  • right, these incredible characters have all  been played on the big screen by Johnny Depp,  

  • one of America's most beloved  actors of the last four decades.

  • John Christopher Depp II, named after  his father, was born on June 9th, 1963,  

  • to American parents and moved around  the country a lot as a child. His family  

  • finally settled in Florida when he was 7 years old  and he is known to have had a troubled childhood,  

  • as his parents divorced in 1978 and he was  physically and mentally abused by his mother.

  • Depp dropped out of high school at 16  with dreams of becoming a rock musician.  

  • He was (and still is) a big guitar fan; he joined  his first band, 'The Kids', in 1980 and left for  

  • California with the group in 1983, carrying  huge hopes of making it in the music industry.  

  • Once he arrived there, he was introduced toand became great friends with, Nicolas Cage  

  • (Yes, THE Nicolas Cage) who encouraged  him to try out some acting roles.

  • Though initially, he was not so keen, he  soon found that acting helped keep him  

  • afloat financially. He made his movie  debut in Wes Craven's 'A Nightmare on  

  • Elm Street' in 1984 at just 21 years old. His  big break, though, came three years later when  

  • he starred in the US TV drama, '21 Jump Street'.  Depp quickly became the new TV heartthrob for  

  • the next three years with the series, but always  felt he was worth much more than just eye candy!

  • Following this, the movie offers started  flowing in and Depp went on to become one  

  • of the world's biggest film stars and one  of the highest-paid actors in show business.  

  • Known for his choice of eclectic characters,  

  • he collaborated on 8 movies where Tim Burton was  the director, and the pair became great friends.

  • Perhaps Depp's biggest and most famous roleCaptain Jack Sparrow in the Walt Disney series,  

  • 'Pirates of the Caribbean' continued  over 14 years from 2003-2017.

  • Amidst all his acting, Depp also founded his own  film production company, co-owned a nightclub in  

  • Los Angeles, a restaurant in Paris, and formed  a rock group, 'Hollywood Vampires' with legends  

  • Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. He has two children  from a long-term relationship with French  

  • singer/actress, Vanessa Paradis, though they  never married. He has been married twice, but both  

  • lasted only two years each, and his most recent  to actress, Amber Heard, landed him in court,  

  • where he was accused of domestic assault and he  counter-acted by suing for defamation. Though it  

  • is public knowledge that Depp has suffered with  addiction and alcoholism for most of his life,  

  • his fans stand resolutely by himis there still  one last movie in him for that Oscar challenge?
