  • Hey, ambitious professionals.

  • It's Linda Rainer of linda, rainer dot com, guiding you to a career in life you'll truly enjoy.

  • And today is a very special video because I have a special guest that will be joining me.

  • His name is Christopher, and he is here to share his story as to what he did in order to his dream job that he has already started working in.

  • And I can't wait for him to share his story with me and with you.

  • So, without further ado, thank you so much for Christopher for joining us here today.

  • No worries.

  • I'm happy to be here and share my story.

  • So, Christopher, can you just give the audience a bit of an idea as to your background and your work history, Your career path up until this point, Yes.

  • So I started working when I was still in college.

  • I was working full time to be able to support myself to go through college.

  • I worked in a company and I was an analyst and the company I was with the company for nine years and I did a lot of the sales operational work, which is analytics to really support the sale team to make them successful.

  • I did that.

  • And then what happened was is that the company I was laid off of after working there nine years, So I ended up traveling for a year doing humanitarian work.

  • So after doing all that, I came back and accepted a role in a company.

  • And the role in the company that I got was very good, but unfortunately, they had to lay me off because they weren't doing that.

  • Well, they're a bit of a startup, just wasn't working.

  • So then I kind of went around applying and I didn't really get anywhere.

  • So I took a lesser job That was a little bit less than when I was making at the time, because I had to work somewhere, you know, um, this is before the pandemic.

  • It and I worked through this company during the pandemic and did the best I could, and then eventually they ran out of cash flow.

  • During that time, it wasn't really satisfied.

  • So I brought your course, but I didn't really use it.

  • Once I got laid off, I was like, Well, no reason to use your course, and I went through the course and I liked it very much and I learned a lot, and I what I did do the course was I applied what I learned and I was able to get a lot more attraction than I did in the beginning.

  • I've been realized very quickly.

  • I won't have to settle for my job, and I end up working on a job now that I'm getting paid the same I was before I left, and that was something.

  • I struggled to reach that level from my last job, So I'm very happy before I'm working now.

  • I'm very happy with the success I had, and I'm very happy to be where I am, and a lot of it had to do with the course.

  • I believe that's amazing.

  • Thank you for sharing that.

  • So let's talk a little bit about the results that you got from taking top notch resume.

  • So you said that in the past you had applied for jobs and you weren't really getting interviews.

  • And so when you started using your new top notch resume, what were the comments that you were getting from interviewers?

  • What were you hearing?

  • What was what were the results.

  • The results are very positive, even on interviews back before the pandemic.

  • It when I was looking, I got a few interviews, but I never passed the first and they were very rare, like it took a long time and a lot of applying that interview.

  • This time I was getting a good amount of interviews.

  • I would say, like, you know, anywhere between three out of 10 in some cases, which is very good.

  • I mean, I think that's very good, and I was getting into when I was making it to the third or fourth level.

  • A lot of times, even if I didn't get it, some of the feedback I would get from employers was that you have the skills I'm looking for, even the ones I didn't get it.

  • They still said that, though, and it made me realize, Okay, at least I'm I am what they're looking for, and I'm targeting the right people and everything looks right.

  • So that was kind of the direction I was going in and a lot of people were very responsive.

  • They liked my resume, like the format.

  • They're happy to interview me, and it just seemed to be very good calls where before it wasn't.

  • And I ended up accepting an offer recently because it was exactly I wanted to do.

  • And when I got the author, there was no reason not to accept it.

  • Yes, congratulations on the new job, too.

  • So happy for you.

  • So you said that, you know, it felt like the interviews were going a lot easier.

  • And do you think that it was because of how your resume looks like all of a sudden, people's impression of you changed compared to how they looked at you before?

  • Oh, yeah.

  • When I believe that now they were able to understand exactly what I did and how it related to what they wanted, where before, when I used the professional to help me, which I paid, I'm not gonna sandwich.

  • I paid for by paid a lot more than I paid for.

  • Of course, it definitely did not give that impression where this time it did.

  • That's great.

  • So I think people are really curious, like, you know, you don't have to share everything that you learned in the course because I want people to take the course.

  • Top nachos may just like you did in order to learn how to create a great resume.

  • But what do you think was the biggest thing about the course that you realized you were doing wrong Before that?

  • It made all the difference in you getting your job offer.

  • I believe it was the format.

  • The format was very easily laid out that anyone common sense can look at it.

  • And then the other reason I would say is that it reverse engineered what the job title I wanted.

  • So it was more of working kind of what I already was looking for and taking the job description and going backwards.

  • So it kind of worked that way.

  • And I feel like that kind of stood out because I had those skills already.

  • But this time it was laid out the way they want to read it and pointed right in their face.

  • And you can't deny it.

  • Yes.

  • Amazing.

  • So can you tell us a little bit?

  • Christopher What?

  • What exactly is your new job now?

  • And I know you just recently started it's probably been only a couple of days, so tell us a little bit about this new job and how you feel about it.

  • So far, it's been very good.

  • I've been doing a lot of training.

  • It's exactly what I wanted to do.

  • I do a lot of the CRM, which is customer relations, management, entry and analytical work.

  • Sales support.

  • That's amazing.

  • Okay, that's great.

  • So let's hear about what you would say to people who are listening and watching out there right now who are struggling to get interviews, especially during this pandemic.

  • We all feel that it's supposed to be hard to get a job during this pandemic.

  • I mean, what would you say to them?

  • You know, would you recommend that they take top notch resume?

  • What would your words of advice be?

