  • especially when you're conversing with Black people.

  • But, you can enjoy learning Ebonics and improve your understanding of Black speech

  • Everyone ready? Let's begin.

  • Today's phrase is: dawg, man, dude, G, homie and also another way of saying it, hoMIE.

  • Now, this word just means friend, just partner, compadre, someone you know.

  • So, let's go to the conversational examples.

  • Two guys waiting to leave a place.

  • Dude! When are we gonna make that move?

  • “G” Don’t worry, It’s going down real soon.

  • Dawg-Dawg-Dawg!!! Just leave it along.

  • That's what I’m saying, I can’t!!! I’m hooked!!!

  • Do you understand?

  • We'll just go through this real quick-like.

  • First conversation, two guys, as mentioned before, were leaving a place.

  • They was hanging out somewhere and then one guy is a little impatient.

  • He's like, "I'm ready to go, man. What are we just sitting around for?"

  • That's why he says, "Yo, when are we gonna move?" meaning, "When are we gonna go?"

  • The other guy says, "Hey, don't worry. We'll be leaving real soon."

  • Simple.

  • Next example, friend says, "Dawg-Dawg-Dawg!!! Just leave it along."

  • It means don't even worry about it. Let is go.

  • Just forgot about whatever is going on right now. Just let it go. Leave it alone.

  • And his friend says, "That's the problem. I can't leave it alone."

  • For some reason he just can't stop doing what he doing.

  • Simple and plain.

  • You got it?

  • Now see, the thing is, you gotta understand, many people misunderstand how to use this word dawg.

  • Dawg is basically when you say, "Hey, what's up DAWG."

  • Dawg means someone you know very well.

  • The same way as G, but G means gangsta, not meaning really a gangster, but he means he's hardcore.

  • Man more like just your friend, your boy.

  • Homie, that means someone that you've known for a long time.

  • Now, most guys use these phrases.

  • Homegirl, shorty girl, baby girl, these are also some words that be used by brothers, but sisters also use it as well.

  • My homegirl. You know, my girl.

  • You know, different phrases like that, but mostly dawg, G, they're used by men, not used by women.

  • So, ladies, if you're learning from this, do not go around calling your girlfriend dawg.

  • No, guys use these phrases.

  • If you're talking to your girlfriend, say homegirl or sister, all right?
