  • Today I'm going to talk about How to Pronounce '-ed' in English.

  • Now as you know The past simple tense & past participle of all regular verbs end in "ed".

  • For example

  • In addition, many adjectives are made from the past participle and so end in "ed"

  • You may have noticed that in English, words with an -ed ending are pronounced in one of the following three ways

  • How you pronounce depends on the final sound of the verb in the infinitive form.

  • Here are the rules:

  • Verbs ending in the sounds [t] or [d]

  • Verbs ending in the sounds [t] or [d] will cause the "-ed" ending of a verb to be pronounced as the syllable [ɪd]

  • Be careful! It's the sound that is important, not the letter or spelling.

  • For example: "decide" ends in the letter "e" but the last sound /d/.
