  • Matcha and Ramen

  • When you hear these two worlds you wouldn't imagine them being together

  • But here in a restaurant called MENSHO in Shinjuku,

  • Matcha and Ramen are the most famous combination on the menu

  • So why don't we give Matcha ramen a try?

  • The first Mensho store was opened in San Francisco

  • with a goal of combining traditional flavor with creative elements

  • The store has received massive support by local young people

  • And has been expanding ever since

  • There vision is creating a fun time for the customers

  • and make them happy by providing the best they can

  • To them, work is not just about getting paid

  • but seeing their customer happy and satisfied

  • We asked Shimatani-san from MENSHO about what exactly RAMEN is

  • What is a ramen?

  • When you check on Wikipedia about ramen,

  • It says Ramen is Chinese noodle with KANSUI in it

  • but it's diverse now

  • The trend is, when I say it's Ramen, it's Ramen

  • For us, we have a definition for Ramen

  • The definition are the 5 elements

  • TARE (sauce),soup, noodle, oil and toppings

  • What has these 5, is a Ramen

  • Why Matcha and Ramen?

  • We sold Matcha and Ramen abroad

  • It was a great hit

  • People loved it, so we brought it to Japan

  • Excellent -Thank you

  • Who comes here?

  • Foreign people. Now with COVID, not so much

  • When we opened, there we so many

  • And because this is fashion building, many girls

  • For Instagram pictures?

  • Well, that as well

  • When bringing this Ramen to Japan,

  • since there are many girls here

  • so we changed it to Japanese taste to match the needs

  • For example,

  • people in USA or abroad likes more of the oily taste

  • but for the girls here, we tried to make it healthy

  • So the Matcha Ramen is healthy? -Yes

  • Choshu pork is probably not, though

  • Not too healthy

  • Well, it's balance

  • With the soup, it's better

  • How do people react when they eat this?

  • When it comes out, they are surprised

  • It's green, so they shout "oh gosh, it's green"

  • but not just the looks but they taste it and it's great

  • How do the tourists find this place?

  • A lot of word-of-mouth

  • or they see pictures on social media

  • They come with the picture and show it to us

  • What about the message to our viewers?

  • When COVID gets better, come and eat our RAMEN

  • As I said, it's Japan limited taste

  • Even if you ate in US, it's going to be different taste

  • Our mission today is to try their signature meal, Matcha Ramen

  • You can't even smell Matcha. It smells like chicken

  • Chicken Broth

  • So delicious!

  • I did not expect this flavor

  • I'm so shocked. This is so delicious!

  • The soup is mixed so well, it's kind of like fluffy

  • The soups is thick, and like foam when you're eating it

  • Noodles are very soft and chewy

  • I'm not a fan of Matcha,

  • so I was a bit worried I wouldn't like this

  • but this is one of the best Ramen I have ever tried in my life

  • Seriously, it is so delicious

  • I can't believe it

  • Delicious

  • There is no other word to describe it

  • It's just delicious

  • It's soft, and it melts as soon as you bite it,

  • I didn't bit it. I just touched it and it already melted on my tongue

  • And my favorite part of Ramen is always this soft boiled egg

  • Because Japanese just know how to make an egg

  • They just know how to boil it properly

  • This is 10 out of 10

  • 10 out of 10 experience, seriously.

  • The Matcha flavor is not so strong on this one

  • You can taste it, but it really doesn't affect the flavor

  • I think the chicken flavor is much stronger than the Matcha flavor

  • but seeing the Ramen so green and trying it so....

  • It's an unexpected flavor

  • That was very exciting experience

  • Despite the fact that Matcha and Ramen are not often combined together,

  • This taste was a real surprise to me,

  • Because I didn't expect Match to go so well with chicken broth, CHASU pork, eggs....

  • It was something I never imagined before

  • but I'm totally digging this new flavor

  • and I cannot wait to try more taste of Ramen

  • As you can see, taste of Ramen is always evolving,

  • and we don't know what the future holds

  • Maybe there will be more interesting flavors coming up in the future

  • We'll be there to try

  • Make sure you try this Ramen when you come to Tokyo
