While I think that that's really important, those films need to exist.

I think that we also need to have space to just center the every day.

And so I loved that about this movement.

But how do you know if you love something?

E Guess when it's the only thing that matters.

E felt that we were underrepresented in films from that time, or films that depict that time and just showing our humanity.

You know, it's always about the trauma that we go through the civil rights movement, or if we're shown in the past, it's often just about, you know a traumatic or negative event, and I just wanted us to be able to live as humans and walk around.

You know, when I looked at old photo albums of the black folks in my family, they tell a very different story of black life.

You know, obviously they all survived, because otherwise you and I wouldn't be here, so I wanted to, you know, I wanted to really kind of highlight our humanity and just tell us story where with where we, you know, our existing.

During that time, we have interpersonal, uh, dramatic incidents, not just external forces that are, you know, that are affecting us.

I just wanted you to be happy even if I couldn't be a part of your life.
