  • okay, satisfying.

  • Here I am.

  • Welcome to watch Mojo.

  • And today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 people who were fired from Saturday night Live.

  • God, I hate doing this part, man.

  • I never know what to say.

  • What are you doing?

  • I'm turning you out.

  • Boy, You're doing what will you leave?

  • Please?

  • I don't have to leave for this list.

  • We're looking at fired cast mates who either were popular members of the cast or went on to greater fame following their stint on the show.

  • We won't be including anyone who was fired before they even appeared like Shane Gillis.

  • Who do you think is the top cast member fired from Saturday Night Live?

  • Take aim in the comments.

  • Number 10 Robert Downey Jr.

  • When Robert Downey Jr was a cast member on SNL, he was not yet the sought after star that has since become Go get them, Tiger.

  • Wonderful.

  • Sure, it is my pressure to meet you.

  • Sure, he's now a household name with all those Marvel movies under his belt.

  • But back in the mid eighties, Downey had done little more than a few off Broadway productions and had little to no comedy experience.

  • Still, he made it on the show.

  • But in his only season, the cast reportedly had trouble jelling.

  • And as a result, there was a major cast purge at the end of the year that included Downey Jr.

  • It did seem to have a certain, um, certain mm with him earning a reported $75 million for Avengers endgame.

  • It seems like things worked out okay for the guy, it's a long way from Suitcase Boy to Iron Man.

  • Yeah, Iron Man Number nine Joan Cusack.

  • Joan Cusack, older sister to John Cusack was let go from Saturday Night Live in the same cast purge that ended Robert Downey Jr Short tenure on the show.

  • Will you leave, please?

  • I don't have to leave, you know, and this is an ensemble cast.

  • The now beloved character actress has had more than 80 credits since her release from SNL, including movies like Broadcast News in School of Rock.

  • I'll drink to that.

  • She was even nominated for Oscars for her performances in both Working Girl and In and Out, and earned multiple Emmy nominations, including one win for her role on Shameless.

  • It looks like SNL's loss was our gain.

  • Yeah.

  • No, I've never won anything either.

  • Oh, it's It's so great.

  • Yeah, I'm thrilled.

  • Number eight Norm MacDonald.

  • Unlike the other firings featured on this list, the removal of weekend update stalwart Norm MacDonald was not initiated by show creator slash producer Lorne Michaels.

  • F.

  • Lee Bailey said this week that if the defense only knew what Ron Goldman's last words were, they might be able to find the real killer.

  • You know, if you ask me, Goldman's last words were probably, Hey, you're O.

  • J.

  • Simpson.

  • McDonald's release was reportedly the decision of NBC executive Don Ohlmeyer, who cited declining ratings and work quality as the reasons.

  • Still, rumors persist that the firing was due to McDonald's many jokes about Ohlmeyer's friend O.

  • J.

  • Simpson.

  • This week of the O.

  • J.

  • Simpson trial, the infamous bloody glove was finally introduced into evidence, and O.

  • J didn't help his case any by blurting out there it is.

  • I've been looking all over for that thing.

  • Whatever the reason, it is clear that McDonald landed on his feet, going on to build a resume of acting and voice acting credits, including two sitcoms centered on him.

  • He's become so iconic that many other comics now do impressions of him.

  • And finally, in honor of the 50th anniversary of their first publication, Random House will be releasing special commemorative issues of many Dr Seuss classics.

  • The first to hit the bookshelves will be Green Eggs and Ham, and O.

  • J is guilty.

  • Number seven Rob Riggle.

  • When Wriggle joined the cast of SNL, he was the only new member added to an already star studded cast, including the likes of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Fred Armisen.

  • Lord, help me to help, yes!

  • Whoa, ha ha!

  • That felt as such, despite making a few memorable characters like Leviticus, the street prophet, he found he had trouble making his mark.

  • It appears that Lorne Michaels agreed, and let wriggle go after only one season.

  • What are you doing?

  • I'm turning you out, boy, you're doing what?

  • But wriggle rebounded, landing a spot on The Daily Show.

  • Since then, his imposing presence and booming voice have served him quite well in his many comic acting pursuits.

  • What the hell was that?

  • Goddamn it, son.

  • Don't ever raise your hand to me like that again.

  • All right?

  • I consider that a threat Number six Jenny Slate.

  • While it is true that Jenny Slate did drop a big no, no word on the first episode she ever participated in this might not be the reason she was fired at the end of her only season.

  • You forget.

  • Just do an ashtray full of buttons in my head.

  • You know what?

  • You stood up for yourself, and I'm lucky for that.

  • She maintains she was fired because Lauren Michaels simply did not like her and did not think she fit the show like so many others on this list.

  • Slight has since become a much sought after comedic actress, voice artist and stand up comedian.

  • I'm still here from Jean Ralph, Eos Twin sister Mona Lisa on parks and recreation to the voice of Tammy on Bob's burgers.

  • Slate has left no comedic stone unturned since being dropped from SNL.

  • See, this stays with me.

  • And if you don't stop acting like a prude, a bagel and come to the mall, I'm going to give it to Jimmy Jr.

