  • You know the bad thing about table saws for people who don't have a lot of space

  • and may just be starting out in woodworking?

  • Its that you can get them cheap.

  • It wasn't long after I had gotten into woodworking that I got this Ryobi.

  • It wasn't long after that that I realized I needed this table saw workstation.

  • So I built it.

  • Its been several years and its served me well, but I think its time for a few upgrades.

  • First up, dust collection.

  • I drilled a series of holes underneath the saw

  • and drilled a hole on the back of the workstation to accept my shop vac.

  • but that never worked out all that well, I think there is just some fundamental design

  • flaws with that so,

  • I think I'll just open it up.

  • I'll begin by marking out lines where the table saw sits.

  • Drill some pilot holes for my jigsaw.

  • and make my cuts.

  • A little clean up, and I'm ready to move on.

  • I'll start by removing the existing tops.

  • All right let me think about this for a second, this is going to hurt.

  • I need to know approximately where the blade is going to cum thru the top, for the insert.

  • So I'll measure from the side of the current station to the blade.

  • and then add an inch.

  • and then the same thing for the front and back measurements.

  • and I should have it.

  • Well, that wasn't so hard.

  • Then, drill pilot holes.

  • make my cuts.

  • a little sanding.

  • maybe a little more sanding.

  • ok... a lot more sanding.

  • and I'm ready to mark a piece of stock for the insert.

  • Mark my lines.

  • and its off with the jigsaw.

  • Did I mention a little more sanding.

  • next I'll countersink some holes for some screws.

  • and, wha lah, a nice level table saw insert.

  • Now its time to raise the blade.

  • Now I'm going to lay out for the miter slot.

  • Ok, we are looking good so far.

  • Well, I think I'll leave it their for the day.

  • But their is still a lot to do.

  • Rip fence, outfeed support, redesign some of the storage underneath.

  • Hope you'll join me for that.

  • If you'd like more information about this table saw workstation or any of the upgrades

  • I plan to do to it.

  • You can go to my website at simply easy DIY dot com.

  • I'll put a link in the description.

  • Until then,

  • I'll see ya later.
