Is Magic a Legit Academic Subject? The University of Exeter will launch  

a new Master's Degree program on Magic and the  Occult in 2024. This will be one of the first  

Advanced passive voice

of its kind in the UK, and has been created in  response to a growing interest in these subjects. 

The program will be interdisciplinary, drawing  on academics from a range of fields, including  

history, literature, philosophy, archaeology,  sociology, psychology, drama, and religion. 

Students will learn about the history and  impact of witchcraft and magic around the  

world on society and science. There are valid arguments  

both for and against this degree. Some people argue that it is a waste of time  

and resources to study magic and the occult, while  others believe that it could be seen as endorsing  

or legitimizing harmful or superstitious beliefs. However, the University of Exeter is a highly  

respected academic institution, and it  is unlikely that they would offer such  

a program if they did not believe that  it was rigorous and academically sound. 

The degree is not designed to train  people to become magicians or witches. 

Rather, it is designed to provide students with a  scholarly understanding of magic and the occult.
