  • English heritage, looks after about 400 properties around England and includes some iconic structures like Stonehenge, Dover Castle on Hatreds Wall on our site state back from early Neolithic, Away through to the Cold War.

  • We're here to tell England story right from the earliest time up to the present day.

  • So looking after our properties is really essential because it's through conservation on access that we can really bring history to life.

  • We're starting to see some impact of climate change, the biggest risk areas around our coastlines.

  • But we're also seeing impacts in our gardens, and we're seeing impact in terms of rainfall.

  • This is something that is starting to happen now.

  • It's not just looking to happen in the future.

  • One of our biggest challenges is Hearst Castle on the South Coast.

  • It's a fantastic 16th century Henry.

  • The eighth period fought, which extends out in this island on we're seeing quite a lot of coastal erosion there at the moment, with risk of increasing climate change and sea level rise we're looking at is quite a lot of challenges for the future.

  • We need to act now because we know that while England's past has been shaped by its climate, So will its future way have to put plans into place to ensure that our properties are well cared for and start to be able to adapt to a changing climate?

  • Britain's energy needs are set to double by 2050.

  • So we in English heritage, like so many other conservation charities, need to use tools such a smart meters to reduce energy waste on bring the country's outdated energy system into the 21st century.

  • Having a smart meter is really important for us because we need to understand just how much energy we're using.

  • 60% of all our energy use just comes down to 10 properties, so if we can reduce our energy there, we can really make a difference across the whole organization.
