hello and greetings from berlin germany today we're showing you around germany's capital city
it's artsy it's funky it's gritty and yet it manages to have something for every traveler
in this video we'll be taking you on a biking tour across the city where we'll cover a mix
of attractions i think it's going to be a great way to see the city we'll do a beer tasting in
the neighborhood of kreuzberg sampling everything from visa to porter this is my favorite one so far
oh yeah the german ipa wow plus we'll take you on an evening Berlin food tour where we'll try
all sorts of classic german dishes with a few surprises in between a classic berlin dish but
reinterpreted so whether it's your first time visiting berlin or you're coming back for more
we hope this video will give you a few ideas of some fun things to do in berlin germany
the following is our berlin travel guide so let's dive in
all right guys hello hello and greetings from berlin germany we are back we're back in berlin
our last visit was many years ago so it's nice to be back in the city seeing it with fresh eyes
so we thought we would come down to berlin cathedral which you've got
right behind us check out that beauty and also just take a stroll along museum island and you
know we're gonna keep going with the theme of seeing doing and eating as much as we possibly can
absolutely we're bringing you that video we're gonna bring you that one
if you're visiting berlin germany for the first time museum island is a good place to start
this museum complex sits on the spray island in berlin's historic center you have multiple museums
to choose from including the old museum the new museum the old national gallery the boda museum
the pergamon museum and most recently the humboldt forum which we'll show you later in this video
aside from that museum island is also home to the magnificent berlin cathedral if you're feeling up
to it you can climb the 270 steps to the dome's outer walkway for panoramic views of the city
it's also worth mentioning that museum island has pickup points for certain
river cruises down the spray so it's quite a central attraction
and you're likely to end up here at some point during your visit
that evening we had dinner at a restaurant right around the corner from our hotel
freya is the first plant-based zero waste restaurant in berlin germany and it has been
generating a lot of buzz since first opening so we decided to try something new over the course
of dinner we tried braised and poached pear and beetroot coffee adobo marinated carrot polenta
with mushroom and kale ragu and a hazelnut almond ice cream sandwich for dessert we may not be vegan
but we can't appreciate the concept behind this restaurant plus the food was simply exquisite and
at the end of the day that speaks for itself an army of one surrounded by bicycles bicycles that's
what we are doing this morning ah not a clue voila so we are here at berlin on bike and we are going
to be joining a bike tour around berlin germany seeing loads of highlights i believe we're doing
a four hour tour so i think we're going to be covering a lot of the city and i haven't been
biking in a while so this should be an adventure biking in a city i'll tell you what any excuse
i have to be burning off some of the excess calories we've been consuming in the last 10 days
is much needed all the schnitzel oh my goodness i'm getting a schnitzel belly so yeah we're gonna
enjoy going for four hours on the bike and um yeah i think it's gonna be a great way to see the city
yeah we've never explored berlin on bike before it's always been on foot we're taking the esbonda
yuban so this will be the first time to see it by bicycle we're really excited
okay so next stop on our biking tour across berlin germany is a very familiar spot for us this is
mauerpark and when sam and i lived in berlin very briefly our apartment was right around the
corner from here so it's kind of nice to be back this is a super cool spot if you can visit on a
sunday because there's a huge flea market there's also live music there's live karaoke where people
just you know get down in the amphitheater and just sing to their hearts content so it's a very
lively spot um we're not here on a sunday right now so we're just enjoying a bit of a quieter
ride a quieter day and yeah just checking out the street art which as you can see is ever evolving
this is basically a free-for-all it's a canvas that everyone can use
and yeah it's been a super cool ride so far and we're gonna keep going
In terms of things to do in berlin germany
the cool thing about doing a private bike tour is that our guide oleg was really able to customize
the route based on our interests and include a lot of neighborhoods and lesser-known attractions that
we hadn't visited before we also got to visit one of berlin's newest attractions humboldt
forum this has been under construction ever since our very first trip to berlin many years
ago so it was cool to finally see it completed the building combines three rebuilt baroque facades of
berlin's former royal palace and one modern one it houses various museums restaurants and a theater
we didn't have enough time to go in during the bike tour but it was still nice to see in passing
well we dropped off her bike yeah i can't believe how much we were able to see in four
hours with oleg what a fantastic guide he sure made things fun we we visited parts of berlin
