  • Mr. Oikawa nice to meet you

  • There are a lot of figurines -Of course I make a lot of them

  • So many lined up -Do you know any of them?

  • I don't know some, but I know most of them

  • Perhaps Rem? -I think everybody knows Rem

  • It's not the cutes girls we do. We do men figurines as well as monsters as well

  • As a company, the girls figurines are.. -The most sold?

  • We have a strong image there

  • I wonder how you make it -Recently we have this thing called 3D modeling

  • So it's based on computers. In the past it was hand made

  • Yes, like a craftsman

  • Now it's digital technology -You use a 3D printer and adjust a little?

  • No no, the 3D printer is perfect now

  • Do you add color? -We do, but that has also evolved

  • and does the coloring as well -Amazing

  • That is this

  • This one, only done by machine? -This is all printing

  • You just add the data in? -Yes, we put it in 3D and just print it out

  • It's a bit pale color, but some people like it as it is

  • Is it different when humans make it and machine makes it?

  • When it comes to the digital it looks a little bland or maybe too stiff looking

  • When humans do it, it becomes asymmetric, which makes it soft looking

  • The non-perfect look gives the warm look?

  • Let's say for Kankore, the machine part is really hard for humans

  • the strength is we can send to our clients with data

  • Now the modelers can go on trip

  • What do you mean?

  • Handcraft is just continuous work -so they can't go anywhere?

  • Now they can go abroad and do this wherever they want

  • It's a great time when you can relax at the beach and send the work from the guesthouse

  • Did you go traveling? -Yes I did

  • This was done on that big 3D printer over there

  • This is also 3D printer? -Yes

  • There are different types. The orange ones here are the simple type just to check the shape

  • This is for the test, this is the main production

  • This is like the futuristic looking printer

  • I never thought how it is made but you can send it to printer

  • Which character? -This is our original

  • Our company does copyrighted figurines but also our own -Whatever you like?

  • We sometimes collaborate with other artists

  • You also have those pictures as well

  • This is your original? -Yes, this one on this side is original

  • While making figurines, we also make our goods like this tapestry

  • Oh right. You already have those drawings

  • We do this, and we decide to make this

  • Figurines are expensive so for those who can't afford them, we provide these

  • We have them enjoy this

  • So there are figurines for this? -Yes

  • I want to see it

  • So detailed. Is this your original?

  • These is an original artist, but we borrowed the look and only the costume is our original

  • This is so cute

  • This was colored by the printer? -This was not possible

  • In the printer, we change the material during the process. That's when we color

  • How much is the retail price? -IF sold, it'll be around 30,000 yen

  • It's so hard to create -Yes

  • It could probably take about 6months -6 months to create this?

  • From design to product. Of course we don't make this alone but we do it simultaneously

  • I'll show you what the PC side of creating this looks like -I want to see

  • Ok let's go take a look

  • We just saw this right before -Yes, the girl over there we see it here in 3D

  • It looks a little different in 3D. It's like a sculpture

  • You can show the face only -Oh you can change

  • I just changed the eyes. If you want to move them,

  • The design of the texture is unique to digital. It looks sharp when you zoom in

  • but with 3D printer, you can't have as much detail yet

  • I heard at Eldoramodel you are doing something unique

  • Last year we gathered many original illustrators

  • We did a competition

  • Your dream comes true

  • So what this is, is that illustrators are interested in 3D

  • They want their drawings in 3D. And Eldoramodel wanted to make that dream come true

  • So the figurine artists and the illustrators combine their skills and create something new. It's like a dream project

  • A win-win? -Yes, both sides make what they want. And the winner is this

  • This one? -Yes

  • This one is hanging -Yes, it is

  • We're doing part 2, so if you people abroad want to join, come and join to make your drawings come true

  • Part 1 was Japan only? -No, we did have people abroad but we didn't advertise as much

  • So if you watch this video and want to join the competition... -I'm sure there are

  • I hope people join

  • So many figurines. How do you get them?

  • We do some e-commerce and you can buy them online but,

  • they needed to be painted by yourself. So-called garage kit, GK

  • so you have to color it yourself like a sculpture. It doesn't have to be full color but maybe only one. Line it up in your entrance hall

  • Or we do have them at big festivals like the Wonder Festival

  • At Eldoramodel we are thinking of selling the full color version -That is helpful

  • For clumsy person like me, that's helpful

  • One sample of the full color version is this

  • So we might get this next year -Yes

  • Do you have any new characters in mind?

  • In Japan we have the Japanese zodiacs, and we have a project of making a character out of it

  • That is one -Which animal is that?

  • Well, it's actually wearing a cow uniform

  • There is a cat in a cow

  • It's a character wearing a cow uniform but we don't have the tapestry now

  • So this is the naked version? -Yes, it's the version not wearing the costume

  • Next is the tiger. Now we are making the tiger version

  • We are thinking of doing it every year. We have original illustrators drawing this

  • We have original settings and poses

  • We want to have 12 of them? -We have to continue 12 years

Mr. Oikawa nice to meet you
