  • Welcome to Tokyo Tuesday.

  • If you're a regular viewer, welcome back today.

  • We're talking cheap camera gear right here in Akihabara e.

  • I wasn't even planning on making this video today, but e o So you're saying you need three cameras?

  • E don't worry.

  • Alright.

  • Moderately exciting news.

  • Just landed a gig to shoot a concert.

  • But I'm gonna need an extra camera because I've only got two and I need a third.

  • So that's what we're gonna do today.

  • I already have one in mind.

  • The trick is just finding it cheap s.

  • So Step one is to find the actual camera.

  • I do like to buy things in a physical shop whenever I can.

  • Sometimes I do purchase online when it's much cheaper.

  • But Japan has a great price compare site That not only helps you find the cheapest option, but find the ones that have physical shops as well.

  • There are three criteria that I wanna meet.

  • Number one, low price number two, If I can't physical store and number three, I want to find a place that actually has their own insurance policy because I tend to break my gear.

  • So we're gonna start with the search.

  • So there it is right there.

  • This shop here has none in stock.

  • Plus, it's not even in Tokyo.

  • This wink shop right here it's in Tokyo and they have a shop.

  • And if you look over here, they do have warranty options.

  • And just like that, we found a shopping.

  • It seems to meet all the criteria, so we're gonna go check them.

  • And since the shop is in Akihabara, it gives us the option to take a look at some other camera stores, including some that should be avoided.

  • Additionally, I'm going to sneak in a small hack here on how to get stuff cheaper.

  • Even a major camera stores.

  • So just bear with me.

  • Alright, guys, let's get going quick.

  • We're in Akihabara, an area of Tokyo known for its availability of electron ICS and everything like that.

  • There's no shortage of Elektronik shops here, but there are a couple that you should avoid one of the ones that I would recommend avoiding is behind me here.

  • So down over here we have this way he Tokyo station way have this place.

  • While the shop does have pretty friendly staff in a wide range of used camera gear prices are not ideal.

  • Some of the used lenses in there are actually pretty close to their original prices.

  • You can usually find it on, like Yahoo Auction or eBay for about half of the price of what you would find it for in that store.

  • Yeah, with Akihabara being such an electron, ICS focused area.

  • Ah, lot of people come here assuming that it's gonna be really easy to find camera gear or used camera gear.

  • But then they find out that it's mostly computers and electron ICS and stuff like that, not so much camera stuff.

  • So a lot of people would default by going to places like Yo Dobashi camera, soft map or even big camera.

  • I personally would recommend against this.

  • The main reason for this being is that the prices are very, very inflated.

  • One of the reasons for this is that they all have point card.

  • So you get about 10% of this back in points now, a little bit of a hack.

  • More often than not, if you tell them that you're willing to forfeit the points, they can actually decrease the price by the amount of points that they would give you.

  • So if you don't have a point, Carter, you're not interested in the points.

  • That's pretty useful.

  • Additionally.

  • Ah, lot of them do.

  • Do the tax, Frias.

  • Well, so if you're just a tourist, get tax free.

  • E.

  • Guess that brings us back here.

  • So the shop that I found is pretty close to here.

  • So we're gonna go this way.

  • E admit it feels a little odd to be walking this bridge right now.

  • Love this bridge.

  • Yeah.

  • Also citing out about the bridge.

  • Right over there beside the bridge.

  • There's a tiny little hidden shrine.

  • It's really cool.

  • Check it out if you're in Tokyo, All right, back to the camera.

  • Search along right.

  • It looks like the shop should be right around here somewhere.

  • E found it.

  • And actually, I know this shop.

  • I've been to this shop before.

  • Okay?

  • All right, now we're onto something.

  • Now that we found the shop, I'm gonna jump in.

  • I'm gonna grab my camera and the lens as well as my five year accidental damage insurance that I need.

  • And then I'm gonna show you guys some places to get used camera gear on the cheap.

  • Now There are a few things that you're gonna wanna watch out for with this shop number one, The opening hours.

  • It usually says from about 10 30 to 7, But some days like today, they do change it up to six PM Second thing is is it's cash only.

  • So watch out for that.

  • Now.

  • For those of you who are like, I don't need a physical shop, I could just do it all online.

  • Definitely.

  • You can't.

  • In fact, the cheaper shops had this same gear that I'm buying today for about 10 bucks less each.

  • Also full disclosure.

  • No, I'm not sponsored by this shop.

  • Or buy a cock cock or anything like that.

  • I wish I was camera gears and cheap, but the concerts got that covered.

  • Mission accomplished.

  • Bonus.

  • The staff are really friendly.

  • That's huge to me.

  • Because if I'm gonna go all the way out to a shop to buy something, the customer service is gonna be on point.

  • They were really nice.

  • All right, now we're under the used good.

  • So for used goods, there's three places I want to show you.

  • One might be a little anticlimactic.

  • One is really good.

  • And one is really cool, So let's go.

  • The first one is borderline obvious, but a lot of people don't think about it.

  • Let's book off.

  • Book Off is probably my least favorite of the three options, but sometimes just sometimes you get something decent in there.

  • There's also a shop called Hard Off, which can also be found in the back streets about the Hobbit Googling E.

  • Thea.

  • Other shop can be tricky to find, but there is a sign for it right up there a.

  • Again.

  • I'm coming to the physical shop, but the shop has one of the best online used.

  • Or, as they say in Japanese Chucho services, I'll link envelope.

  • Yeah, the shop has a huge selection of cameras and lenses, and it pales comparison to their online selection.

  • Everything's also put into categories based on its condition, which is pretty awesome.

  • The last shop we're going Thio Last shop is a little goofy, but it's by far my favorite.

  • It's not just cameras, either.

  • On fair warning, regular viewers already know this place.

  • You waited this space here right under the tracks.

  • I loathe thing hidden within these hallways, which, by the way, are amazing photography spots on their own.

  • Some of the best pictures I have seen of Tokyo are just like the staff sitting at the desks in these shop.

  • They're gorgeous photos.

  • But hidden within these walls is a shop that I absolutely love in orderto find it.

  • You've got to go to the second floor.

  • Oh, the excitement I feel every time I come around those stairs and I see this, Look, this plane, check this out.

  • You can see it's not just camera gear, and the camera gear that they do have tends to be much older.

  • But I just love this little shop we owe to mention that anytime I've ever needed a cable for anything ever.

  • I just come into this little shop right here.

  • So there's a little bonus for you.

  • Do you think ending on a disclaimer this fairly even scratches the surface of amazing places and that you have it or find cheap camera gear If you know anything, definitely leave it in the comments below.

  • But these air just my favorite places, places that I have used for the past five or 10 years.

  • Guys don't forget to give that like button some love Thank you so much for joining.

  • You knew the channel.

  • I'd love to have you.

  • And we'll see you guys again real soon.

  • I forgive you.
