  • So this is what happens when your kid gets sick in Japan

  • [Intro Music]

  • So this video is a little bit unexpected

  • It just kind of has to happen we have to push things back

  • Basically Wolfy is sick today

  • He has a slight fever

  • He had a 38 degree temperature all throughout the night

  • He is at like 37.8 this morning

  • so we couldn't take him to the nursery

  • So I pretty much need to take a day off

  • Maiko and I are pretty tight on our production schedule

  • As you guys probably noticed we do a lot of collaborations

  • once something like this happens

  • we really can't hold to the schedule because it just throws

  • everything off even one day kind of

  • pushes everything back one week

  • So instead of having a regularly scheduled video

  • You're going to be kind of hanging out with me and Wolfy

  • and his sick day here in Japan

  • And like always if you

  • guys want to see what I'm doing on the daily

  • check out my Instagram account

  • If you guys want to help support the channel

  • check out the Tokyo merch

  • and if you guys have any questions about

  • Japan or Japan travels

  • check out my Discord Community

  • There you go and

  • Oh you want you want to sit here ?

  • You want this one ?

  • Okay

  • how you feeling ?

  • What's that ? Is that sausage ?

  • Are you having fun ?

  • Are you wiping your face with mommy's sweater ?

  • Wolfy

  • So Wolfy usually eats a snack at around 9am at the nursery

  • It's a bit past that

  • But we decided to feed him anyway

  • You know when kids are sick you're just

  • happy that they're eating any time of the day

  • That's good ?

  • Yeah

  • We love Wolfy so much and

  • cherish all of these moments we get to

  • spend with him especially since we're

  • both working parents

  • we're completely aware that we're not gonna get this time back

  • so when we do get a chance to take time off

  • we wanna spend it with him when

  • he's happy and healthy

  • so we can all go out together

  • But what can you do in these type of situations

  • Oh

  • Wolfy : Oh !

  • It's a little too much

  • You gona help me get some ice ?

  • Wolfy : Yeah

  • Oh and this is one of our weekend routines

  • Wolfy loves to help me make my morning shake

  • Knowing that he could barely walk just a little bit ago

  • Its crazy to watch him carry the step stool all by himself now

  • [ clock ticking sound ]

  • Obviously it takes a little bit more

  • time for him to do things

  • But we think it's important to let him get involved

  • in as many activities as possible

  • Plus it's just super cute

  • Wolfy : Mama

  • Wolfy : No ?

  • Oh no !

  • I need to get the nutritional yeast over down there

  • Wolfy: Oh no !

  • I need two tablespoons of that one

  • Can I give him this ? He already had one though

  • Maiko : You wan't it ?

  • Wolfy : Yeah

  • Just a little bit ago

  • We had to take an entire week off of work

  • since Wolfy shared a room with a nursery teacher

  • who caught COVID

  • Luckily Wolfy didn't catch it himself

  • But the nursery was forced to

  • shut down services for a week

  • at that time

  • we were about one week ahead of our production schedule

  • but that week off with Wolfy

  • brought our schedule back to zero

  • wow you gotta open it first

  • What many people may not completely understand

  • is that many of the videos we create these days

  • take several weeks if not months to come together

  • so even uploading one video a week

  • is a large undertaking for us

  • You want more ?

  • Are you eating my chicken ?

  • Just like this last week or so

  • he's been really

  • clingy with daddy

  • I'm not quite sure why

  • I'll open it

  • So it's gone up just this last couple of hours

  • So I think we might need to take him to the doctor

  • Wolfy : Daddy !!

  • and of course he spills the juice

  • Not sure how it is in other countries

  • But Japanese nurseries don't accept kids

  • with a temperature above 37.5 degrees celsius

  • 99.5 degrees fahrenheit

  • and since COVID they're even more strict with this policy

  • parents are asked to take their kids temperature at home

  • before sending them to nursery

  • and then when they arrive the teachers will take

  • their temperature again before they're allowed in

  • these days many nurseries and schools in Japan

  • are calmly having to temporarily shut down

  • because either the teacher or one of the

  • students tests positive

  • so it's no surprise that schools are extra careful

  • I think its fine

  • You want your shoes ?

  • Wolfy : Yeah

  • Wolfy : No

  • Okay ready and let's go

  • [Music]

  • Okay so it's right before lunch

  • But his fever is starting to go up a little bit

  • so we decided to take him to the doctor

  • to make sure he's okay

  • and gets some medicine in case it gets worse in the afternoon

  • [Music]

  • In Japan kids medical fees including

  • prescription medicines are all free

  • covered under basic insurance

  • It's quite common in Japan to take it to the doctor often

  • In fact medical fees for adults

  • are relatively inexpensive as well

  • really good job my dude

  • so many adults will go to the doctor regularly

  • even for the common cold

  • Just ask Maiko

  • okay so that went a little bit unexpected

  • basically I thought I was gonna go in

  • and just get him some medicine for his fever

  • maybe some throat medicine but

  • The doctor actually recommended that we

  • get a PCR Kensa or a PCR test

  • Yeah I don't think Wolfy was really expecting that

  • and whatever you call it little

  • stick inside of his nose really hard

  • He didn't enjoy that too much so it's a

  • little bit hard getting him out of there

  • yeah we'll get the results in a couple days

  • so we'll see

  • Maiko : Are you okay ?

