  • I wanted to start, though, with some big news yesterday in the NFL that we think that I think has at least a tangential tied to the draft.

  • As J.

  • J.

  • Watt decided to sign with the Arizona Cardinals, he was a free agent for about a week or so and obviously could sign with someone because he had previously been cut.

  • Todd, I'll start with you.

  • Were you surprised that J.

  • J.

  • Watt pick the Arizona Cardinals a little bit?

  • To be honest, I, you know, I had heard Cleveland is a strong possibility and some other places.

  • Um, but it changes the landscape a little bit.

  • Only because I last mock draft.

  • I had them going with the defensive end and now with Greg Rousseau.

  • I think it was the defense event from Miami.

  • So now it doesn't mean that they won't take a defensive end or an edge rusher.

  • But it does, you know, put some other pressing needs in hand and cornerback is one of them.

  • And then on the offensive side, I think you can't get enough weapons around around your young star quarterback.

  • So well, it'll be interesting to see.

  • But I did not expect J.

  • J.

  • Watt to wind up in Arizona.

  • What do you think, Mel?

  • A little surprised.

  • But I think you look at this team and you say Okay, you know what they're trying to do with a sign reading?

  • Moving on.

  • Chandler Jones coming back the quarterback position at 16.

  • I really think they can address what Maybe J.

  • C.

  • Horn from South Carolina, son of Joe Horn.

  • Uh, so I think they can get that need fill there.

  • And Todd mentioned the defensive line.

  • There's not a guy that you're gonna be tempted.

  • I don't think that early Todd thought.

  • Maybe Rousseau.

  • I think that's a little early for him.

  • He opted out.

  • He had that one year for those 15 sacks in 2019.

  • But when I went back and looked at him with some of those sacks for coverage, Bridge sacks the quarterback of the ball too long.

  • He did hustle and get in there, and he's got to anticipate, snap count better.

  • He needed to work on some things.

  • They kicked him inside.

  • He was very impressive.

  • I like that aspect of his game, but I think the fact that there wasn't an appealing defensive lineman made.

  • I think J.

  • J.

  • Watt more attractive to the Arizona Cardinals, and he's going to be 32 later this month.

  • Male.

  • So does that mean?

  • I mean, if you thought defensive end was a need coming into this off season for the Cardinals, designing a 32 year old to a two year deal really mean that it's no longer a need?

  • Well, this draft, I think it's going to be interesting.

  • And Todd and I were talking about the lack of defensive end pass rushers or guys off the excess on Reddit had a great year.

  • He's gonna be able to basically partly that into something good in terms of the free agent market.

  • But I think there's a couple of guys that have you thought about and I always look at the Ravens.

  • That's kind of a model with Matthew Juden is the various Smith and probably a couple of guys thought.

  • I think I have a chance and I'll be curious to see where you think they'll go.

  • Chauncey Gholston, Iowa I think when you look at a guy like Victor de Mu kg from Duke and Chris from the second, also pretty good but the occasion more to bargain point than Ronnie Perkins.

  • Oklahoma were three guys.

  • I thought maybe you get a little later.

  • That could turn out to be good pass rushers once or in the league.

  • Yeah, I don't disagree.

  • I really like Rumph and I think he's gonna continue to get bigger and stronger.

  • And he's athletic and he loves the game.

  • You know, he's comes from a good bloodlines, but But yeah, I think rump of those guys to me in terms of where you're going to get him makes a lot of sense.

  • Yeah, yeah, I would say, Yeah, somewhere in Day two.

  • Well, maybe this at least alleviates the need for the Cardinals to potentially reach for a pass rusher early in the draft as J.

  • J.

  • Watt, despite not being quite the same player he was earlier in his career as a three time defensive player of the year.

  • Still an incredibly impactful guy, we want to circle back to Mels Mock.

  • Last week we teased the opening of it and got into a couple of trades because for the first time ever, Todd Mel has introduced trades into his mocks.

  • What went through your head when you saw that mock draft live for the first time with three trades in the first round, 15 years of stubbornness finally, you know, just falling apart.

  • That's what went through my mind.

  • I mean, I love melon, you know, I love melon, we always talk about it, and he's been my biggest supporter.

  • But the one thing I couldn't understand and I finally broke the truce, he always says, we had a handshake.

  • I don't believe we had a handshake.

  • And I broke the truce with him a year ago, and I made some trades and he got all four, all flustered.

  • And then he finally said, This year, what was it?

  • My Christmas gift paper that I was allowed to make some trades right?

  • And now here we are.

  • And he's making more trades in his first round mark than I am in my first round mark.

  • Wait till my three point oh comes around.

  • That's the back end of the first round.

  • Middle of the first.

  • I'm gonna have, like, 16 drinks, but I do think it will be interesting to see when you come up with your 3.0 on Friday ties.

  • You're obviously going to project trades and we look at now free agency beginning and what March 17.

  • That's gonna really complicate matters in terms of team needs, where players go, What happens with the Shawn Watson?

  • Looks like if he's traded, where is he going to go?

  • Yeah, we think he might be traded.

  • But what teams can end up with the Shawn Watson we have Jeremy Follower on the door, email show Saturday, guys.

  • He brought up Denver as a possibility.

  • So who knows?

  • But a lot of impact from free agency and trades are going to have a direct effect on these mock drafts.

  • That's the frustrating part because three agencies later this year, right?

  • And usually I would have a Mach four or five days before free agency started.

  • Then all of a sudden, you know, 10 of the teams with the needs that I had and projected we're off the off the table.

  • And so it'll be really interesting.

  • Especially with the quarterback market five potential quarterbacks going in the top 15 to 20 picks this year, and all the veteran quarterbacks in the movement that we could see.

  • That's what to me is going to be the most fascinating part of this draft.
