  • an all Star game that the N B A is going to have, or at least is reportedly going to have that.

  • It sounds like nobody wants to be part of, should they have it then, Well, you know, look, I've been a person that said I don't think they should have it because I, you know I wouldn't want to put myself in that situation considering Atlanta's Open the scene I've seen in the land in Miami.

  • But end of the day, this is about money.

  • There's also twenty percent of player salaries that have been kept in s Square, right?

  • I think that's why you have the union that's willing to say, Hey, we're willing to have a game.

  • I think not every player is of that magnitude And I think a lot of players, you know, the LeBron James of the guys you're getting paid thirty, you know, twenty five, thirty million dollars a year.

  • A lot of guys you know you want to find ways to recoup Some of that money has been left in escrow due to this pandemic and things that have been happening in the negotiation with the leak, so I think we need to have sponsors.

  • I think when you have networks that you have to work with because that that feeds into your revenue have to get forces, everybody, they may not like it, but at the end of the day, you don't hear anybody said they ain't going.

  • You're LeBron James said.

  • I'm gonna be there physically.

  • I won't be there mentally But LeBron James said he was gonna be there.

  • You heard John to say I don't like it.

  • Well, I'm gonna do my job because this is about something bigger than just whether they want to be there or not.

  • Now it's It's interesting to me with the stance of the league has taken um, in amount of games that have been postponed, that they would go ahead and do something like this.

  • But let's not Let's not confuse ourselves how money makes the world go around.

  • People are going to their jobs every single day during these tough times because they have bills to pay and there's bottom lines that companies needed revenue generate and this is the same with the leak.

  • It's gonna be a but obviously it's gonna be about revenue and everybody's gonna want to blame the league, saying the league's being, uh you know, obviously, that he's being greedy, but it's about the deals that they have in place already with the With the networks that said, Well, wait, no, no.

  • I'm Turner.

  • No, we're supposed to have an All Star game, so if we don't, I get that money back, and he's like, Well, we can't give you that money back.

  • We needed to pay our players, so we got to do it, and we'll figure out a way to do it.

  • And so I'm sure they will, uh, and you know, when it happens, certainly it'll happen under a different type of scenario than we're used.

  • Thio.

  • When it's a whole weekend, we have bart back.

  • Yeah.

  • Thanks, Alan.

  • Listen, if you wanted to get all the question, then all you have to do is say so you don't have to hit the button.

  • You have to hit the mute button.

  • No, me Guilty.

  • Actually.

  • J and J and I both conspired.

  • We just figured they want to stay on and not get uncomfortable.

  • So I thought I e not gonna try, and I gotta put all my habitual lines stepping stuff right at the front of the center.

  • I can't even ease him into it, you know, I mean, I just gotta go straight.

  • No, e Every Tuesday towards the end of our segment, my armpits are just sweating.

  • Right When you think you take me to the threshold arm has sustained and sweat.

  • That's how I feel every time we in our conversation.

  • So So tell me what?

  • Following up on what Alan talk about.

  • Whose side are you taking, Chris?

  • Paul.

  • A brick?

  • Well, I mean e mean, look, if I'm looking at this, you guys know, obviously I love business as a business.

  • This is what you need to dio um, you know, this isn't that like I do?

  • Alan, this isn't just about, you know, the LeBron James.

  • This is about the health of an organization that just lost hundreds of millions of dollars last year.

  • Right?

  • And owners, uh, even you've been talking to a couple owners to what extent they're going through in order to get fans at minimum, You know, that's ten percent capacity.

  • Six percent capacity.

  • Try to bring friends and doing sniffing dogs, whatever the, um the you know, Kobe test our, um, to the extent they're going through, they're trying to recoup a lot of this revenue that was lost, and they're trying to maintain their relationship.

  • So you know it.

  • Look to whom much is given.

  • Much is expected.

  • I know it puts everybody in an uncomfortable situation.

  • Um, I think players should have absolutely optionality to opt out if they deem it to be worthy.

  • But, I mean, we also have guys that are playing the seasons.

  • Um, I think it's a tough fun.

  • I think God's gonna have to do what they have to do.

  • So when you look at it from that standpoint, if you're LeBron or your own organization that wants to protect your number one asset, which is your star player, are you gonna put them on a minutes restriction?

  • Are you gonna let some of the younger players play or lesson you?

  • Are you gonna be selective about who plays?

  • And then you talk about the quality of the game?

  • What's that gonna look like?

  • Because LeBron has set the tone saying, Hey, you know, I don't I'll be there.

  • But I won't be into it.

  • And then you heard Yonas piggyback right off of that.

  • Whatever LeBron says, I'd say what kind of leaders that But anyway, so you know, that tells you the type of effort that he's gonna put in Follower.

  • But you know, what does that mean for, like, the quality of the game?

  • Well, I mean, I mean, look, I think the game is going thio hurt because of that.

  • But I can also play Devil's Advocate and give you the reverse side of that argument.

  • I can actually make an argument that sending all my top players to one secure location is actually protecting my assets more than I'm hurting my ass.

  • Because what happens is everybody goes on a seven day or five day All Star break.

  • I don't know where guys air going.

  • I don't know who their surrounding themselves with.

  • I don't know what kind of parties air going on.

  • You know, that guy's air hanging out or going in the cities and things that they're doing on their flu time.

  • I do know that you know twenty plus of the world's best players from my league will be an isolated bubble to a degree, we hope, with measure security with words, a lemon pepper J.

  • That's two words for you that they put in their listen.

  • It's like pukey you'd be calling me.

  • You got these dudes.

  • Sit up there, you got You got dudes that's addicted.

  • You're gonna put him right there by the source.

  • Come on, man.

  • Magic City right there.

  • I hear you.

  • But I'm just I'm telling you, the devil's absolutely meant from a couple of owners that I've spoken to and how they and how, um Adam Silver and company in the league or handling from security measures around these facilities in which these athletes are going to be at.

  • So, look, I hear what you're saying on that side of it, but, you know, I don't know let me cut the way chicken thing ever happens because something happened in the bubble that happened in Orlando.

  • That happened when we was able to leave.

  • Which kind of makes that argument potentially even stronger.

  • Thanks for watching ESPN on YouTube for live streaming sports and premium content.
