  • >>SAMUEL L JACKSON HAS BEEN CRITICAL OF HOW CASTING

  • DIRECTORS HAVE DECIDED TO CAST BLACK BRITISH ACTORS AND

  • AMERICAN FILMS AS OPPOSED TO BLACK AMERICAN ACTORS.

  • THE

  • RECENT EXAMPLE HE GAVE WAS THE

  • FILM GET OUT WHICH IS A PRETTY GOOD FILM, CHECK IT OUT.

  • HERE IS

  • THE ACTOR THAT WAS CAST IN CASE

  • YOU DIDN'T SEE THE FILM.

  • HE WAS ACTUALLY PHENOMENAL.

  • I THOUGHT

  • HE DID VERY WELL IN THE FILM.

  • >> PART OF HIS POINT WAS THAT ñ ESPECIALLY FOR MOVIES LIKE SELMA

  • WHERE MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS PLAYED BY A BRITISH ACTOR, IF

  • YOU LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND THIS COUNTRY HAD A DEEPER

  • HISTORY OF RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION THAN GREAT

  • BRITAIN DID, THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE

  • MORE VISCERAL REACTION AND THAT MIGHT HELP YOUR ACTING.

  • IT IS AN

  • INTERESTING CASE TO MAKE.

  • I BOTH AGREE AND DISAGREE WITH IT IN PARTS.

  • >>I THINK THE WHOLE POINT OF ACTING IS THAT THE ACTOR IS

  • ACTING.

  • I DON'T CARE IF IT IS A BLACK GUY FROM BRITAIN OR THE

  • UNITED STATES.

  • I CARE WHETHER OR NOT THAT GUY IS THE BEST FIT FOR

  • THE ROLE.

  • I THOUGHT IN THIS CASE THE ACTOR DID A GREAT JOB IN THE

  • ROLE.

  • I UNDERSTAND THE CONCERNS,

  • BUT AT THE SAME TIME I FEEL IT IS AN UNFAIR CRITICISM BECAUSE

  • IF YOU ARE JUST CASTING PEOPLE

  • WHO PLAY THEMSELVES IT IS NOT INTERESTING.

  • I THINK ACTORS ARE

  • SUPPOSED TO ACT, AND IN THIS

  • CASE THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED.

  • WHAT DOES ANNOY ME IS WHERE THEY WILL

  • CAST A NON-ARMENIAN WOMAN TO

  • PLAY AN ARMENIAN IN A MOVIE.

  • THERE ARE ARMENIAN ACTRESSES,

  • WHY DON'T YOU JUST HIRE THEM INSTEAD?

  • >> THAT IS NOT THAT FAR REMOVED FROM WHAT SAMUEL JACKSON IS

  • SAYING.

  • >>I THINK IT IS.

  • HOW IS IT ANY DIFFERENT FROM A WHITE PERSON PLAYING AN ASIAN

  • PERSON?

  • >> WHAT HE IS SAYING IS THAT BLACK AMERICANS HAVE A DIFFERENT

  • EXPERIENCE THAN BLACKS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD.

  • I AM GOING

  • TO QUOTE HIM AGAIN.

  • " WHAT WOULD A BROTHER FROM AMERICA HAVE MADE

  • OF THAT ROLE?

  • SOME THINGS ARE MADE UNIVERSAL, BUT NOT

  • EVERYTHING."

  • I AGREE WITH YOU THE WHOLE POINT OF ACTING IS

  • ACTING, YOU TAKE ON A DIFFERENT

  • ROLE.

  • THE WOMAN WHO PLAYED CORETTA SCOTT KING IS ALSO A

  • BRITISH ACTRESS.

  • SHE CLAIMED THE

  • OPPOSITE.

  • THAT IS TOTAL HORSE SHIT.

  • THE PART THAT ANNOYED ME

  • AND WHERE I STARTED TO AGREE

  • WITH SAMUEL L JACKSON IS THIS -

  • I GET THE ECONOMICS OF WANTING

  • TO HIRE ACTORS WHO ARE NOT AS

  • EXPENSIVE.

