  • Our family loves conveyor belt sushi,

  • So today we are trying out a new one for us, it's called Sushiro

  • So come along and let's see if we like it

  • [Life in Japan Theme Song]

  • We love Japan's conveyor-belt sushi restaurants, or kaiten sushi.

  • We have to wait for our number to show up.

  • 134

  • 126, we have a little ways...

  • Today we're trying one of Japan's most famous chains for the very first time.

  • Once our number was called, we scanned in and got our table number.

  • Everything in the restaurant is automated,

  • and from beginning to finish, we didn't interact with any staff. That's impressive.

  • Here we gooh Becca goes right in!

  • Oh, and Joshua also! Ooo, it looks good already, huh guys?

  • This one you can grab your food off the conveyor belt or you can order on the iPad.

  • OK- oh, there's English!

  • That's nice.

  • "We are now changing the language environment to English."

  • Look at that French fry! Oh!

  • Wow- chicken nuggets? Oh yes.

  • Let's try one of both. Or maybe two of both.

  • The way you can order or just eat what passes by is truly fun and unique.

  • Salmon with cheese, let's try one.

  • Joshua's just digging in!

  • And Becca!

  • Hey Sarah, can you pray for us?

  • Me? Pray? Yes! Yes!

  • OK ready?

  • Dear Jesus, thank you for this wonderful day and for this wonderful food

  • and help this Sushiro to be really yummy, in Jesus name.

  • Amen!

  • How it compare, Becca?

  • But right from the start, we were concerned we had made a seriously blunder.

  • No no no no, not yet Sarah!

  • That's people's stuff!

  • Oh! I wonder if you guys got people's stuff?!

  • Did you grab people's stuff?

  • See, it's special order!

  • I don't think I grabbed the special order.

  • Welp, good thing it wasn't me!

  • So we're a little concerned...

  • All of the sushi comes out on this conveyor belt,

  • But the special orders for our table also come out on this conveyor belt

  • So we have to watch and look for when our orders come, and then get them.

  • You really have to pay attention.

  • Tuna rolls for Joshua and Anna.

  • Fortunately, we didn't grab anyone else's sushi, and it clearly announces when your sushi is about to arrive.

  • Your order is coming.

  • That's how we know. There it is right there!

  • That's daddy's!

  • Right there- get it Becca!

  • At this point we almost made another blunder by grabbing the wrong special order,

  • but fortunately for us our Becca reads better Kanji than we do yet!

  • Oh! You're right!

  • So look- ours are the yellow colors that come on these trays.

  • And with that, it was finally time to try some sushi.

  • Daddy's going to try the cheese and salmon.

  • Oh, there comes mommy's.

  • Whoa! Look at that! Whoa!

  • Can I have chopsticks, please? Chopsticks!

  • A little bit of soy sauce

  • Mommy's going to try hers and Daddy's going to try his.

  • Oh uh, fumble over there!

  • Yummy?

  • This is everything you want from cheese and salmon right here.

  • When the next order came, we knew exactly what to do.

  • Ah, here comes the chicken nuggets.

  • Oh baby!

  • Yes!

  • One of our favorite things. Bring it, Sarah.

  • She had to take her portion of the proceeds.

  • I guess.

  • These are some of our favorite — the fries, the karage

  • It might be a sushi restaurant, but boy is it good, huh?

  • It's not "Karage" it's "Karaage"

  • That's right.

  • After my Japanese was corrected, it was time to try something new.

  • Would you like to try salmon basil with and a chunk of mozzarella?

  • Oh! Um hum!

  • Whoa! It's a little more expensive.

  • Anna, your sushi rolls.

  • Sarah's on delivery duty- good job!

  • Now Anna can eat!

  • One of them's for him.

  • She's getting ready.

  • Giving it a try...

  • The verdict. What is the verdict?

  • Whoa! It's for Daddy to try- ah!

  • That's a French fry! Oh my!

  • So Anna?

  • This is like crunchy!

  • It's crunchy?!

  • It's hard to eat. It's big chunks.

  • Most prefer big chunks and crunchy seaweed, but Anna does not.

  • Joshua doesn't seem to mind.

  • How's the tuna roll, Dude?

  • Good?

  • Whoa momma chan!

  • So how's the shrimp there?

  • Oh, good! Good?

  • Look at this! This is called a French fry!

  • But this is crazy! It's like the whole potato was curled.

  • Can I try?

  • That's pretty good! Ah!

  • It's Daddy's. Sarah!

  • Sarah's approach to new food is quite unique.

  • You smell it...

  • You look at it...

  • Then you tease it...

  • Then you bite it.

  • How is it Sarah? Good.

  • Oh, that's ours. That's daddy's!

  • Mozzarella, basil and salmon!

  • Oh my goodness!

  • Oh yum yum yum yum yum!

  • That's a red one. Yea.

  • Look at that!

  • Big French fry on a stick, what do you think?

  • Good.

  • It's good, huh?

  • But it's hard to eat.

  • Oh, and Momma chan got another... is that avacado, onion and shrimp?

