  • episode 13 lately, the days seem longer and colder and you can just feel the stress in the air during this time of year, you'll see a sea of black coats, people going to work to sit at their computer desk all day into the last train.

  • As for me, I don't do youtube full time.

  • So I'm doing two completely different jobs the other day I felt the tension that most of Tokyo was feeling and I decided to change today's original plan to relax and spend time with my girlfriends.

  • We all need a little break.

  • Right?

  • Mm hmm.

  • Yeah, yeah, Good morning everybody.

  • So I decided I need a little break and I'm going to a spa for the first time in Tokyo.

  • I haven't gone to any like spas or like johnson or anything like that.

  • We originally had planned something else, but I had kind of a little bit of a breakdown this week because I was working a lot and all this stuff and I was just like really dead.

  • Like I was constantly going, going, going and I just needed to remind myself to just slow down a little bit.

  • So today we decided we're going to just relax, we're gonna go to a spa and we're going to spend the day there.

  • I just want to have a day where I can just pamper myself and not think about anything.

  • Um I don't know how much I'm gonna be able to film in the spot.

  • I'm probably gonna use my phone a lot.

  • I'm not gonna whip out my camera because I feel like people are gonna be like, oh my god, that girl's filming, we're gonna go ahead to Sunshine City in Ikebukuro and we're gonna pick up hockey if you guys remember AKI from AKI dearest, I missed her so much.

  • So I'm really excited to see her today and we're going to take her to a spot.

  • But yeah, I didn't really do anything this morning except wake up, I got something from family mart because I just wanted to eat something to tide me over a little bit.

  • So I got this, it's like a bacon Tamargo.

  • Tamargo means egg, bacon and egg bread thing.

  • I don't usually eat stuff like this, but I don't know, I just wanted something to tie me over because I'm not going to see them for another couple hours and get all sorts of stuff at the convenience store like this if you're in a rush.

  • And I think uh convenient stores are actually really convenient time to go.

  • Mhm.

  • Moving to another country and trying to create a life can be pretty tough, especially if you're not fluent in the language.

  • There have been a lot of days where I wonder where I'm going and what I'm doing wrong.

  • I've learned lately to do what makes me happy and be successful and that is possible instead of planning every little bit of my future, life is too short to look that far ahead.

  • But these thoughts will be a lot more intense if you choose to live here long term, I've been here in a year so we're gonna figure it out, Google maps.

  • One thing I wish I knew before I moved here is where I was going in my life here in Japan because I didn't expect to live here long term, but I am and things change sometimes It was so lost You guys, I lived in Japan for six years that I was so lost.

  • Actually like getting lost.

  • It's a beautiful place.

  • You can look, it was really beautiful.

  • There's lots of things to do.

  • There's like a movie theater and all the buildings are like sky high, like all the stores are like way up in the sky.

  • It's really cool.

  • It's very interesting.

  • Okay outfit of the day.

  • Look at, she's always wearing like the craziest, cutest things like, oh my God, I love game stores but I honestly just, I can't win anything for the life of me.

  • But this is like the cutest star ever.

  • Look how many stuffed animals there are.

  • Like, look, I want this one.

  • This is what I'm talking about.

  • Like Japan is such a collector culture.

  • So if you go to a game store, like you'll find so many different things to collect so many stuffed animals and things like that.

  • So random.

  • What is this?

  • Why is he laying down and why is he wearing pink pants and why is he brown?

  • Japan's like the regular mickey mouse isn't good enough.

  • He's going to try to get some drugs will be figures.

  • Yeah, okay.

  • And I didn't know Japan was a place where I'd be reminded of being an outsider every day.

  • I never knew that the stairs would never stop and I never knew that Japan would eventually become an addictive way of life.

  • I came here with a one year plan and six years later I'm still here.

  • Uh, he's living here now.

  • Subscribe, not that you need a plug on my own channel.

  • This is the magical drink bar of life.

  • I think anywhere in the world you live, you'll find it addicting because you want to learn and no more travel and constant curiosity is addicting.

  • And so I've decided my home is anywhere and everywhere as well as nowhere.

  • I will always be moving and changing and exploring, but it takes a certain type of person to live this way we're going to animate.

  • I haven't been animated forever way.

  • I kind of prefer the one in a way.

  • I can't wait until spring in Japan, cherry blossom season is the best way I've been meaning to.

  • We had to have a hug honey.

  • Oh my God, Oh my goodness, this is raunchy.

  • Look at these new anime butts.

  • Yeah, my heart, my heart and nostalgia feeling crazy.

  • We're at a Japanese bookstore right now and this is what it looks like.

  • Look at all the books behind me, You can study Jeff.

  • Well you could study your Japanese with these books if you want to do.

  • We're kind of in the love story porn section.

  • You know, we're all the female fantasies come true.

  • Thank you.

  • I think we all gravitate towards shiny, colorful fantasy type objects and initially this stuff is one thing that influenced me as a kid.

  • Mhm What you get when you get, when you get, when you get what I hate those things can never open up to you.

  • Yeah, it's a little bullet point for us.

  • All my change.

  • I think there's a lot of distractions here that keep you from sometimes moving forward with your life.

  • I struggle with it every day.

  • If you move here, my advice is to try to make some initial goals.

  • Even if they change later, make a plan for if you decide to leave and if you decide to stay otherwise you might get a little stuck.

  • Okay, Gretchen got excited about flowers, awesome.

  • It means spring.

  • I love yeah, I love everything.

  • I love the leaves and flowers and surround yourself with positive people.

  • So wait, I'm confused.

  • Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

  • We are this way.

  • Wait, so why am I moving so much?

  • I think where?

  • No, honestly I read a lot of articles and posts about how people who decide to stay here in Japan long term never make it in life and can never succeed.