  • BUT THIS WHOLE CLASSICALLY TRAINED STAFF ñ A

  • LOT OF THE BRITISH ACTORS GET

  • TRAINED IN THE THEATER.

  • SO THE THEATER ACTORS ARE BETTER THAN

  • NON-THEATER ACTORS.

  • HATE IT,

  • DON'T BELIEVE IN IT AT ALL.

  • THAT GETS UNDER SAMUEL'S SKIN, I

  • AGREE WITH HIM.

  • THEATER ACTING

  • IS DIFFERENT THAN MOVIE ACTING.

  • IT IS NOT ANY BETTER.

  • IN THE

  • THEATER THEY OVERACT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REACH THE GUY ALL

  • THE WAY UP OVER THERE WHO CAN'T

  • HEAR.

  • THAT IS WHY THEY ARE ALWAYS SCREAMING AND

  • OVERDRAMATIC.

  • I HATE THAT BECAUSE IT LOOKS SO

  • FAKE.

  • I WOULD ARGUE THAT MOVIE ACTORS ARE BETTER THAN THEATER

  • ACTORS.

  • I KNOW FOR THE REAL

  • ACTORS THEY WILL BE SHOCKED.

  • OVERALL I DON'T THINK JACKSON

  • MAKES THAT COMPELLING A CASE ON

  • THAT.

  • ON THE OTHER HAND IF THEY THINK THEATER ACTORS ARE BETTER,

  • I GO BACK TO BEING ON JACKSON'S

  • SIDE.

  • JUST BECAUSE HE WASN'T CLASSICALLY TRAINED IN BRITISH

  • THEATER IS NOT A GOOD IS AT AN ACTOR?

  • I DON'T BELIEVE THAT AT ALL.

  • >>I JUST DON'T CARE.

  • AS LONG AS THE ACTING IS GOOD.

  • IF A PERSON

  • KNOWS HOW TO PLAY A GOOD ARMENIAN ACTRESS, THEN FUCK IT,

  • JUST HIRE THEM.

  • I DON'T REALLY

  • CARE.

  • >>ONE LAST THING, JOHN WHO WAS ONE OF THE STARS OF STAR WARS

  • SAID, " BLACK BRITS VERSUS AFRICAN-AMERICAN, A STUPID ASS

  • CONFLICT.

  • WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR IT."

  • HE ORIGINALLY DID THE STAR WARS

  • ROLE IN HIS NORMAL BRITISH ACCENT AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS

  • UNBEARABLE SO THEY MADE HIM DO

  • IT IN HIS AMERICAN ACCENT.

  • THAT IS WHY WITH THIS STORY I AM KIND

  • OF WITH SAMUEL L JACKSON.

  • BRITISH SOUNDS SNOBBY.

  • >> IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE ALSO THINK IT SOUNDS SMART.

  • >> MY BRITISH FRIENDS, I AM NOT GETTING ON YOU.

  • GOD BLESS YOUR

  • HEART.

  • WE ELECTED DONALD TRUMP, WE HAVE A CASE TO MAKE.

  • YOU

  • MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT SMARTER

  • THAN US.

  • OF COURSE INTELLIGENCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ACCENTS.

  • OF COURSE.

  • ALL I'M SAYING IS DON'T GET ON US, AMERICAN

  • ACTORS, FOR NOT BEING TRAINED IN

  • THE BRITISH THEATER.

  • AND THEN WE WILL HAVE SAMUEL JACKSON LAYOFF YOU GUYS.

  • >>BUT IT IS AMERICAN CASTING DIRECTORS THAT THINK THEATER

  • TRAINED ACTORS FROM BRITAIN ARE

  • BETTER.

  • IT IS NOT BRITISH CASTING AGENTS.

  • >>THAT IS TRUE.

  • THAT KIND OF SNOOTY ATTITUDE WHERE THE THEATER IS THE BEST,

  • NOT BUYING IT.

  • >>DOWN WITH THE THEATER.

  • I'M KIDDING.

  • I LIKE THE THEATER ACTUALLY.

  • >>I PREFER SAMUEL L JACKSON.
