  • Hey there it's Jennifer from Tarle  speech with your two for Tuesday!

  • These are homophones. These words  are pronounced exactly the same way,  

  • different spellings and  different meanings. We have  

  • stalk which is a stem and stock which are goods  shares in a business or the liquid base of a soup.

  • To say these words correctly we have four soundsLet's start with the s. sss To do this sound  

  • tip of the tongue is either down towards the  bottom of the mouth, the tip of the tongue,  

  • or behind the top front teethIt's not touching the teeth.  

  • Air is going to continuously  move out of the mouth - sssss.  

  • Then you're going to touch the tip of the tongue  to the back of the top front teeth for that sss t

  • Then we're going to move to that open oh.  

  • Wide open oval mouth, tip of the tongue  is down, back of the tongue is pulled up.

  • And then we're going to end with the k.  

  • Again tip of the tongue is down back of the tongue  is pulled up and the mouth is open. Air puffs out.

  • Let's put it all together: s talk 

  • stock stock stock stalk stalk stalk

  • And now for a sentence:

  • The corn stalk does not make good vegetable stock.
