  • - Hey, guys, it's Chris Appleton, and I'm gonna show you

  • how I like to style my hair for a night out.

  • Let's get into it.

  • (serene music)

  • Okay, guys, so I've just shampooed my hair.

  • I always use the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo.

  • This leaves behind no residues in my hair,

  • which is really important 'cause when that happens,

  • it can lead to hair thinning.

  • This is 100% clean,

  • which always keeps my color nice and bright,

  • which is really important for me.

  • And I know I've got the security

  • of looking after my hair and scalp.

  • To finish with, I always, without doubt,

  • use my Money Hair Masque.

  • This is amazing for rich, expensive-looking hair.

  • Not only does it smell great, it's really light,

  • and obviously my hair is bleached,

  • so it keeps the hair super hydrated

  • and also strengthened as well.

  • So they're always my go-to.

  • So before I blow-dry the hair,

  • this is my kinda secret weapon for blonde.

  • I actually get asked a lot

  • how I keep the blonde kinda ashy 'cause, I guess,

  • naturally it can tend to go a little bit yellowy.

  • And my secret formula is right here.

  • I use the Color Wow Toning mousse,

  • so this is the Color Control foaming mousse,

  • and if you watch this, guys,

  • it's actually lavender colored.

  • So they have one for brunettes,

  • which kind of, you know, keeps brunettes nice and rich.

  • This is a lavender-tinted mousse,

  • which effectively I just put through

  • before I blow-dry my hair.

  • It tones away any brassiness, any yellow tones.

  • It literally neutralizes it.

  • And you can actually see just as I put it on,

  • see how much ashier it makes the color,

  • which for me is amazing,

  • 'cause it's what makes the whole thing look kinda cool.

  • In fact, my pet hate is when my hair looks yellow.

  • So I always like to use this.

  • It's nice and conditioning as well,

  • which is always super important.

  • Okay, so shampoo and conditioner done, styling product.

  • Honestly, especially when my hair is freshly bleached,

  • I do like to add one more product.

  • This is the Kale Cocktail by Color Wow.

  • What I love about this stuff is it's actually just a cream.

  • So I can use a small amount.

  • But this actually strengthens the hair by 50%.

  • With my hair being blonde,

  • I have actually suffered quite a lot with breakage.

  • I've actually had it done a couple times

  • where my whole hair has broken off,

  • and it literally comes off at the scalp.

  • You can see how dark my natural hair is,

  • so to bleach my hair this light,

  • I need all that protein and all that strength I can get.

  • So I'm always about cocktailing products together

  • to keep the hair super strong.

  • And I know a lot of people don't love to use products,

  • but for me, honestly, it's the kind of foundation

  • to keeping your hair strong, keeping it hydrated.

  • And most of my prep is done when my hair is wet.

  • All right, guys, now we're gonna get into drying my hair.

  • So I like to use a small round brush,

  • and I use the Leandro Limited hair dryer.

  • I like this hair dryer 'cause it's nice and light

  • and super powerful.

  • I literally blast most of the water out of my hair

  • blow-drying in a forwards direction,

  • so you wanna kinda blow-dry the hair forwards

  • in this direction.

  • And then I always lift the bangs up,

  • so always try and get some volume throughout the bangs.

  • And that's when I use a little round brush.

  • So I use that at the end

  • just to kinda give it a little bit of a polish,

  • give it that little bit of a kick,

  • and keep that volume in my hair, so let's get into it.

  • (dryer blowing)

  • (calm uplifting music)

  • Now a little tip, when I like to dry my hair,

  • guys, this is perfect for you.

  • I always like to sort of overdirect my hair.

  • So effectively I wear my hair this way,

  • but if I dry my hair this way, it kinda gets quite flat,

  • so I actually dry the opposite direction,

  • so I blow-dry it in this direction

  • because then it gives it more volume,

  • and it gives it a little bit more kind of an undone texture.

  • So tip is to always blow-dry your hair

  • in the opposite direction.

  • (dryer blowing)

  • (calm uplifting music)

  • Okay, guys, so you can see already

  • I've kinda dried the hair to a little bit,

  • it's like 80% dry,

  • and this is probably where I'll pick up the brush.

  • My natural texture is actually really straight,

  • so I actually use a brush just to give it a bit of a bend

  • 'cause I kinda like it when it does this kinda thing,

  • it has a little bit of kinda movement and a bit of texture,

  • just makes the whole thing look cooler.

  • I've been wearing this hairstyle

  • for I guess the last couple of years,

  • it's kinda become symbolic

  • of my like, I guess identity.

  • I've kinda become stuck with it,

  • because everyone's like, "Oh, the guy with the blonde hair,

  • you know the hairdresser guy, the one with the blonde hair."

  • So it's kinda become stuck.

  • It's interesting, when I dye my hair dark,

  • I'm like, walk in, my hair's brown,

  • and I'm like, "Okay, well, a whole new look,"

  • and the response is always very just,

  • "You dyed your hair dark."

