Ron Rivera, the head coach of the Washington football team, issued this statement this afternoon.

I met with Duane and informed him that we would be releasing him.

I told him, I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways.

We wanna thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward.

As for Hoskins, he then released his own statement via Twitter.

My time with Washington has unfortunately come to an end, I think the team and fans, for the opportunity to play for the team I grew up rooting for.

I take full responsibility for not meeting the standards of NFL quarterback and will become a better man and player because of this experience.

More certainly an interesting turn of events and a quick demise.

What more can you tell us?

Well, you know Ron Rivera, who's in his first year as coach of the Washington football team.

He's also in charge of football operations as well.

Hey, informed the media this, uh, this morning that the team would either be going with Alex Smith if he's physically ready to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in that key NFC East game Sunday night.

Or it would be Taylor hi Nikki, who came off the bench to replace Haskins Sunday.

Who now who joined Kyle Allen?

UH, Alex Smith.

I'm talking about Heinecke as somebody who replaced a bench, Dwayne Haskins, and we know that.

What happened a week ago after the Seattle Los, when Dwayne was stripped of his captaincy.

We're going out to a strip club being caught on video.

Five for $40,000.

But since he's been there has been a level of maturity.

He's been fined more than once, and, uh, it did not for brought me very You brought me here.

Comes from a military family has also been a former player.

Been a Super Bowl coach.

Uh, and I know that this summer, when they didn't have a NAWF season, I'll say this.

He gave uh, Dwayne Haskins a chance to prove himself.

He said.

I treated him like I did Cam Newton.

I said, You're gonna be the quarterback because we don't We don't have a competition.

So for 11 weeks, Duane Hanson's got all the number one reps He got to be the number one quarterback.

He started the first four games, and there were just too many levels of in maturity.

I'm not talking about on field stuff.

That's certainly counts that the dots connected up to last week toe where Romney very just felt like I can't do this anymore.

And so, before he met with Dwayne Haskins, Ron Rivera met with the owner, Dan Snyder, and asked for permission to release him, and Dan Snyder gave him that permission.

That is significant because it was Dan Snyder who handpicked Dwayne Haskins as the 15th pick in the 2019 draft because of some close relations that they had, uh, in that region around Washington, D.

C.

And, uh, it was time to move on for Grand Rivera.

And, uh, that's a done deal.

Right now.

There's no going back, all right?

Yeah, absolutely.

Listen, this is about play right when you watch Dwayne Haskins on the field, it wasn't a progression of his game.

He wasn't getting better.

He didn't seem to have more pocket president.

He presents.

He didn't seem to be a better decision maker with the ball.

And, you know, usually if you're a first round pick, they give you an opportunity to play through that.

There was a perception of Dwayne Haskins, as you heard more mentioned about not being a professional, being immature, not being a great decision maker, not showing the type of work ethic that starting quarterbacks are supposed tohave.

It seems like Rod Rivera clean that slate and gave him my opportunity to disprove some of those things, and obviously he did not.

And when you have a situation like Dwayne Haskins had after losing to the Seattle Seahawks, being caught on video without his mask on, uh, wherever he was doing, whatever it was he was doing, you can't have that.

You can't play bad and then not conduct yourself in the way that says you're mature enough to handle the position of being the starting quarterback.

And so Ron Rivera has made this decision to move on.

Yeah, our seaman way both.

No, man, this is hard to do, like for what Dwayne Haskins just did to get fired as as a first round quarterback.

When you've been given, this was this was so much bigger than just on the field.

Poor performance, man like whatever he showed them in that team meeting room in the quarterback room, on the field during practice.

Whatever those things were, that's ultimately the deciding factor.

And I mean, look, you could look at a tale of two different rookies, right?

I know has has been there two years now.

But look, they just took the sea off of his chest and put it on the newest first round pick in Chase Young.

So what does that tell you about the swing in this locker room, Right?

I mean, is that it's not about age, man.

It's about maturity and what you're bringing to this organization.

And the one thing about Ron Rivera, he is a players coach, like like, like, more just said he played.

He gets it, man, He gets what guys want to do and what they're about.

He is not about trying to control everybody.

This guy gave, gave Haskins the benefit of the doubt, and he kept proving himself wrong.

You hope that happens, get himself squared away and back in it and find a new team because to do it this quickly in Washington minutes, it's a shock and a surprise to me.

that you could go that fast.

The other piece that's crazy is guys.

There's only one week left in the season, So so think about exactly point that you're trying to make if you're the worst in football team.

If you're Ron Rivera, you could have waited right.

You could have gotten this thing to the whole season and made this decision.

But they felt it was so important to send this message in the show that a certain level of professionalism and behavior will be needed for you to be a part of this football team where there are moving in the future.

And I think that's the most important part that I would take from this, that you need to do it the right way or you won't be a member of this football team.
