  • Accusing the lawmakers of acting like Children, Diamond, during a New York Times conference on Wednesday, said Quote, This is childish behavior on the part of our politicians Just get it done.

  • Declining to blame one side over the other, he said the two parties should split the difference between the amounts they want to devote to coronavirus relief.

  • The White House Republicans and Democrats have been at odds over the new coronavirus relief package months after a $600 weekly payment for unemployed Americans ran out.

  • So it's time for our two parties to sit down together and hash out a compromise on a bill that meets the needs of the American people.

  • The issue came up again in Congress on Wednesday as U S Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said he and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republicans to bipartisan relief talks.

  • McConnell blamed Democrats for blocking earlier Republican efforts to approve $500 billion packages, which Democrats have called inadequate Republicans targeted proposal would have renewed that lifeline for the hardest hit small businesses, but again Democrats blocked it.

  • Diamond also advocated higher taxes to pay for stimulus spending, but said hikes have to be done in a way that does not harm economic growth.
