chose two people, maybe even yourself to go on a quest."

  • Michelle - "Well if you're good, choose yourself"

  • Michelle- "Okay, oh, alright. So what happens is we each take a success and a fail card. So go ahead."

  • "We're going to secretly choose which one it is. Since we're both good, it's super simple, you just put your success right here."

  • (laughter)

  • Michelle- "So the way that we play normally is the next person get's to choose."

  • Christina- "That sounds fair. So... Marie..."

  • Maria-"Let's switch it up."

  • Michelle- "Oh an assassin would say that!"

  • (laughter)

  • Christina- "Ready?"

  • All- "OOOOOHHHHHHH"

  • Maria- "That's interesting."

  • Christina- "Nobody trusts you!"

  • Michelle- "Oh see!"

  • All- "OOHHHHHH!"

  • Okay the moment that just killed me was when we flipped up that double fail.

  • Because I knew. I knew that the jig was up.

  • Like, Michelle was definitely not an assassin and she knew both of us were.

  • Like it gave us away. And I was just like "Oh! The game is over!"

  • Christina- "FAIL."

  • Michelle- "Well now I'm excited that I know who two of the assassins are."

  • Christina- "Talky talk talk talk talk. That's what you're doin right now!"

  • Merlin. Assassins. No problem.

  • I'll just tell everyone. And then we'll know.

  • That's not the way it worked out.

  • Melissa- "One, two, and then one more?"

  • Christina- "She hasn't gone. Looks nervous."

  • Melissa- "Okay let'd do it."

  • Christina- "Not everyone is such an extrovert, Michelle!"

  • Michelle- "I'm just saying, if you knew you were good though."

  • Maria- "Oh I didn't even think about that."

  • Michelle- "Yeah, because you're an assassin as are Melissa and Christina."

  • Maria- "I just realized that I was Fing myself by putting in the wrong card."

  • Maria- "Oh because if you're good you always have to put good in."

  • Michelle- "You have to put in a success"

  • Maria- "I didn't think about that."

  • Michelle- "yeah."

  • Christina- "Going! Yay!"

  • Christina- "So you guys, who are going on the quest get to do your little challice-y things."

  • Christina- "Oh we forgot to hand out the little shields."

  • "You're going. And you're going."

  • Christina- "I like this. Makes me feel like a magician."

  • All- "oohhhhh!

  • Michelle- "As an assassin you were able to put an assassin in. Like SARA."

  • Sara- "gasp!"

  • Michelle- "Oh my god! You're so bad at lying!"

  • Michelle- "Now there are two fails, so one more fail and we lose."

  • Michelle- "There do have to be two fails on this next one. So two assassins have to go on this one."

  • Michelle- "So I have a feeling that the people who are good include you, me.."

  • Christina- "Michelle. Michelle.. Do not try to inform her decision. EVIL ONE."

  • Christina- "You are trying to manipulate this situation so that you will make us all fail."

  • Michelle- "Assassin."

  • Christina- "Alex, you have to pick the.."

  • Alex- "I have to pick 4 people."

  • Christina- "The good people."

  • Alex- "One, two, three and four."

  • Michelle- "I'm fairly certain that that's okay."

  • Michelle- I love that we don't even really specify about the quest."

  • Michelle- "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter! We're going to go, we're going to win. It doesn't matter."

  • Christina- "I'm so curious who you are really. WHO ARE YOU REALLY?"

  • All- (except the assassins.) YES!

  • Michelle- "Good crew! Good crew!"

  • Michelle- "I don't trust you at all."

  • Christina- "Of course you don't. You're an assassin. I'm a good guy. Our types don't mingle."

  • Jill- "My favorite moment was being with a group of people and laughing and guessing and it wasn't at all stressful. It was just really fun.

  • Michelle- "This is the last one, so if you want. Oh no you can play it front of us. OWN IT."

  • Christina- "Oh really?!"

  • Michelle- "Oh own it!"

  • Christina- "Ok. Ready?"

  • Michelle- "This is the last one. 1,2,3, own it."

  • Michelle- "TOLD YA"

  • All- "AHHHHHH!"

  • Maria- "I wanted to switch it!"

  • Christina- (Evil laugh)

  • Christina- "Wait who are you?"

  • Michelle- "Who do you think Merlin was?"

  • Maria- "I thought you were."

  • Jill- "When does Merlin say...When would that happen?"

  • Christina- "If the good people win then the assassin"

  • "the person who gets to be the assasin is like BAH HA, I will kill YOU, MERLIN."

  • Michelle- "But I'm not."

  • Christina- "You're not?!"

  • Michelle- "No. I'm just really good at this game."

  • Jill- "You're Merlin?"

  • Michelle- "I thought it was actually Alex."

  • Christina- "And then we were the assassins. YAY!!!"

  • Michelle- "I called it immediately."

  • Maria- "I totally thought you were Merlin."

  • Maria- "You thought I was an assassin!"

  • Michelle- "You didn't choose yourself for your quest! And then you looked legitimately sad afterwards...

  • "..that you hadn't thought to choose yourself. So I was like, alright. Yeah, we'll give it."

  • "And then I mean, Sara couldn't..."

  • (laughter)

  • Well, my least favorite part of the game was most likely losing.

  • Uh, I loved the game. I love the nature, like the collaborative free form talking part of the game.

  • And I just love how fast paced it is and how easy you can jump in without having any experience with a game like this. You can just roll with it.

  • Oh I love the game. It was fast, easy to learn, it was my first time.

  • I love the fact that you can get a whole bunch of people together and you start playing and everybody can suddenly be friends right away.

  • I liked, LOVED, the game because I just love getting so into it. All the strategy in it and um.

  • Even though I didn't know the game at first, you get to know the game as you go along.

  • I would put it on the shelf definitely. I'm thinking of buying it.

  • Oh on the shelf, definitely.

  • I would put it on the game shelf, immediately take it off and maybe play again. Because, we need it.

  • Shelf it. I would shelf it for sure.

  • Let's put it on the shelf!

  • Definitely on the game shelf, I would put it right on top, ready to reach and bring out for parties.

  • So there you have it. 7 girls played it. 7 girls loved it. It goes on our game shelf. It's a winner.

  • Join us next week when we're going to be playing King of Tokyo. See ya then!
