  • everything.

  • Actually, that's not true.

  • I like the first half in a lot of ways.

  • I thought we competed hard and and made some good plays out there.

  • And then the second half was really obviously the dam broke and we were not competitive.

  • I think the thing I was most disappointed in is we just had two good days of practice with our execution, working on getting into offense and making hard cuts and reads, and we did not execute much of anything.

  • It was just kind of scattered and disorganized.

  • And so I'm disappointed in that, and I've gotta take the blame for that.

  • I'm the head coach, and if we can't execute offensively, then you know I've got I've got to stay on them and continue to work and try to find ways that we can get better organized and look like we're a five man unit were just scattered.

  • Right now, it just feels like we're a Siris of moving parts.

  • Steve Woody.

  • No, it's always difficult to go to a new team.

  • It's just the way it is in this league.

  • New terminology, new style of play.

  • New teammates.

  • Uh, it's only been to two games.

  • Eso, you know, way played two of the best teams in the league.

  • You know, we didn't find any rhythm at all to the game, so it'll shake out over time and Kelly is gonna be fine.

  • Andrew Andrew will be fine.

  • Those guys air proven players in this league.

  • And, you know, again, I've got to do a better job of putting them in positions to get comfortable, too.

  • That's definitely going to help us, but it's not gonna fix things.

  • It's Draymond will make us better defensively and he'll help us get organized.

  • But we have a lot Thio sort through, and it's going to take more than just his return.

  • The stuff that we're working on in practice and executing in practice.

  • We're not executing in the game, so if it doesn't translate, then I've got to do a better job of of helping it translate.

  • And and that's the problem right now, we're just not able to get into any sort of organization at either end of the floor.

  • You know, we've got to defend to start the game and yeah, that's gotta be our identity this year.

  • We have to be a really good defensive team if we're gonna be any good.

  • And obviously we have.

  • We haven't done anything defensively these first two games.

  • So that's where it starts.

  • And then, you know, getting organized offensively into sets that we're comfortable with.

  • That's that's what I've got to do with my staff.

  • I mean, yeah, that's all part of it again.

  • Um, West were a bunch of moving parts, and we're trying to become a five man unit while we're on the floor.

  • So we haven't figured out anything in terms of rotations.

  • Obviously, we played, uh, Mike Mulder a little bit more.

  • Jordan played more minutes tonight, so we're absolutely We'd we'd like to get shooters on the floor, but we've got to do it with the right balance and, uh, try to strike that balance so that we can function as a five man unit.

  • As I said, what would you pinpoint as the biggest defensive problem right now?

  • Well, defense is all about being connected.

  • Um, you know, we you have to be, um, together as a five man unit.

  • You gotta communicate, and we're again.

  • We're just throwing this thing together.

  • So it's hard when you when you don't have all five guys thinking alike and rotating and playing together.

  • So you know the abbreviated training Camp James and Drummond's absence?

  • Uh, it means that just the basic sort of structures and functions of our defense air not in place and, uh, it z just the way it is.

  • Nobody's gonna feel sorry for us, obviously.

  • So we've got to continue to work on those things.

  • Steve.

  • Another real nice night.

  • Are you surprised with how much confidence he's showing at 19 years old?

  • I'm not surprised.

  • Actually, this was the guy who we interviewed, you know, when we're preparing for the draft and his confidence came across when when we interviewed him and his confidence comes across every day on do you can see why he's got a ton of talent.

  • He's a skilled big man.

  • He's got a lot to his game and eso we're going to continue toe work with them and help them learn the NBA game and understand the nuances and feel things.

  • And and then we've got to continue Thio figure out the best ways to use them to is what he's doing in the first couple games and and some of the struggles you're having elsewhere.

  • Maybe change, You know, almost where he's at in the pecking order offensively and maybe having to do some more stuff with him.

  • Yeah.

  • I mean, it's only been two games, Anthony, So I think we have to feel that, you know, the biggest thing was for us these first couple of games was just to get him out on the floor for as long as he could take it.