neighborhoods um not just the main attractions but like distinct places and neighborhoods where
things took place in history that we would never have found look we've got the train um
don't mind the noise it's almost gone there we go so yeah it was just a fantastic tour
and the other thing that really surprised me was just how much you could see within four hours
i mean we were taking more photos and videos than a typical tourist would so i mean we could have
got all the way to templehof potentially in four hours so you can really see a lot
of the city on bike so thank you oleg thanks oleg super enjoyed that that was so much fun
lunch time boy did we work up an appetite during the four hours of biking so much fun but we are
hungry and so we placed an order we're gonna go with some curries you're getting the palak paneer
yes i am getting the paneer butter masala so we got some naan coming we've got our apple chole
we're all set can't wait to eat well here we have it the palak paneer haven't had this in such a
long time so i'm pretty excited for this with paneer cheese it's kind of like a cottage cheese
spinach cottage delight so spinach this is one of my favorites
i usually order this or the butter chicken we're in good shape for this one we're in good shape
for sure we got some naan coming soon too we do we got them butter garlic yeah and
the spinach is so creamy looks fantastic yum yum wow the naan has arrived i cannot wait to try my
pitier butter masala and guys berlin is a fantastic foodie city we've got everything
any kind of international cuisine you could think of you have we were actually looking for
an indonesian restaurant we were wandering around like oh we'd have to walk another block let's see
if it's down this block that's how we found this place okay guys so we finished biking we had a
delicious lunch and now the adventure continues we are going to be having some beer so we have
come to the berlo brew house here in kreutzberg and we are going to be doing a little guided tour
learning about the brewing process and we're also going to be sampling some beers because
that is what you do when you come to a brewery so we're going to show you that coming up next
the name bello is an interesting story which is connected with the history of berlin first people
who actually settled down in this region uh were slavic people and berlin is a swamp
it's a very the ground is very muddy and this weird name means something like swamp
and the sufix ina means above and they call this area berlina to say the city above the swamp
so to give you a little recap we did the burlo tasting board with food pairings the first beer we
tried was the berlina visa which was paired with green apples beer number one number one berglina
yes let's see i love the color i have to say it looks like honey almost you're right it does have
a very nice summery taste nice and light it's refreshing it's a little bit fruity the pairing
that goes with that are the apples it's a fresh apple and a dried apple chip and some apple cream
next came the helles which is the brewery's most popular beer this one was paired with
toasted bread and mushrooms so so far my favorite has been the berlina vice which honestly reminds
me a little bit of the apfel chocolate we've been drinking which is like that apple juice
with uh sparkling water it's kind of like if that meant beer i liked it a lot basically
when it comes to beer you like beers that taste i like little like beers fruity yeah and then the
second one we've just tried is the helles yeah which is their original this is their versatile
all-arounder yeah such a nice smooth beer and apparently this is the one that uh flows like
water out of the tap when they're having uh events here and when it's packed so uh yeah
let me try this one it's a good one it's a very smooth one yeah and more to come that was followed
by a pale ale paired with chicory and then came the german ipa which was a bit of a stronger beer
it showcased the german hops and it was less fruity than the american ipa this beer was paired
with kimchi and caraway seeds and you already know how much we love kimchi when you see an orangey
color you know there's caramels in there this is my favorite one so far oh yeah the german ipa wow
sweet but also the the hop aromas are very unusual and the pairing personally is maybe my favorite um
we call it german kimchi get rid of that and last but not least we tried a baltic porter which was
smoky yet light this one was paired with fermented black garlic i know these pairings may sound a
bit unusual but they really helped bring out the flavors in the beer so it was a fun taste test for
our palettes also there were loads of other beers to try some with really fun names like goosebumps
unicorn blood and blurry vision and if we hadn't had another activity booked for later that evening
we certainly would have spent a few hours drinking our way through the rest of their menu but we had
a food tour calling our name okay guys so the adventure across berlin continues and now we
are moving on to food street food we have joined an evening food tour here in kreutzberg show the
bag this company fork and walk so we are going to spend the next three hours eating our way around
this part of the city i'm super excited our first stop today is actually currywurst but vegan with a
