While this might sound like a turn of phrase, it's literal in the comics, Thanos wants to impress the personification of death by decimating half of life because he loves her.

Although it's unconfirmed if this was the full plan for the films, his newer motivations feel like a red con of his origins and paint him in a different light.

This universe is finite, It's resources finite.

If life is left unchecked, life will cease to exist.

It needs correct.
