United Nations human rights experts have called on Uganda to rein in violence.

Security forces ahead oven election next month.

In that January 14th vote, pop star Bobby Wine has emerged as the strongest challenger to President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for more than three decades.

But Wine, whose real name is Robert Golani, has complained that as support for his movement has grown, so too has violence from security forces.

On Sunday, Wine said one of his bodyguards was killed when military police ran him over while winds convoy was taking a wounded journalists to seek medical help.

Military police said the bodyguard had fallen from a speeding car.

N experts said they were gravely concerned by election related violence and a quote increasing crackdown on peaceful protesters, political and civil society leaders on human rights defenders.

 The statement also called for charges against political opponents and activists to be dropped.