  • But this is my favorite time, when it has that root in it.

  • When it has the root, it has a nice contrast,

  • and I think that's when it looks its best.

  • All right, fellows, so when you're blow-drying your hair,

  • or ladies, I always like to literally,

  • I don't even take sections,

  • I just literally get the brush,

  • I let it kinda wrap it around,

  • and I let the hair just kinda pick up on it.

  • And then what you're gonna do is hit it with the hair dryer

  • just to try and pick it up and give it some volume

  • and a little bit of bend.

  • (dryer blowing)

  • (upbeat music)

  • Okay, guys, I've just finished blow-drying the hair.

  • Obviously right now it's huge, it's kinda really big.

  • I never wear my hair this big,

  • but I do blow-dry it first,

  • because it gives you the volume and it kinda lasts all day.

  • This stuff, game changer, the Toning mousse,

  • you can see how great

  • it kinda just takes away any, I guess, yellowness.

  • It's the yellowness that I really don't like.

  • It really neutralizes that brassy tones,

  • and it actually gives my hair some great texture as well.

  • So now we're gonna get into styling,

  • so once you've got the kind of volume in,

  • I then like to use a wax stick.

  • So I kind of like the wax stick because my hair is bleached,

  • so if I use anything too matte,

  • it really kinda just, it doesn't work for me,

  • it gets really dry.

  • So with the wax stick,

  • I usually do four or five kinda swipes down,

  • a couple on the bangs, and then just kinda wrap it

  • around in a circle.

  • I like the wax stick just because I can,

  • I guess, kind of start to manipulate my hair.

  • It kind of almost hydrates it,

  • takes away a bit of the volume,

  • and kinda makes it look a little bit more pliable.

  • But then I like to use another wax over the top.

  • So I use then a little bit more

  • of, this one is more like a mud.

  • It's kind of like a, it's almost like a paste,

  • it's in between a paste and a wax.

  • Anything too oily makes my hair flat,

  • anything too kinda dry and matte just makes my hair

  • look dry because it's got the bleach in it.

  • This is a nice combination.

  • I don't use a lot, kind of a pea-size amount.

  • Literally always rub it

  • throughout the whole palm of my hands.

  • That's really important.

  • And like I said when I was blow-drying it,

  • I like to overdirect my hair,

  • so I'll push everything kind of one way,

  • just pushing it all down,

  • and then I push the bangs the opposite way

  • to start giving it some texture

  • and a little bit of direction.

  • You can see it's already sort of starting

  • to come into place,

  • and the volume still maintains its kind of integrity,

  • but it also has a little bit

  • of that kinda cool lived-in texture,

  • and that's 'cause obviously we blow-dried it.

  • My hair's pretty long at the minute,

  • I kinda like it this length, I think it looks cool.

  • I've tried so many different hairstyles in the past,

  • I've had it shaved,

  • I've had it long.

  • I mean, that was just not even worth talking about.

  • My hair's so thick,

  • it was very kind of Kate Middleton vibes,

  • like luscious hair, I wanted to be like cool surfer,

  • definitely wasn't that.

  • So like I said,

  • I think this has kinda become my signature style.

  • What I like to do is, I love it at this stage

  • when the color's grown out, I think it looks much cooler,

  • but I do have a secret weapon.

  • If ever I've got a red carpet, or if I'm doing something

  • where I just want the color to look a bit brighter,

  • but I don't have time to have the roots done,

  • I use this bad boy.

  • This is the Color Wow platinum powder.

  • So this is a root powder.

  • What I do, this is my little trick.

  • It's kind of a game changer, honestly.

  • I'll load up the brush,

  • just load up the small end of the brush

  • with the powder, and then watch this.

  • I go in there at the front,

  • and you can actually just kind of paint in highlights.

  • So it actually just, I guess, distinguishes the root

  • a little bit so it doesn't look as bad.

  • A lot of people do this with obviously brunettes

  • and gray hair, but not a lot of people know

  • that you can actually brighten up your blonde by doing this.

  • And this has been a game changer for me.

  • See how it instantly kinda connects the color

  • and makes it look like I've got kinda highlights

  • down to the root.

  • It's my little secret weapon, guys.

  • You're welcome.

  • And thank you, Color Wow.

  • What's great about this stuff as well is it's swim-proof

  • and sweat-proof.

  • Obviously I work out and stuff,

  • so I don't like anything that's gonna smudge.

  • There's nothing worse than seeing kind of like guys

  • with black around their hairline

  • where they've colored it and stuff.

  • So I know it's not gonna go anywhere.

  • And I think, guys, that is about it.

  • I usually kinda let it just settle down, do its thing.

  • But yeah, this is pretty much it actually,

  • from the back, the side, and from the front.

  • Thank you for watching me getting ready,

  • and I'll see you guys next time.