  • We're all crazy because society says it's not the norm.

  • Don't listen to society because if you let go of what society says is the best for you, then you'll be able to live the most fulfilling life.

  • That's traditional in Japan to drink milk afternoon.

  • Are you peeking, can we get naked now here, just got done at the own son.

  • I'm feeling really relaxed and hungry.

  • They had an electric bath which is very interesting.

  • That was kind of hard to handle though.

  • I don't think I could do that again, but I guess it's supposed to be good for your body and they have like a hot one and then a super, super freezing cold one because it's really good for your immune system to go into hot and then cold and then they had an outside one which is very salty and muddy like from the earth.

  • It was really cheap.

  • It was only 420 in.

  • It's a very nice day today in Japan, you're supposed to drink milk after you get out of the bath.

  • But in America, it's just a monster all the way.

  • America, we drink energy drinks, staying with some friends last night.

  • Like there's so many like little, not focal or stuff like just little like uh things that they tell you like I think one was, don't whisper at night or else the snakes will come.

  • Yeah, I was just like, I feel like there's a lot of the folklore hair is like a lot of old wives tale, old wives tales like you know how your grandma, everyone's grandma will tell them, don't do this or else this spontaneous thing will happen.

  • I feel like this country is built off of them.

  • Yeah.

  • In their culture is one of my japanese friends said, um, if you leave the air, the fan on at night, you will die or something like that, you'll go to hell or I don't know like it's like really like another one is like the lightning will cover up your belly button or else the lightning will steal it wake.

  • You had some issues opening your own any is there like a garbage over here.

  • This is an issue when you come to Japan.

  • Yeah, there's no, oh, this one here.

  • Okay, okay, you got a little bit lost and so now we gotta go back, but it's easy.

  • You just look up the station that you're at and then you go back and pay attention when you're on the train.

  • Exactly, can get soup, corn soup and the vending machine an adventure.

  • One thing I wish I could have known before moving here is that I was going to fall in love.

  • Yes, you can fall in love with the place and I think that's a pretty good example of what it feels like to fall for a person as well.

  • I didn't know I would be so attached to everything.

  • This country is so beautiful.

  • There is no way you can't love it, So be warned I need more shoes.

  • You always need more shoes.

  • Get these.

  • Oh my God, I want these are so cute.

  • Okay, this is a phone case you guys.

  • This is so extra.

  • Mhm.

  • So going back to my last video about safety in Japan.

  • My friends thought this guy was being nice at first but it turned out that he was trying to get with one of us and eventually seriously asked Mariana to go out with him or get married or go with him.

  • And the flirting started to escalate, making us pretty uncomfortable in the end.

  • Okay, we have to go, bye bye.

  • They killed me.

  • That was disgusting.

  • You got, you got asked to get married, you got asked to marry.

  • She got asked or she said she was, wait what happened?

  • He said that I look 14 time world of warcraft.

  • After that random encounter we decided to get something sweet.

  • Mm hmm.

  • So we keep losing hockey and we can't find her.

  • Did she go upstairs?

  • Yeah.

  • Yeah.

  • Mm hmm.

  • Yeah.

  • I can't even like film you guys like you're so close.

  • Oh yeah, that's really close.

  • So behind me there are some beds and you can take a nap and there's a nap specialist standing right over there.

  • I don't know why throughout your life.

  • Hobbies change interest change people change And every little change can affect your life greatly.

  • So don't just stick to one thing when you move here, especially when you're young, take this time and most of your twenties to discover who you are and what you want.

  • It's okay to take that time to do so, but make some goals, write them down.

  • It'll help you in the long run.

  • Yeah, it went from summer freaking cold man.

  • We're full, we're stuff, we had lots of yummy drinks and on sin and we're chill now.

  • We had a really good pamper ourselves kind of day, go home.

  • It's not a hat.

  • Yeah, it was nice hanging out.

  • Let's hang out again.

  • Let me know when you're bored.

  • How do you look at all the cameras?

  • Mhm.

  • She's on every single freaking add.

  • Like it's almost like she has like clones and like she's doing a zillion jobs.

  • Like I'm not even kidding.

  • Yeah.

  • Yeah, okay, I'm home now and it was amazing day.

  • I needed this.

  • Like I really, really needed this.

  • I had a really rough week.

  • There was stuff going on with my bank and like I was trying to get my tax stuff together and it's just that season were like you're just extra extra busy.

  • And then I remember I just called my boyfriend, I was like, I'm doing too much.

  • So yeah, that's what happens when you have like two jobs that you're doing.

  • My dream honestly is to one day do this full time, but I want to start something that will give value to others and um I feel like that's my calling and that's my purpose and I'm going to keep working hard towards it.

  • Like I'm not going to stop, I don't want to do just youtube.

  • I want to branch out into other things that'll help people and I think that's the number one thing that I want to focus on now and I know it took me so long to figure that out.

  • I think Living in Japan and your 20's really opens your eyes to so many different possibilities, abilities and so many different things that you can do with your life and yourself and your interests change and you just, you learn more about yourself and you live abroad and I feel like because of that it's just very overwhelming, everything kind of hits you at once.

  • So moving here, living here long term has changed so much, a lot of my ideas and a lot of my thoughts and I think that's the thing that's going to be the hardest when you moved to Japan and the thing that I didn't know about when I came here and I wish I did know because I feel like I could have had like, you know a plan A plan B type thing and if this changes then I can do this, if this changes then I can do that, but there's some things that you can't predict and you have to discover for yourself.

  • Yeah, I'm exhausted, I'm tired, I'm so chill right now from the own sun.

  • So the sun means hot spring by the way.

  • But anyway, I'm going to end this vlog here and I hope you guys enjoyed it and I'll see you in the next Girl abroad episode.
