Essentially, from the beginning of his time as Donald Trump's vice presidential nominee, his running mate, Hey, was kind of an ambassador to more establishment Republican Party.

He was a career politician.

His role was to put a smoother face, sometimes on Donald Trump and trumpism.

And then that went throughout Donald Trump's presidency right up into election night, where if you remember Donald Trump stood there and launched this invective, that's a harsh rhetoric.

This is a major fraud in our nation.

Mike Pence stood up there, and he didn't say that.

He said the right to vote has been at the center of our democracy since the founding of this nation, and we're gonna protect the integrity of the vote again.

He smoothed over the rough edges of Donald Trump.

A zit got closer and closer thio the day that Joe Biden's election victory would be certified by Congress.

It became, as that date approached, the focus of Donald Trump and his supporters because they believed that Mike Pence could step in and throw out the votes.

And I hope Mike is going to do the right thing.

I hope so.

I hope so, because if Mike Pence does the right thing way, win the election On January 6, he proceeded.

Thio simply served his ceremonial role as those votes were being counted, and that made him a traitor in the eyes of many Republican rank and file who support Donald Trump.

And, it appears, in least in the eyes of Donald Trump himself.

Mike Pence was clearly the target of some of these rioters who entered the capital.

They were chanting his name.

They were calling for him to be hung.

They were saying he needed to be held accountable, and they were citing Donald Trump's tweet roughly the same time blaming Mike Pence for not doing the right thing and throwing out these electoral ballot.

Vice President Pence was still in the room near the Senate chamber.

It was not until 2 26 that he was evacuated to a secure location.

So what Democratic impeachment managers were trying to do here is there, citing Mike Pence as an example off a public official whose very life was being threatened, whose family's life was being threatened by these insurrectionists.

In a way, they're they're painting.

This is more than just a partisan witch hunt.
