  • -Welcome to "The Tonight Show." -Thank you very much.

  • -I'm happy to have you here especially this week,

  • because you're a brand-new daddy.

  • You had a baby. -I am, yes.

  • [ Cheers and applause ] ♪♪

  • -Has life changed completely? -Nah.

  • [ Laughter ]

  • -I mean -- -Not really.

  • But I do more breast-feeding than I used to.

  • -Yeah, no, see, you're doing it wrong.

  • You always call me before you do these things.

  • Alex, I wanted to say something quick,

  • because I follow you on Instagram.

  • Well, here's what happened. -Yeah.

  • -I started following you and I go,

  • "Maybe this isn't him doing this,"

  • because this first one says,

  • "When you on the red carpet and your arms

  • because you're a hunk and you know it."

  • -Mm-hmm.

  • -I go, "I guess that's kind of funny."

  • I guess it's, like -- Whatever.

  • That doesn't feel like Alex, 'cause you're pretty humble.

  • -Doesn't sound like my voice?

  • -You're pretty humble, I've got to say, got to be honest,

  • every time I've worked with you.

  • But this is where I stopped following,

  • 'cause I go, "This is probably not you."

  • That's a nice picture of the cast.

  • It says, "Love my cast, especially Pete

  • Doesn't sound like you to me, but --

  • -It doesn't? -No.

  • -I'll -- There's a reason for that, Jimmy.

  • It was like a Thursday at the show.

  • I think it was the first time Mulaney was hosting.

  • And Pete was like, "Dude, you're not on Instagram?

  • What the hell?"

  • And I was like -- Very spot-on Pete right there.

  • And he goes -- I was like,

  • "Yeah, it's not really my thing."

  • And he was like, "I'm starting an account for you, dude."

  • So the only people I follow are, like,

  • writers and people associated with the show

  • -Oh, really? -Yeah, yeah.

  • My wife was using my phone and was looking at Fran Drescher

  • I don't think it was intentional,

  • -I would do the --

  • Well, pitch-wise, I did the same bit in pitch meeting

  • for a solid two years.

  • My pitch -- The bit that I did, basically,

  • was based on something my dad used to do with my friends

  • when I was growing up.

  • Like, my best friend, Ted, would come over,

  • and he'd be like, "Mr. Moffat, do the name thing."

  • And my dad would be like, "Alright, Ted.

  • Well, if you ever opened a bakery,

  • you could call it Ted's Breads.

  • You ever run a cranium shop --" like those exist --

  • "you could call it Ted's Heads."

  • -Yeah. -And we would howl laughing.

  • Whoa! This is gold for an 8-year-old.

  • -Oh, my gosh. Improv genius. -Yeah. Yeah. Right?

  • -I like these jokes.

  • -I do, too. They're good dad jokes.

  • And, so, I -- Based on that, I would do a pitch

  • that was associated with the host's name with a product.

  • It's also like Seth Meyers did Jon Hamm's Jon Ham.

  • Remember that? So I would do something similar.

  • So, like, I've got one for you if you want to hear it.

  • -Oh my gosh. This is amazing. -Great.

  • -It's like I'm hosting "Saturday Night Live."

  • -Yeah. -What's your idea, Alex?

  • -Mick Jagger, you mean? -Yeah.

  • -Yeah, have you heard of this guy?

  • -Good. Then that will help for this.

  • The problem is, we just had our floors waxed,

  • and I'm always slipping around as I'm gyrating, you know?

  • -Oh. -Does that ever happen to you?

  • -Oh my gosh. A great pitch. -Yeah, thank you.

  • I wish that there were a product out there

  • that you could attach to your socks or your feet

  • so that when you're doing it, when you're, you know,

  • gyrating back and forth, your feet don't slip around.

  • Some sort of claw that you could put --