  • Whoa!

  • Whoa, it falls apart.

  • I'm going to try the mozzarella and basil salmon.

  • That's really good!

  • This thing dings all the time!

  • This mozzarella basil salmon sushi is outstanding. I'm getting more!

  • Becca, did you eat all of those plates of food by yourself?

  • Yeah.

  • Look at how much she's eaten!

  • She just goes and hammers it down!

  • Kaiten sushi is perfect for our family because it's inexpensive, quick and tasty.

  • For our large family, those are all important things.

  • Some families even make a game of how many plates they can stack up.

  • At Kurazushi you win a chance at a prize for every 5 plates you stack up.

  • Our family has no problem collecting plates.

  • Oh! One for Daddy, one for Mommy.

  • It's good, but it needs a little salt.

  • But it's really good. That mozzarella is good.

  • And what is this here? Avocado... Shrimp and tartar sauce.

  • Wow! Some good stuff here!

  • OK Rebecca, honestly, how did you like this place?

  • Good.

  • It's good. I just really like salmon, that's why.

  • I see, it's good salmon though. How about you Sarah?

  • What was your favorite here?

  • French fries.

  • The French fries!

  • Joshua, I saw you had a bunch of things...

  • He had salmon, he had sushi roll,

  • And lots of French fries and Karaage.

  • Wow Dude, where'd it all go?

  • Did Pikachu eat it all?

  • Yeah.

  • How about you Momma chan? What was your favorite?

  • The shrimp with avocado and onion I just love

  • And the shrimp with avocado and tartar sauce was very good too.

  • Wow.

  • And the shrimp tempura. Wow!

  • Although it was a little greasier than my other place.

  • A little greasier, isn't it? I think so.

  • And this right here was my favorite.

  • Oh! New favorite.

  • What here was your favorite that you had?

  • French fries and water.

  • That crazy-curly French fry or the normal ones?

  • The normal ones.

  • OK, everyone smile, I'm going to take a selfie.

  • Oh, selfie time!

  • So the plates have meanings, don't they?

  • The colors have meanings

  • They're different colors, they're different prices.

  • The yellow is? ¥130

  • The red is ¥190 and the black is ¥370

  • Well we have lots of yellow and lots of red here,

  • And Becca has a stack of yellow

  • So now Momma chan is organizing all the plates

  • We are going to see just what kind of damage we did here.

  • America has fast food, but Japan has Kaiten Sushi Restaurants.

  • Who's good at math? Me!

  • Alright.

  • 130 times 15

  • 190 times 8

  • That's 3470

  • ¥4613

  • That's not too bad for all of us.

  • Having filled our stomachs with sushi,

  • we paid at the door without emptying our wallets and were on our way.

  • So the big question is how does it compare to our current favorite, which is Kurazushi?

  • Well, for me I think the sushi was better,

  • The karaage was definitely better, the fries maybe not as good.

  • At Kurazushi, everything comes out on a separate conveyor belt just for you when you're ordering something,

  • So that's really cool You don't have to pay attention.

  • You don't have to pay attention

  • And also you have the amazing game that you can play

  • Where you can put your old dishes into that slot

  • And when you put 5 dishes in you get to play the game and maybe win a prize.

  • That is also really cool.

  • Life in Japan, they want to know... What?

  • How did you like this like compared to Kurazushi?

  • Good.

  • If you could choose between this a Kurazushi, where would you go?

  • Kurazsuhi. Oh yea? Why's that?

  • Because... It's closer

  • It's kind of closer and when the computer makes a noise,

  • Like in the middle when you're eating,

  • You got to put your chopsticks down, you have to get the bowl

  • So that's really a constant bother

  • Yea, you had to get it, didn't you?

  • What about you Becca? Kurazushi.

  • Kurazushi, why?

  • Because like the video (game),

  • And the conveyor belt you can get anything from there and there's tons of options

  • And that when you order it, you don't need to be looking, it just comes and you get it.

  • I see.

  • If you could go to here or Kurazushi, where would you go?

  • Here. Here?

  • Oh, what did you like about here?

  • It says when your food is coming, it's really cool

  • You don't need to wait too muchthe game and stuff — because it's really boring just waiting.

  • So you like that you don't have to play the game, huh?

  • Yea. You don't have to play the game at the other place

  • Anna is the one who least likes sushi in our family,

  • So Anna, if you had to choose between this and Kurazushi... Kurazushi.

  • Oh, why's that?

  • Because I don't like the sushi here.

  • She only eats sushi rolls... And the sushi rollsnot good

  • And you didn't like them as much as Kurazushi.

  • Alright.

  • Momma chan - how about you?

  • I like this place. I thought it was pretty good.

  • I didn't care to have to pay attention when my food was coming because we start talking and get distracted.

  • The food itself tasted very good

  • But it's a little pricier than Kurazushi so maybe the quality is better?

  • I think Kurazushi also went up in price though too.

  • Oh maybe, we haven't been there in awhile.

  • We'll have to go to Kurazushi again now and compare.

  • That's right.
