  • -Welcome back. I'm talking to Whoopi Goldberg right now!

  • -Yay!

  • -I want to talk about Stephen King's "The Stand."

  • I'm excited about this.

  • Can you set up what it's about?

  • -Yeah, well, basically it's about the world

  • getting hit by a plague...

  • -[ Laughing ] Oh, my gosh. -[ Laughs ]

  • ...that was created by the Navy or the Army or something.

  • And it kills a whole bunch of people,

  • but it doesn't kill everybody.

  • And as you go through, you start to realize that

  • there's a little bit more going

  • than just, you know, the plague killing folks.

  • It's a battle between good and evil.

  • And Alexander Skarsgard is the bad guy,

  • and I am Mother Abagail, the good one.

  • And I'm 109,

  • which is just a year or two older than what I actually am.

  • -[ Laughs ] No, come on now.

  • -But, yeah. But it's kind of great.

  • And I wanted to do it.

  • I wanted to do it when he first did it.

  • -Oh, yeah.

  • -It was really great.

  • It was Molly Ringwald and --

  • -Oh, yeah, that's right.

  • -A whole bunch of great people.

  • -Did you audition or talk to Stephen King about it?

  • -Well, what happened was I was in the middle of another movie

  • and couldn't do it.

  • And I realize now, you know,

  • that it probably would've been wrong

  • because I would've been in my 30s or something,

  • and there were enough people around who should've been

  • really mad at me if I had gotten it.

  • Then when I heard they were doing it again,

  • I was like, "Um, can I be in it, please? Please?"

  • And they were like,

  • "Yeah, actually, we were coming to you."

  • It's like yeah. -That's right.

  • "You are coming to me. That's right. See?

  • I knew you were supposed to come years ago, but that's alright.

  • You take your time. You come when you're ready."

  • -You come when you're ready, and so it's really -- I mean...

  • I hope people like it.

  • I had a great time. -Of course they will.

  • It's Stephen King. It's Whoopi Goldberg.

  • Come on. Please, we need this! -We do.

  • -We love this. And we do. We need this.

  • And, pal, I love you so much. Congrats on everything.

  • Thank you for remembering everything.

  • You're just so thoughtful every single time.

  • My wife sends her love to you, and my kids, too.

  • We love you. My thanks to Whoopi Goldberg.