  • Number five.

  • Sarah Silverman.

  • We believe Silverman might hold the distinction of being the only person fired from Saturday Night Live via facts.

  • Don't take a picture of me.

  • Oh my God, I'm so embarrassed!

  • Despite her cute comic persona, she admits that she was not ready at the time of her stint on SNL and didn't even write quote one single funny sketch in her loan season, so that might have something to do with it, too.

  • She has since blossomed into a true and beloved comic force with her irreverent Stand up the Beautiful and Uniting I Love You America and her voice work on everything from The Simpsons to Bob's Burgers.

  • Does the winner get a hug from Ali?

  • Yeah, Andy, you can have one of those any old time she has returned to host the show, and her frequent appearances on roasts are truly amazing as well.

  • I saw the movie The Guilt Trip Seth.

  • What was it like working with Barbra Streisand?

  • And how did you to tell each other apart, like, did one of you wear a carnation or something like that?

  • Number four.

  • Damon Wayans, huh?

  • Mm brought in to fill the void left by the exit of Eddie Murphy.

  • David Wayne's didn't make it past one season on the show.

  • Wayne's was fired for insubordination after changing a character without producer approval.

  • Wayne's was already feeling under utilized on the show and reportedly embraced the firing.

  • He later went on to star on In Living Color, a sketch comedy show created by his older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans.

  • That one was just a display at Um, Don't fret now because we've got some other stuff.

  • We like to call it a jury.

  • Jury Jury What would we do if we hadn't ever seen Homeboy Shopping Network or homey D clown?

  • Let's get some straight kids home.

  • He may be a cloud, but he don't make a fool out of his family.

  • I become a cloud here.

  • I guess it's because I got so much love to give, and it's part of my prison work release program.

  • He also went on to win a B E T Comedy Award and a People's Choice Award.

  • Not bad, to say the very least.

  • Number three Adam Sandler Put on your Yamaka Here comes Hanukkah.

  • So much Monica to celebrate Hanukkah.

  • Having made a name for himself on the show over his five years, Sandler was surprised when he was let go with two years remaining on his contract, his movie career had started to take off, and he was considering quitting himself, but was still surprised to be let go with no reason given.

  • I have to apologize for my hairy chest.

  • It can be a little scratchy.

  • Yeah, my mom might like it, Dad.

  • She's a big Tom Selleck fan.

  • He holds no ill will and even made fun of it in a song.

  • When he returned to host the show.

  • That song builds appropriately to this line.

  • NBC said that I was done.

  • Then I made over $4 billion at the box office, so I guess you could say I want truer words May never have been sung.

  • Could have used more canteen boy or opera man, but it seems to have worked out All right.

  • Number two.

  • Chris Farley Chris Farley was fired from SNL at the same time as his friend Adam Sandler, but we can't decide where to go.

  • Do you know where you want to go, Hank?

  • Go a way.

  • The firing was meant to be a warning to Farley to get his life together, but it appears as though that warning went tragically unheated.

  • God, I hate doing this part, man I never know what to say.

  • Farley died of a drug overdose a couple of years later.

  • And just two months after being brought back to host the show, His time on earth after SNL was brief.

  • But at least we have the memories of his classic characters, like Matt Foley and also his much loved movie pairings with David Spade, Tommy Boy and black sheep.

  • You okay?

  • Hey.

  • Yeah, I'm just dandy.

  • I got a bowl of chocolate pudding in my underpants.

  • Farley's gone too soon and still missed to this day before we unveil our top pick.

  • Here are some honorable mentions.

  • Julia Louis Dreyfus, Elaine from Seinfeld was on SNL.

  • Get out.

  • Okay.

  • You satisfied?

  • Here I am, Jay.

  • Pharaoh.

  • So many impressions yet so little time, you know?

  • But that's that's when Kevin got open.

  • Kev was like, first of all back King King about.

  • Here's your problem.

  • Hey, what?

  • The problem is, first of all, you got a perm.

  • Michaela Watkins.

  • She founded quote a little rude.

  • You know what they should have?

  • They should have these vending machines, uh, for umbrellas.

  • Because Why?

  • Why?

  • Because if you're somewhere and it starts raining and you don't have an umbrella.

  • No, that never happened.

  • That never happened.

  • Laurie Metcalf.

  • Possibly the right place, but surely the wrong time.

  • No, I couldn't.

  • Number one Chris Rock.

  • Chris Rock was fired from Saturday Night Live at around the same time as both Chris Farley and Adam Sandler joining in the latter song.

  • Then I went on in living color.

  • Yeah, three weeks later, they took it off T V.

  • In the case of Rock, he generally refused to perform what he considered to be stereotypical roles, which may have led to his removal.

  • Well, I don't wanna be that guy.

  • I want to be that other guy.

  • Be that as it may, there is no doubt that his career skyrocketed thereafter.

  • Since leaving the show, he has produced or executive produced on numerous projects, won three Grammy Awards for his comedy and four primetime Emmy Awards.

  • He is one of the world's greatest comedians of all time and is certainly deserving of the top spot on our list.