  • Um, I would definitely recommend if you're struggling and you're not getting the results, you want to take top notch resume.

  • I would also say, Take your time with it.

  • Don't just randomly apply.

  • Make sure you specifically go for each each job, even if it's exact.

  • Same job title.

  • The description is going to be different and make sure it matches that description, and I would say Do everything the course advises and then you're successful.

  • Come, don't give up you know, it's This is just a small part of your life.

  • We've all been through things, and eventually something will come up.

  • Something will change.

  • You won't be unemployed forever.

  • And if you refuse the course, maybe you'll be unemployed a lot less longer.

  • So you know what?

  • Just just take it.

  • Go for it.

  • Make sure you just stay focused.

  • That's great.

  • And I'm curious.

  • Christopher, how has your confidence level changed?

  • You know, from when you were working at that previous job and you got laid off and then you started taking top notch resume and applying.

  • And now you've gotten your job offer.

  • How different do you feel about yourself?

  • Oh, I feel 110% different.

  • I feel more confident when I go into interviews.

  • I know it's not like my only option.

  • So I don't go in there with, like, a desperate mindset.

  • I think I go in there with more like a mindset like Okay, Is this going to work for both of us?

  • Do I have the skills?

  • Is something that I can learn.

  • It's just having a good conversation, you know, nothing is perfect, but having a good conversation I would say so, Chris, back when you were looking for a job and you weren't really getting the interviews, you weren't getting the callbacks.

  • How was that impacting you mentally?

  • Emotionally?

  • How are you feeling about yourself as a job candidate and as a a professional in general, it was not a good feeling, You know, it's one of those things where it's like if you're getting that much rejection, you can't help but take it personally.

  • You know, I know in life we shouldn't take things personally, but it does.

  • And, you know, I wasn't very happy with it, and it definitely did a big blow, especially back then.

  • There wasn't any economic reasons economy was doing well, so that made it even worse.

  • At least now you can argue.

  • Oh, it's a pandemic.

  • Back then there was no reason, and it definitely wasn't a good feeling.

  • And you know, it's hard, too, because I worked at a company for nine years and I was accustomed to working 50 plus hours, some weeks just because I wanted to grow.

  • You know, I left before I left.

  • I was a manager there, so I worked very hard to go from the bottom to the top and to kind of not have anything after working so much was not a good feeling at all.

  • Right?

  • Right.

  • And so you put all your energy into taking top notch resume into learning what you needed to learn.

  • Did you find that?

  • The concepts that you learned in the course we're different from anything that you've heard elsewhere.

  • You know, about how to write your resume, how to sell yourself.

  • Did you find that it was completely different, Or how did you feel about that?

  • Um, I feel that it was definitely completely different.

  • I feel like it was very thorough.

  • It was definitely right to the point.

  • Um, it was format.

  • It would definitely have good formatting.

  • I have a friend who worked as a recruiter, and I sent her my resume and just said, Oh, could you give it a look over?

  • And she did she give some feedback?

  • But the first thing throwback was I love this format.

  • She's like, this is the format that every candidate should use.

  • This is the format everyone should you.

  • And that made me feel much better.

  • I was like, Okay, that's great.

  • You know people who work in industries, love looking at it, and I couldn't believe like I remember my After my first week on in November, I ended up getting scheduled for, like, three companies to interview with.

  • And I thought that was amazing.

  • And I was like, Wow, that's that's That's fantastic.

  • Yeah, that's great.

  • So when you got those interviews, did you find that it was easy for you to sell yourself in the interview because I have another course top called Top Notch interview, which helps people with interviewing.

  • But you didn't even need that.

  • You just had the top notch resume, and that was enough to carry you through.

  • Like, did you find that learning what you learned in top notch resume was enough?

  • You know, if I could go back, I probably would have taken your top notch interview course if, uh, you know, hopefully it doesn't happen.

  • But if anything goes, I start looking for another job or anything.

  • I'll probably go back and take it.

  • I think I probably could have needed something some better interviewing skills, thinking about it, but I was able to get to like 3rd, 3rd rounds and other things with with my resume and a lot of it because I had the skill set.

  • So you can't really deny when you have the skill set and it's organized in the way with someone looking at resume goes, Oh, they definitely have it, even if you don't take the course you still can't argue with.

  • Okay, this person can do the job, but at the same time, I would still I probably recommend that course.

  • So Christopher's saying, Take top notch resume and top notch interview if you are thinking about it.

  • Well, okay.

  • I think that we have heard an amazing story from you.

  • Christopher, I am so happy for you.

  • Congratulations on this new job.

  • You know, I'm really proud of everything that you've done for yourself, and you've been able to find a job in the middle of this pandemic when lots of people are saying that it's tough.

  • I mean, at the end of the day, do you feel that the pandemic really has any impact on your job search?

  • Or do you think that at the end of the day, it should just be about your resume?

  • And how you sell yourself should just be about your resume and how you sell yourself, you know, I mean, I understand the pandemic is real and the economy being down is real.

  • And a lot of people losing jobs and all that stuff is realist.

  • You can't deny the fact I just turn on a news station.

  • But I would say is, you know, you can't control those factors.

  • Just focus on what you can control it.

  • Control your resume and your ability to sell yourself.

  • That's all you can do.

  • And that's all you need to focus on.

  • That's great.

  • Well, thank you so much, Christopher.

  • I really appreciate you sharing your story with us.

  • Congratulations again, And I can't wait to hear about future successes.
