I am an English teacher teaching all of  you guys American English.

And in today's video, I am taking you guys with me to the movies.

and we're going to eat some popcorn inside.

but inside the shopping mall there is a cinema (a movie theater)

but the movie theater is on the very top floor so we have to take the elevator to go upstairs

I am in Newport on the Levee in Newport, Kentucky

So the most popular movie theaters in my area are AMC and also Cinemark.

Those are the two most popular movie theaters,

but AMC movie theater is the closest one to my house so I came here.

But if you asked me which movie theater is better (AMC movie movie theater or Cinemark),

I would say they're pretty similar because they have the same prices

and they both serve the same purpose you go there to watch a movie

Well right now we have to go on the elevator because the box office is on the third floor.

So the box office is the place where you buy your movie ticket.

If you want to watch a movie by yourself or  with friends,

you normally just say: Do you wanna go to the movies?

You can also say: Do you want to go to the cinema?

but normally to sound natural you can just say: Hey, do you want to go to the movies?

and that is the action of leaving your house (leaving your home)

driving to the movie theater and going to watch a movie.

When you go to the movies, you should keep in mind

and know what movie genre you're going to watch.

That just means what type of movie you're going to watch.

Movies can be divided into different genres.

For example, an action movie may involve a car chase or a gunfight.

A horror movie is basically a scary movie

so a loud noise or scary scene might make you jump out of your seat.

Or you might be covering your eyes because you're scared the whole movie.

A sci-fi movie shows us what the future may look like.

A historical film tells us stories about the past,

and a documentary is basically showing us real-life events and people.

A thriller is a film about suspense, excitement, and tension.

And a romance is basically just a movie about love and romantic relationships.

Of course, there are many more movie genres

but those that I listed are just one of the most popular ones

and common ones and right now I do not have my movie ticket

so come along with me, let's enter the movie theater,

buy our ticket at the box office, and go watch our movie.

and I still have to buy my movie ticket (my ticket to watch a movie).

There is no line so I can go ahead and buy my ticket at the box office.

Now if you want to buy a movie ticket ahead of time so you make sure the movie isn't sold out,

you can buy your ticket on the app (on the AMC app)

and you can just click the movie and then you can check all the different times the movie is playing

and then once you pick your time you can go ahead and click 9:00 p.m.

So we're going to do the same thing over there

because I'm going to buy my movie ticket over there at the box office.

But, you can pick out your ticket on the app and select it and then purchase it.

I already know what movie I will watch and I'm going to show you guys later,

but inside the movie theater you can actually pick what type of movie theater you want to watch your movie in.

So there are four different types of movie theaters inside AMC movie theater.

There's the Dolby which is basically like  the premium movie theater

where you have reclined seats, you have a more comfortable experience,

and then you have the IMAX movie theater which is pretty similar to the Dolby movie theater

Which is basically where you get a  pair of plastic glasses

and you see everything on the screen and images will be jumping out all  around you

and then the cheapest movie theater is the 2D.

The theater is nice, but the screen is  smaller, and the sound is average.

Right now I'm in front of the ticket machine.

I'm at the box office where I will buy my movie ticket.

and then if you bought tickets beforehand you can pick up your tickets

but since I haven't bought any tickets I will purchase tickets

and then on this screen you can see which movies are playing today

so you can see different comedy movies, movies for kids,

dramatic movies, but I'm going to watch  Hunger Games.

So I told you guys before that there are many different types of movie theaters (the  Dolby and the regular 2D),

but I'm going to watch The Hunger Games at the Dolby Theater at 7:20 p.m..

This movie ticket costs $17 whereas the 2D ticket costs $12.

And if you're a movie member, you can punch in your account number

and earn points every time you watch a movie

but right now I am not a member so I'm just going to continue as guest

and then the screen says how many tickets

Also, the movie starts at 7:20 p.m. and this screen lets me know that it ends at 10:00 p.m..

This movie is really long it's around 3  hours.

Also, right now it's 5:50 p.m. and I'm  right on time for this movie that's starts at 7:20 p.m.

but normally a movie does not start exactly  at 7:20 p.m.

Normally they have advertisements for other movies that will play during that time

These advertisements are called trailers.

It's a preview  of a film and it shows off the best parts of a movie before it comes out.
