  • problems pose some risk to third quarter earnings resulting from disappointing sales or production

  • due to the lack of supply. The number of companies setting shortages continues to climb and may

  • lead to revised guidance in the last two weeks of the quarter sometimes called the confession

  • period. On Tuesday, the consumer price index, a closely watched measure of U.S. inflation,

  • is forecast to show prices continue to rise at a solid pace in August. Economists and

  • policymakers are in the midst of a heated debate on the path of inflation and its persistence,

  • but for American consumers the rapid price gains have whittled away purchasing power.

  • A lack of any deterioration in real time economic indicators like dining reservations or movie

  • theater box office receipts or city traffic congestion show the rise of the Delta variant

  • in August seems to have little impact on what people were doing, but how they're feeling

  • is a different story. the University of Michigan's widely watched consumer sentiment survey for

  • September is due to be released on Friday. After it plunged in August down near the lows

  • of last year's pandemic lockdowns, we'll have to see if there's any bounce as the Delta

  • cases recede. Also, Friday is a quadruple witching day for U.S. markets when the quarterly

  • expiration of futures and options on indexes in stocks occurs on the same day. High volatility

  • and trading volume is often the result. Thanks for watching
