  • - What's up, spinheads?

  • - Hi guys, my name is Ben Bayouth.

  • I'm the creator of Blark and Son

  • and the voice of Blark.

  • - And my name is Adam Aseraf

  • and I'm the executive producer of Blark and Son.

  • - I appreciate you adding probably before alcoholic.

  • - I will be in my room until I can legally emancipate.

  • - I think it's time we do some

  • father/son bonding activities, hmm?

  • - The earliest versions of Blark and Son

  • I always thought about my grandfather.

  • - Blark, father of son.

  • - He would tell stories about his life over and over again.

  • - Winning you from that Kansas City zookeeper

  • in a game of Freeze Tag

  • was the best thing that ever happened to me.

  • - Didn't he kill a tiger or something?

  • - He was in India on set - - Because he was (indistinct)

  • - Espinka! (loud crashing)

  • (evil laughter)

  • - During their downtime, he's "I wanna go hunt,

  • be right back."

  • (Adam laughing)

  • And these people are like, "Excuse us,

  • there's a tiger plaguing our village.

  • Will you kill it for us?"

  • It happened, he showed me the skin.

  • - Aha! (soft groaning)

  • - This hyperbole of a person

  • is the main inspiration for Blark.

  • - Argh! (gun shots firing)

  • - And our relationship had a really big gap

  • between us and interests.

  • - I'm at Tit's Deep helping my boy, Urinal, level up.

  • - The computer guy?

  • - But you know, he's this incredible builder

  • and I've always been interested in making things

  • so those are places where we connected that inspired me.

  • And I am not as dirty as Son, but I'm definitely a nerd.

  • - Booyah!

  • Game, set and match.

  • - Gosh, it's like five years ago now,

  • Ben, he's like, you know I have this idea.

  • And then I remember that drawing you showed me.

  • You can just see the odd couple nature of it.

  • Ben had Blark's voice too,

  • he's like, "Kinda sounds like this."

  • - I'll never forgive this.

  • - I sculpted Blark.

  • One of my good friends, Jake Corrik, sculpted Son

  • then Adam and I worked away

  • on all the writing side of things.

  • - That's when we went to Stoopid Buddy.

  • - Packing up the old outline now,

  • and I'll be at the agency in 20 minutes.

  • - They liked it enough to just say, you know

  • we'll make it together.

  • - Oh (beep), homey.

  • - On the set of Blark and Son,

  • somebody walking in would immediately feel

  • like they're a giant, you know.

  • Our sets and our puppets are one-third scale.

  • You could actually walk through the sets

  • because they're raised off the ground.

  • It can be kind of surreal but really fun.

  • It's like being in a fort as a little kid or something.

  • When thinking about the engineering of the puppets

  • for this show, I wanted to do something

  • I hadn't seen a lot of.

  • Puppets typically have been made out of something

  • called foam latex, it kind of wrinkles and stuff

  • if you really compress it,

  • and if you stretch it too far, it'll tear.

  • Silicone is a much different material

  • that has a ton of benefits visually.

  • One of which translucency, the elasticity is umatched.

  • Because of that we can push them to do things

  • other puppets wouldn't do quite as easily.

  • - Argh!

  • - You can give these looks

  • that almost feel like their live action cartoon.

  • - But they are very, very heavy.

  • - So heavy we're forced to do every single scene

  • line by line.

  • - You think I'm a loser, don't you?

  • (crew laughing)

  • - [Cameraman] That was great, one more,

  • right away, right away.

  • - You're gonna see Adam saying,

  • "Great, let's try that sentence again,

  • but on the word "and" bulldog the camera,

  • which in Blark and Son world means that Fledge,

  • or Blark, goes like (Ben blabbering).

  • - Wai-wai-wait, please don't leave me.

  • - This show at it's core,

  • it's a family show about broken families.

  • - Fine, (beep) (beep) fine, (beep)

  • I'll do your stupid son swap.

  • - [Adam] Stacey is this unbelievable narcissist

  • who has this adopted child,

  • and even Regina, she gives us little clues

  • into what her life is at home.

  • - A little girl (soft farting)

  • should never have to scooter through a drive-through!

  • - But the whole cast is kind of one giant family.

  • They're all so far up each other's ass.

  • - I'm going to go (beep) your mom.

  • - And we wanted to make sure

  • that it made people feel something.

  • We thought, wouldn't it be cool

  • if by the middle of an episode, you're like,

  • "Man, I feel something for this lump

  • of grotesque silicone that's on the screen right now."

  • Our favorite moments in Season 2,

  • that's a great question.

  • Episode one, at the very end Chimpy has escaped

  • into the backyard and they see the backyard

  • blowing in the wind,

  • (Son trembling)

  • which leads to Son in episode eight

  • stepping into Chimpy's clearing, ready to battle him.

  • - I think it's when Son kills Mr. Pockets.

  • - I was going to say that.

  • - You know, we always talk about the loss of innocence

  • and to actually kill your innocence?

  • - No matter how many times I've seen it,

  • which is at this point, hundreds of times

  • the feels come out and that's fun for me.

  • - I'll never be oh...

  • (loud gunshot)

  • - Ah!

  • - [Adam] Thank you guys so much for watching.

  • - Go ahead and put it on loop on YouTube

  • and sleep with it on.

  • And eventually you might see a longer cooler version

  • of Blark and Son out there.

  • - I love you, Son!

  • (upbeat music)

  • (digital tones)

- What's up, spinheads?