  • Yeah so

  • Basically um since he had a fever

  • we had to get a PCR Kensa

  • Oh really ?

  • For well he didn't have to

  • Can we check your temperature ?

  • no

  • no

  • We can't check your temperature ?

  • Let's take your temperature real quick okay ?

  • Today Maiko made a rice porridge with green onions for Wolfy

  • But it doesn't look like he has an appetite at the moment

  • Eating only four to five bites

  • It always breaks her heart when he struggles like this

  • hopefully a good nap will help him recover

  • All right so

  • There you go Wolfy is asleep

  • that was a

  • lot easier than normal I wasn't

  • expecting it to be that easy usually it

  • takes him a little bit longer but I

  • think he's just so tired we did get him

  • to bed a little bit later than normal

  • He should be sleeping for about an hour and

  • a half two hours so we do have a little

  • bit of time to kill but you never know

  • he might wake up really really quickly

  • It's been a long day for him already

  • It's been a long day for me already

  • I'm sure Maiko as well

  • So while he's sleeping I'm gonna go

  • pick up this medicine at the pharmacy

  • I dropped off the slip

  • but it takes about 30 minutes for them to fill it

  • so I also have a

  • kind of a video coming up with this food

  • production company and they want me to

  • take a stool test so I gotta go drop

  • that off in the mail and then we should

  • be back hopefully before Wolfy wakes up

  • He didn't eat as much as we wanted him to

  • Just before lunch but he's just super tired

  • so maybe when he wakes up

  • He'll probably be hungry and then

  • we'll continue our day

  • let's do all the rest

  • of this stuff while he's still sleeping

  • and then

  • we'll take care of Wolfy again

  • all right let's go

  • Hey, So

  • I got burrito, I got the medicines

  • We are back it is just a little before two

  • so hot it's starting to get spring-like outside

  • It looks like wolfy still asleep

  • so we have a little time for lunch

  • How is he doing ?

  • I went to check on him his feet are

  • kind of cold so I think his body's

  • temperature is going up still

  • and he was like

  • he just took out the stuff from the back

  • and then but his face like with this

  • area is like burning up

  • It's always worrisome when he gets these fevers

  • and

  • as you can see I've got like no work done whatsoever

  • It's just it's just like

  • super tough when he gets sick you just

  • you really can't do anything because

  • you're pretty much attending to his

  • entire like all of his needs

  • Maiko is gona go check on him

  • Wolfy : Mama

  • Maiko : No ? You don't wana sit here?

  • Good Morning !!

  • Wolfy : Mama, Daddy

  • I can give him the medicine

  • Maiko : Which one ?

  • Wolfy : Apple

  • Since his fever has gone up to 39.0 degrees celsius

  • 102.2 fahrenheit

  • we decided to give him the fever medicine

  • we usually mix it in with his favorite juice and

  • his favorite anpanman cup

  • to help it go down easier

  • good job

  • Wolfy does seem to enjoy sick days though

  • as he doesn't really get to watch TV or play with iPad much

  • but on sick days we make an exception

  • it helps him relax and forget about the pain

  • Also I'm not sure if it happens to other kids

  • but when Wolfy cries a lot

  • he has this kind of gag reflex which makes him more

  • likely to throw up his food

  • even more so when his stomach is unsettled

  • we try to avoid this as much as possible

  • so after waking up looks like Wolfy is

  • still a little bit high on his temperature so

  • I think for the rest of the day we're gonna pretty much just

  • chill and just and make sure that he's

  • not over exhausting himself

  • one thing though we're gonna be stuck inside of

  • this house for a few hours

  • I would love to just like take him outside and take

  • him to the park or do something but

  • probably best for him to stay here

  • should I open it ?

  • Wolfy : Okay

  • Okay

  • hold it there and then put your

  • so ever since Wolfy started nursery

  • he's been getting sick and having fevers a lot more often

  • it's simply because he has

  • more exposure to other kids

  • who are potentially also sick

  • so we're not really surprised these days when he does

  • get sick and are somewhat prepared for

  • his low energy output

  • one time when he had a fever for four days straight

  • he had trouble with just getting up

  • so seeing him with a bit of energy is a slight relief

  • Maiko :Mummy or Daddy ?

  • Wolfy : Daddy !!

  • Maiko : What did you say ?

  • Maiko : Did you say daddy ?

  • Oh just look at Wolfy smile and laugh

  • It makes taking the day off with them

  • all worth it

  • Maiko : Where are you?

  • all right so this is pretty much going

  • to be the rest of the day

  • hopefully Wolfy's fever goes down

  • yeah

  • so sorry I wasn't able to get a video out

  • But I guess this is how it is when

  • your kid gets sick and you just really

  • can't do anything about it

  • I hope you guys enjoyed me sharing this kind of

  • peek into our life but I will be back

  • next week so if you guys want to see

  • anything related to Japan hit that

  • subscribe button and the bell button

  • and we'll catch you guys in the next one
