  • How to hear god's voice? According to The  Absorption Hypothesis? The Absorption Hypothesis

  • is a theory about how people experience God in  evangelical Christianity. It states that people

  • who are more prone to absorption, or the ability  to become deeply engrossed in their thoughts

  • and feelings, are more likely to have intense  spiritual experiences. This theory was proposed

  • by T.M. Luhrmann, an American anthropologist known  for her studies of modern-day witches, charismatic

  • Christians, and psychiatrists. Luhrmann's research  found that people who were more absorbed were more

  • likely to report having vivid mental images, a  heightened sense of focus, and unusual spiritual

  • experiences, such as feeling the presence of God  or hearing God's voice. She also found that the

  • more people prayed, the more likely they were to  have these experiences. The Absorption Hypothesis

  • posits that enhancing attentional focus and  immersion in thoughts can foster intense spiritual

  • experiences, whose interpretation is significantly  influenced by individual spirituality and faith.