  • We didn't want to overdo it.

  • So I think he may have played about 25 minutes in both games.

  • Um, you know, as he gets more comfortable with his conditioning following the absence, his minutes we're gonna bump up.

  • You know, this this season is, uh, you know, it Z about giving him the experience that he needs to grow a za player eso that we can get better as a team.

  • And he could be one of our building blocks.

  • So, um, but within that, there's gonna be a lot of growing paints.

  • Um, you know, for probably more for our team than for him.

  • You know what?

  • James is so talented that he's going to make plays.

  • He's gonna put up numbers, but all the stuff that we're talking about that leads to winning games.

  • Uh, you know, defensive, Uh, basically, calling signals defensively, calling coverage is recognizing patterns that can on Lee come with.

  • Ah, lot of time on the floor.

  • So we're gonna have to live with some of those growing pains, but, uh, we could do that and still win games and be competitive, and I'm confident that we're going to do that.

  • Aziz, we get going.

  • Uh, Steve, are you surprised it all at how good Wiseman is shooting the three.

  • When did you know that you could use that as a weapon?

  • And is that change?

  • Any idea of how you might use them going forward?

  • Hey, looks very confident shooting it.

  • Uh, obviously, we didn't have a whole lot of tape to watch, you know, from his college career.

  • And I think he only took 13 in college.

  • So, uh, yeah, I would say it's it's surprising that he's, uh he looks so smooth out there, and, uh, it's a great sign.

  • So we want him.

  • We want him shooting that shot.

  • We don't want him getting very comfortable out there, and that will help us use them in different ways.

  • It is there a way to sort of assess what the impact that's Kellie and Andrew struggles were having on staff?

  • Well, you know, we we've gotta we've got to be balanced offensively to take some of the pressure off Steph, you know, it laid part of the second quarter.

  • No way were scattered, but we just kept, kept running high, drags with James and staff, and you could see three impact that it made.

  • James gets going downhill, steps coming down.

  • It's it's good stuff, but it's also exhausting and eso to do that for 48 minutes is not possible, Onda.

  • What we need is a better balance where we confined execution doing that with Andrew coming downhill, doing it with Kelly because James is capable of putting a ton of pressure on the defense with that dive on, then finding our patterns within that finding our groove.

  • So we're again.

  • We're a brand new team thrown together a couple weeks of practice, just played to the best teams in the league.

  • So, uh, it's looked bad and I have no doubt we're gonna get a lot better as we go, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.

  • Are you in a situation where you think teams are going to continue to?

  • That's focus on Steph anyway.

  • But Kellie and Andrew is shooting the ball.

  • Um, it's almost as if they're just saying Okay, go ahead and, you know, see if you could get a shot.

  • Don't worry about Steph today.

  • At least it's just two games, though.

  • Both guys have been pretty consistent three point shooters in their careers mid thirties.

  • And it is it's not.

  • It's not about assessing.

  • You know how well they're gonna shoot.

  • It's it's assessing our functioning offense.

  • And can we get a comfort level in an idea of what our identity is, what we're trying to accomplish?

  • That's that's what we're trying to get to, uh, talk about patterns.

  • Uh, Steve, are you more concerned about shot selection or spacing right now and how to fix the all of the above?

  • It's all tied together.

  • Execution as a five man group.

  • Hard cutting, good screening.

  • Good spacing leads to good shots on.

  • Don't.

  • We're not close to that yet.

  • So a lot of work ahead much.

  • I would like to ask you what is the main problem right now that you would like to resolve as soon as possible.

  • And with Draymond Green to return How how different?

  • We're gonna be the face off the Golden State Warriors.

  • Draymond will help us get organized offensively and he will help us tremendously defensively.

  • But as I said, we have a lot of other things.

  • Thio grow and get better going to take much more than Drummond's return for us to be be a competitive good team.

  • Thank you, Very Christmas, everybody.
