  • His a North America correspondent will grant the result of Georgia's recount, is in and confirms what we already knew.

  • Mr.

  • Biden won the state.

  • Still, Donald Trump will almost certainly not accept that result nor any other.

  • He still contests is now a little over two weeks since the election was held in.

  • This was supposed to be the moment President Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, showed the proof for their campaigns.

  • Unsubstantiated claims of fraud.

  • Good afternoon.

  • I know crimes.

  • I can smell them.

  • You don't have to smell this one.

  • I can prove it to you 18 different ways.

  • I can prove to you that he won Pennsylvania by 300,000 votes.

  • I can prove to you that he won Michigan by probably 50,000 votes.

  • Meanwhile, the winner of this race, Vice President Joe Biden, is growing increasingly dismissive of President Trump and his outlandish claims of wrongdoing What do you think the president is doing?

  • What are Americans witnessing here?

  • I think they're witnessing incredible irresponsibility, incredibly damaging messages being sent to the rest of the world about how democracy functions.

  • There was also a timely reminder of the real world consequences to the political debacle.

  • Thanksgiving, perhaps America's most important holiday, is fast approaching, traditionally a time for families to gather and break bread.

  • We're not talking about locking down.

  • We're talking about intensifying the simple public health measures that we all talk about.

  • Mask wearing, stay, ping distance, avoiding congregate settings.

  • The legal wrangling will continue for some time yet, but the frustrations are growing that they're preventing the president elect's transition team from properly preparing for office amid the greatest public health emergency the U.

  • Has seen in a century will grant BBC News Washington Well, I've been speaking to our North America correspondent, Peter Bows as well, just about how long it was going to go on before President Trump would acknowledge that he lost and Joe Biden won.

  • Well, I think it's going to go on for a little bit longer yet.

  • But if it isn't already clear, I think it is becoming increasingly obvious even to some of Donald Trump's most ardent supporters, certainly mainstream Republicans, that it's over that Joe Biden will be the next president.

  • Yet we get senior Republicans some coming out, seemingly supporting the president.

  • But others like Mitt Romney saying that what the president is trying to do, essentially to overturn the result of the election is unconstitutional.

  • And then we had that news conference just been hearing about from Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer, when we had hoped to hear some of the hard evidence backing up the claims of the president that the election had been stolen.

  • But we didn't hear anything like that.

  • In fact, this news conference was widely ridiculed, and as far as Georgia is concerned, it does seem to be quite categorical.

  • Joe Biden did in fact, win on the first count on on the recount.

  • But the president's team isn't accepting that day within hours released a statement talking about the false reporting that Joe Biden had been declared the winner in Georgia.

  • False reporting as they see it, and in the statement went on, It said, Georgia simply recounted all of the illegal ballots that have been included in the total.

  • We continue to demand that Georgia conduct an honest recount, which includes signature matching.

  • We intend to pursue all legal options to ensure that only legal ballots.

  • Oh, counted.

  • So how long can this go on?

  • Well, December the eighth is the deadline for the individual states to essentially verify the results.

  • And then on the 14th of December, the Electoral College meets to cast its votes and formally make Joe Biden the next president, right?

  • So I just wonder them, Peter, what is left for Donald Trump?

  • Because I was just looking at the list.

  • Arizona.

  • The lawsuit was rejected.

  • Pennsylvania.

  • It was a bit thio throughout.

  • Certain number of votes that was thrown out itself have given up on Michigan.

  • I mean, the options are so minuscule now, aren't they?

  • Yeah, tiny in Wisconsin, he has paid for a partial recount in just a couple of counties.

  • Interestingly, these are heavily populated counties, but they're also heavily Democratic as well.

  • Again, just looking at the numbers, it seems virtually impossible that things are going to change, especially looking at a Georgian.

  • How little things change there in the state of Wisconsin, Very, very unlikely that it's going toe flip the state and it seems what the president is trying to do there.

  • It's simply make a point and to prove, at least, as he sees it, that there has been to some extent, some election fraud if those cases can be if they emerge as part of this very partial recount.

  • But it's a very, very slim avenue, and, of course, that is just one state, and that wouldn't win him the election.
