Low-rise pants are meant to look cute and on trend, but as a petite woman with short legs already, wearing low-rise can actually work against me because it visually stunts my legs and it can make me look extremely immature, especially for any petite woman who already looks very young for their age.

So if you want to wear this trend but you also want to be taken seriously as an adult, it's really important to know the keys to make this work best for you.

While most think of low-rise as jeans, something like silk trousers and pants can be much more flattering.

This is because they don't dig in anywhere and if you get the right size, then the flowiness just slims the leck much more than a rigid material like denim.

So don't be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to your bottoms.

While I have my normal size, I also really like to loosen the fit by going up a size.

That's going to make more of that low-rise appearance.

The worst thing that you could do with styling low-rise is pairing it with a top that has no definition.

I'm showing a lot of skin with different areas like my neckline and rolling the sleeves, but I also want to define the silhouette at the top of the pants.

So I'm showing just a peak of skin there.

This may not be totally obvious, but it's probably one of the most important design tips, which is to use soft lines and drapes throughout the viewer's eye.

It creates a taller and slimmer illusion and if these pants were just straight across or the shirt wasn't curved at the end or even if the neckline was square, then this look would be more square, which would widen and shorten how I look.

Of course, adding a heel will make me look taller, but this is so important for elongating my proportions and lengthening my leg.

Just by adding a heel, it's going to change my proportions from being more like 50-50 in this outfit to something much more pleasing to the eye.

The Golden Ratio Principle covers this a lot and these boots make the outfit all one color from head to toe, so no one is distracted by what I'm wearing on my feet, which would have anchored me downward.

And as a plus, all-white monochrome is a trend this year, so I'm creating a look that is very trendy, which most people are trying to do if they're going for low-rise.

While I was making this video, I tried a bunch of different low-rise looks and even though I like many of my outfits to look more sporty, it was just way too much for a low-rise look.

So instead, playing with soft femininity made the outfit look wearable and on trend, but more appropriate for looking grown-up and put together.

This bra accompanies the shape of the top and the fabric of the pants very well, so if I would just, you know, happen to show it a little, not even on purpose, it would still look very I think it's very important to match how masculine or feminine you need to be in your outfit to match your personal taste as well as your essence and also your shape.

The jewelry I chose for this look was intended to keep the eye moving and to place emphasis on the neckline.

Petites do very well with anyone having a reason to look upward in their outfit, whether it's through a hat or a necklace or earrings or lipstick, just something like that will do the trick.

And lastly, because this is a low-rise outfit, I also have more real estate on my top half.

So if I wanted to keep the bag smaller, then the strap will be up closer to my chest and that again will draw the eye upwards.

So you don't have to have those huge bags that drag you down or even a clutch would put more emphasis below the waistline, so having a shoulder bag is gonna be just right.

I can't fight that low-rise is back, but it's not the same low-rise that we had in the early 2000s.
