Thank you
[Music]
Good morning! It's a snow day - first snow
day of the season! I'm here with Sarah
and Alex and Jordan and we're here for
work in Aomori Prefecture today. All
of a sudden it just started snowing a
lot! It's a blizzard outside. It's so
windy, pray for my little vlogging camera
outside in the snow. We'll see how it
goes. But I want to bring you guys along
because it's super exciting to finally
see some snow this year! Here we go, going
outside
[Music]
Oh okay it's not too bad
It's not as windy as it was earlier
which is wonderful
It's so crunchy
[Music]
Probably should have worn boots
beanie gang beanie gang
toque we call this a toque in Canada!
Oh really? Do you know that word? No. "Toque"
Thought it was like a face mask or
something
Are these little moss gardens?
I love them
They're so cute
[Music]
I wonder how easy they would be to take
care of
How cute would that be if you put like a
little
totoro
gatcha or something in it? Oh so cute.
So we're at Oirase... oh there's snow on my
lens
We're at Oirase Gorge right now, which
I've only ever been to in the summer and
the fall. This will be my first time
seeing it in the snow.
Apple juice
Sharla: So, Aomori is famous for their apples. You'll see tons of apple souvenirs while I'm here.
Sharla: But I always love grabbing some of their pure apple juice. It's so delicious.
Sharla: How good do these donuts look?
Sharla: What is that?
[speaking Japanese]
Jordan: It's this.
Sharla: Oh my God, oh, it's a little apple. What do you do with it?
Jordan: You just- Sharla: You just eat it?
Jordan: Just hold it. Sharla: You just hold it?
[laughing]
Sharla: That doesn't sound fun.
Sharla: It says you can eat it like sherbert.
Sarah: Should we get one of those as well?
[speaking Japanese]
Sharla: This is apple tea. Apple Hōjicha. Roasted tea.
I didn't expect it to be sweet, but it smells like caramel.
Oh my God, smell that.
Sharla: Still waiting for the tea to cool down. Can't drink it yet.
Sharla: Why is it so hot? It smells great though.
We're down at the Gorge now. This is the
place that I've come to so many times in
the summer and in the fall
but look at it in the snow.
The trees in the background are so pretty.
Sharla: Jordan's having so much fun. Jordan: I'm having a good time!
Sharla: He loves the snow.
Jordan: The snow is attacking my hair and I'm taking it personally.
Sharla: Sarah seems to think that licking icicles is a thing.
icicles is a thing
She's determined.
I can't?
no.
no.
It's a national heritage.
just lick it on the rock.
So can I- can I lick it on the rock?
no....
oh your tongue will get stuck
no...
and it will be very funny
no..noo...
we're at the famous waterfall of oyadase
gorge it's called kumori notaki
definitely took some photos here before
in the summer in the winter apparently
it almost completely freezes over and
looks really cool but i think this is
the first snow of the year so it's not
completely frozen yet but still looks
pretty epic
Sarah got an icicle
*Sarah softly crying in joy*
She finally got her icicle :')
Is it as amazing as you thought it would be?
It's so dirty!
*Sarah and Sharla laughing*
oh just gross
*more laughter*
Yay~~
*Sharla singing* Lunch time! Lunch time! :D
We've come to a, uh,
local restaurant that's right on the
lake so there's a really good view of
the lake outside but it's just
this big storm at the moment
the waves are wild for a lake it looks
like an ocean
but we're nice and cozy inside and we're
going to be having some nabe
i have a tofu vegetable nabe a bowl of
rice salad and some pickled veggies and
tofu it's a really good lunch
Wait do me a favour,
can you eat that green thing tell me what it is?
The green thing, isn't it a green bean?
Is it a green bean, and like, miso?
with goma-ae
probably
we are about to go exploring inside
Towada shrine, which looks SO beautiful
in the snow i feel so lucky that it
snowed today it just looks absolutely
gorgeous with the cedar trees and we got
some amazake which is my favorite winter
drink they only have this in the winter
season because it's a it's a warm cozy
drink it's kind of like the hot
chocolate of japan when it starts to get
cold they sell this at the shrines and
it's just absolutely delicious and it's
probably
relatively healthy for you it's made
from fermented rice it is a little sweet
so they probably do add a bit of sugar
to it but i do recommend you try it out
if you come to japan
but yeah let's go exploring into the
shrine it looks so pretty
*music*
so at night time they're gonna light
this up and we'll be we'll be back here
at night but it's really pretty in the
daytime as well because you can see all
the huge cedar trees
*music*
*chatter and laughter*
I like it!!
It's a fig tree!
That'll be pretty tonight
Right?!
um also this was under renovation last time I came
This looks so cool in the snow!
So yesterday we came here with a guy,
and he told us an interesting fact about this tree,
that's uh it's made out of plastic
*laughs*
can you believe this guy??
he ruins everything
*laughing*
you get out of here sir!
look at this!
ah cool!
this is so nice!
so earlier when i was getting amazake
there were these cute little footprints
on the ground i thought they were cat
footprints and then i looked closer at
them
there were too many toes to be a cat
so i looked it up and apparently it's
probably an amaguma i don't even know
what that is in english
but they're pretty wild looking i've
never seen one before
i was talking to the locals in the shop
and they said there are quite a few of
them around here
so maybe we'll get lucky and spot one
that would be so cool
*music*
*music*
Are you ready for the grand finale of our Towada trip?
We are headed to.. festival....?
Festival Luce!
*laugh*
it's a light up of the shrine that we
we were just in, it looks so colourful and pretty!
wow~~~
*music*
don't walk that way!
puddle :)
*music*
this music's intense
*loud intense music*
it's like there's a good challenge coming up
yeah right?!
wow
so you've come this way? Stop who goes?!
*laughter*
*music*
look they have a light up of the footprints i found earlier
still haven't found the animal yet
maybe there's one down here
*music*
alright!
weeeee!
*music*
I love this sort of thing
wow!!!
it's so... *at a loss for words*
wow the music's just like
*laughter*
we're heading up to the very top now
to see what they've done with the shrine
should be pretty :D
*music*
oh....
avengers?
*music intensifies*
*music*
oh that's cool
so, I think the projection mapping tells a story of.....
how the- how the shrine was made like
the birth of like the area
does it?
yeah so
the tour guide was yesterday so it's
going to be like a big battle between
is that a dragon?
yeah like a, yeah! It's like a dragon
a good god an evil god it's a big battle
and it like
they're showing the effects of it in
like the uh
in the mapping
it's very interesting but
the thing is like the start of it the
gates opening and such but there's lots
of like water elements to it because
obviously water dragon god thing
right
all right guys that's it i'm gonna wrap up
and go back to my hotel
and have a nice warm bath and thaw out my fingers
they are so cold i hope you guys enjoyed
spending the day in Aomori with us and
I'll see you again very soon
bye for now!
