  • Hi, Leslie from Discovery Fabrics.

  • Today I'm going to do a quick video on Polartec PowerAire.

  • PowerAire is actually a new technology, came out just maybe two years ago, and why it was invented was to address the problem of microfiber and microplastics shedding into the environment.

  • So Polartec attempted to make a fabric that would not shed as much as other fleeces, but would give you the same degree of warmth.

  • So their answer in PowerAire was to actually take the fleece particles and encapsulate them inside these little pillows.

  • This is the back of the fabric where you see this quilted look, and the air is actually trapped inside of these little pillows, and that creates warmth because every time that you trap air that creates a level of insulation against the body.

  • So even though these fabrics are relatively thin, they have actually a warmth factor very similar to a traditional 200 weight fleece, which is quite snuggly.

  • In addition to that, the surface of the fabric or the face of the fabric that everyone will see is very pill resistant, and it doesn't have a lot of friction so that when you're trying to layer another garment on top of it, you're not going to get that drag, and that makes it really nice for layering.

  • So Polartec PowerAire is probably one of the nicest fabrics that I've As far as fleeces, what I'm wearing is made from PowerAire.

  • In this case, I just made a little hoodie, and actually it's lined with Kaido Sante, I believe, that we also sell, just to give it a little bit of design detail.

  • You actually can wear this fabric either way.

  • I know some people will make it with the right side showing, and maybe even put a panel that has the the pocket backing as a detail.

  • So even though it can be worn either way, it does have a right side and a wrong side, this being the right side.

  • We currently have it in three colors.

  • We're going to try to get some more of this because it's such a great fabric.

  • This is called Sedona Sage, this is Heather Charcoal, and of course this is black.

  • So that's Polartec PowerAire.

  • If you have any questions, please feel free to join our group Sew Inspired by Discovery Fabrics, and we're happy to answer all your questions, as always.

  • Thanks for watching!