twist yeah twist and with spice and we are trying something very new to us a classic berlin dish
but reinterpreted so we'll see what that's like okay so first dish is here the vegan curry first
so here we go we got it spicy you can see the the powder the seasoning on there so let's go for it
and tastes like sausage wow it tastes like a hot though wow it is very very sticky ticklish in them
but nice you can't you can't start a food tour in berlin without this this is a staple
okay our next stop of the day food adventure continues and it is amazing we're going to
be trying some turkish delights here we have got pide we've got lamb right in front of me
and then we've also got beef oh my gosh the smell is just wonderful it's been
nicely sliced up for us that language is next level yes so tender nice and juicy
this is a really really good p-day wow it's been years since i've had one so
this is fantastic latest latest german restaurant but serving food tapas style so we have ordered
three dishes to kind of sample and share so if i remember all the names correctly this is the
leyba keizer which i'm told is neither liver nor cheese some kind of sausagey meat perhaps
and then we have the keize spatzler which are the noodles the handmade noodles from the south
lots of cheese these look like the crispy onions on top and then i believe this is the noodle yes
but the vegetarian kind correct yes okay yeah the creamies the dumplings with the with the
mushroom and cream sauce let's dig in i'm gonna try this first i'm very curious about this oh okay
is it kind of like bready yeah that is bread there's bread yeah that's red included yes
how's that nice it's also like every mama in germany will do exactly this kind of sauce we
had something like this but it was like a potato pancake without that sauce and the mushrooms
oh my god at a bar it was like the portion was like this it was like the size of a pizza yeah
it was so good okay isn't that tasty look at how cheesy that is just strings of cheese okay
bring on the cheese bring on the cheese that's one of your favorites wow
so it's southern german yeah okay it's uh it's one of the
traditional dishes there so it's like the the german pasta and last but not least right last
but not least i'm just gonna take a piece of oh pick it up and eat it meats if it is meat
it is it is meat i don't even know what to do with cheese but it's not liver but it is meat
not nice how they do it with this
with sandwich with the bun together you can pick it up and eat it wow
it reminds me a bit of a sausage like a hot dog or a ham yeah but not it is in the middle
of a lot of things but it's it's so it's i never saw this outside of germany yeah it's
really it's really old traditional german dish when you go to the supermarket and
get an imbec there you will get it there okay no restaurants
well it is time to say goodbye farewell everyone the berlin trip is coming to an end and the
germany adventure must continue we wanted to let you know where we stayed because this hotel is
super cool it's called the circus hotel and right across the street they actually have the circus
hostel and they also have the circus apartments and the david hasselhoff museum the david
hasselhoff museum is in the circus hostel yeah um so yeah it's been a really cool property to stay
in like they have a super funky bar and like an outdoor courtyard a rooftop terrace so honestly
i wish i had more time to enjoy the hotel but we were just so busy outside seeing in berlin we were
out literally all day yeah we got up and the bike tour was fantastic i mean we got to see so much of
the city in half a day it just made me think like imagine if you're on your bike for the whole day
you could you could get way outside of the city you could get way past temple hoff it was amazing
and then all the food we ate my goodness did we stuff our beets oh my gosh yeah like the food
tour we did last night was unbelievable and we ate so much that towards the end we actually
had to ask the guide like is it okay if we cut out the next restaurant because we cannot eat anymore
so instead we went to a cocktail bar and we had a drink and that was a really fun and like cool
atmosphere especially because it had started to rain so it was kind of nice to be yeah dark cozy
bar the nice thing about doing a food tour like that is that you kind of get to experience the
city as a local and you get to go to places you would have never found on your own yes
and you know not just one either it's like place after place after place yeah it's really fun
and like our guide lives and breathes kreutzberg like he's from the neighborhood he loves it like
he knows all the places there we also enjoyed the beers we did yesterday afternoon the beer tasting
yes so i mean i feel like the the craziest thing about coming back to berlin was i wasn't sure we
could see enough new things and my goodness i felt like 75-80 percent was new we only spent a few a
few moments revisiting the you know the famous attractions and the rest was all new experiences
new dining new neighborhoods new landmarks it was just all fascinating so yeah with that we will
say goodbye we hope you enjoyed this berlin travel guide covering this to do in berlin germany that's
it for now and we'll see you with more adventures across germany aside from this berlin travel
guide coming up because we are heading south down to bavaria we are so see you then you
