  • A varicocele is an abnormality we find more commonly on the patient's left side. During

  • your scrotal evaluation, while scanning if you see and recognize some ecta-tic vasculature

  • that could represent a varicocele, there's a few things to do. Step 1, is to document

  • the size, the diameter of the structure in 2-D. So here looking at this vessel, I'm gonna

  • freeze the screen, and take a measurement seeing that it is greater than 2 mm. Step

  • 2, is to place color on and the normal response when I ask the patient to valsalva or bear

  • down is gonna be for us to not see increased flow. The valve should shut, and there should

  • be no re-flux. When I ask this patient to bear down, relax. You can see the response

  • and the filling of that vessel. Again bear down. Relax. That's consistent with a varicocele.

  • You wanna document this, in both a still image measurement wise and a video clip.

  • One more time, bear down, and relax.
