  • 1400 receiving yards, most by a rookie since the merger in his last two years, meaning his last season at L S U and then his first in the NFL.

  • He's caught 199 passes for almost 3000 yards and 25 touchdowns in 31 games.

  • He's Justin Jefferson.

  • Who's with me on the Goodyear hotline?

  • Justin, this is Greeny.

  • Thank you so much for the time.

  • How are you today?

  • I'm good.

  • How are you?

  • I'm well on those numbers.

  • When you hear those numbers, let's try and put those into context.

  • Because I was asking my friend Ryan Clark about you a little bit earlier this morning and l s u legend like yourself, and he was saying, asked just in it to go back to the beginning and he was telling me how you were not a highly recruited player and and how people thought you were too skinny and all of that.

  • Can you take me back to that too?

  • When you were coming out of high school and most schools didn't want you and how that has driven you to become the player that you are now?

  • Um, it's crazy and the funny.

  • The funny part about it is, um, you know, I was just a freshman with 34 years ago, so excuse me.

  • Um, actually think about that.

  • It's crazy is amazing.

  • Um, you know, coming in at at 1.

  • 25 not being a top recruit, not being the biggest player out on the field.

  • Um, you know your confidence level.

  • Get a little low.

  • Uh, you know, you're not you're not sure if you able to play on this big time D one level like this, or, um you know, a lot of stuff goes through your head, but you just gotta trust the process.

  • Trust, um, you know, the weight room and trust everybody in that organization.

  • And, uh, you know, I did that.

  • And, you know, after after 22 years going into my junior year, um, I got toe 1 95 and got fashion.

  • Got stronger.

  • And, you know, that's when I was ableto to showcase my talent.

  • Uh, so I mean, all of that definitely plays a part, and you just gotta wait for the opportunity.

  • But that is I know from having talked to so many athletes over the years.

  • That's something that stays a chip on your shoulder.

  • And then you come out after a monster season at L s.

  • U.

  • And you were the fifth receiver taken in the draft the year you came out last year.

  • 22nd overall.

  • What did that make you think?

  • Um, that was crazy for me.

  • Um, you know, me, Just having a year that I had, um, and me even getting to the national championship in, you know, all of these things that I did, uh, last year.

  • Um, And toe still, you know, beef pick fifth out of all the receivers on the drive.

  • Um, you know, that made me mad.

  • Uh, you know that?

  • That made me question what?

  • I was going wrong, uh, during my my college career.

  • So that just made me want toe to go in and, uh, do better and destroy anybody.

  • So, um, each week, I just kept that chip on my shoulder.

  • And, um, I'm just trying trying to be the best that I could be.

  • Well, you certainly seem to do it.

  • Proving a lot of people wrong on the pro level greeny and Justin Jefferson who was with me.

  • I want to ask you about a former teammate of yours?

  • Because when you were at L S u u and Jamaar Chase were the superstar receivers there two years ago on the team that won the national championship.

  • And then he opted out this past year for L S U.

  • So the football world hasn't seen him for a year, But I hear a lot of people talking about him as potentially the first receiver off the board in this year's draft.

  • Give us a quick scouting report.

  • Tell us how good your your former team mate Mark Chase is gonna be.

  • Oh, he's gonna be amazing.

  • Uh, he's going to do whatever he needs to in order to be, um, a prime time player for for whatever team that he gets drafted for.

  • Um, yeah, we didn't seen we haven't seen him for for a year, but, um, he's still the same person, you know.

  • He still has that that swagger to his game.

  • And, um, he's definitely ready to come in and be a reliable source.

  • Uh huh.

  • Tow whatever team that he's on.

  • So I'm excited to see what he has.

  • You know, hopefully he didn't lose a step.
