  • Justin Fields.

  • Make no mistake about it.

  • Green is a great quarterback, 56 touchdown passes and only three interceptions, and one of those was on the receiver at the end of the Clemson game last year.

  • So this year, no interceptions.

  • He's up 87%.

  • He's in his second year now.

  • He's not a one year guys getting those more of those starts now in year two, and he's racking up the numbers.

  • But they say 12 coming out of high school.

  • There are some.

  • They're gonna like Fields, but only takes with one team at the top.

  • I mean, you don't have to have everybody agreeing that it's Lawrence.

  • Some will say Field doesn't mean that.

  • Hey, Justin Fields is gonna be equally as good, if not better.

  • Once you're in the NFL, he's right there.

  • I do think come late April, Trevor Lawrence goes number one.

  • Justin Fields goes number two, and then we have a few more quarterbacks to be evaluated thereafter.

  • To see in this year, where it's easier to play quarterback greening without hostile environments, crowd noise, communication, not an issue.

  • I'm a little hesitant to move up quarterbacks this year, but you gotta put Zach Wilson BYU up there and you gotta put Mac Jones in the mix to be a first rounder.

  • Okay?

  • Also all really good and interesting, and we'll see how that plays out.

  • Now.

  • One of the other phenomenon that has taken place here, maybe something of an unintended consequence off the rookie salary cap, is that it's much easier for teams to give up on quarterbacks now.

  • Used to be, you draft a quarterback in the first round, you make a mistake.

  • That's a five year problem.

  • Now, teams they're ready to move on much more quickly.

  • So let me ask you, in this context the New York Jets, for example.

  • They just use the third pick in the draft 2.5 years ago on a quarterback.

  • The New York Giants use the sixth pick in the draft last year on a quarterback.

  • Do you believe if those teams wind up in position to take these quarterbacks at one and two Lawrence and or Fields that they should do it?

  • If they're one and two?

  • Sure.

  • And I think that's not not a criticism of Donald or Daniel Jones, who's made a lot of progress.

  • Even though people get the turnovers, He's got 21 starts.

  • They've been in every game but won.

  • Should have won a couple more.

  • Maybe then they did.

  • The receiver catches the ball defensive line blocks a little bit better.

  • But Sam Donald's case?

  • We saw what he did late last year.

  • When you see what he does, when he gets some help, he's had some issues.

  • Now with the injury, it's just unfortunate that these two have to move on because of Lawrence and Fields going 12 then somebody is gonna get a quarterback.

  • It's gonna be a new affective starter down the road, but I think the Jets certainly move on from Sam Donaldson.

  • Question.

  • Trevor Lawrence is grade is significantly higher than what Sam's was coming out of college when he wasn't even the consensus number one or number two quarterback with some people coming out that year s.

  • So I think when you look at Daniel Jones, same thing.

  • But if you're picking after that, you don't take trade Lance over these quarterbacks or Mac Jones or Zach Wilson.

  • It's on Lee, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.

  • That would be above and beyond what Sam Donald Daniel Jones would be if you're picking three.

  • You know the quarterbacks going 12 You think another position.

  • You want to think about a quarterback at that point.

  • Given 10 15, you don't think about any of those quarterbacks.

  • You stick with Sam, Donald and Daniel Jones.

  • That's not the case.

  • Obviously, the Jets gonna be picking one?

  • Probably Trevor Lawrence.

  • Obviously, the Giants.

  • Probably not to maybe Jacksonville.

  • So the Giants will probably be out of that situation.

  • Even worry about taking a quarterback with having two wins now and maybe a couple more coming up.

  • All right, now, stay with me.

  • I want you to be a part of the conversation as I bring the rest of the crew in Dan Graziano.

  • Let me let me turn to you as my insider here.

  • What do we know about the plans?

  • Let's use those two teams as examples.

  • The Jets and the Giants, as far as what they would do relative to their quarterback situations and the guys they have their if they find themselves in those situations.

  • Yeah, I mean, I think largely undecided at this point for a number of reasons.

  • Let's look at the Jets.

  • We don't know.

  • Are they going to move on from the head coach?

  • We think they probably will that they're gonna move on from the GM.

  • We think they probably won't who's making the decision?

  • How has Sam Donald played between now and the time the decision gets made?

  • And where are they picking?

  • If they're in the one spot of the two spot and they feel like they have a generational guy there, then maybe they make the decision.

  • Allah the Cardinals a couple of years ago with Kyler Murray and then with the Giants, Daniel Jones is on an audition for the rest of this season.

  • I don't think there's much doubt about it, Mel says.

  • You know, people look at the turnovers.

  • How can you not look at the turnovers?

  • There's two or three of them every single game s O, that he has to stop that and or show the ability to get that under control in order for this is a coaching staff that wasn't there when he was drafted and they could be changing GM.

  • So the coaching staff likes him, but they need to Seymour before they're convinced that he is the guy going forward.

  • If they don't and they end up picking one or two.

  • Absolutely.

  • They could take one of those.

  • So, to be clear, we're talking about Lawrence is a generational talent and fields a Z, maybe half a step below that are.

  • See, what do you do if you're sitting where the Jets or the Giants are?

  • Are you cutting bait on your guy and drafting one of those two?

  • I agree with Mel totally.

  • If you get the number one of the number two pick and you're the jet to the Giants, you have to move on to these two quarterbacks.

  • I very much like Male.

  • I've always said that I've said this since these two young men, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, that is entered into the entering into college, that they were very close, you know, like I said, I got to coach them both or be around them both in high school going into college.

  • And I thought that Justin Field what was amazing, but I didn't understand all the things that Trevor Lawrence has that makes him the perfect prospect, and I think that both of these guys will be stars on this level on the next level in the NFL, and you've seen enough of Sam Donaldson for me.

  • You've seen enough of Daniel Jones.

  • If you can get one of these two players coming in the draft in April, now that I want to change up the team that we're talking about for a moment, Mel, I think you'll find this conversation interesting.

  • But, Dominique, I'm gonna put the question to you.

  • If the Dallas Cowboys should somehow find themselves in a position to take one of those two guys bearing in mind that the first or second pick in the draft will have so much less guaranteed money on their contracts, then Dak Prescott would be due next year, just under the franchise tag alone Nick.

  • If the Cowboys should find themselves there, what should they do?

  • Yeah, I mean, I think they absolutely should consider it.

  • I don't think that the money matters nearly as much.

  • I don't think the money matters nearly as much as you say it, as you seem to think it does.

  • But I think that the difference between having a very good quarterback in a future Hall of Fame quarterback is enormous and the prospects of your team so I would understand Moving on from Dak Prescott If you think that one of those two guys is that if you think one of those guys is Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes.

  • Yes, if you have any thought in your mind that they are anything less than that signed back up, trade away that top to pick and figure out your roster from there.

  • Brian looks disappointed.

  • I know I feel that way, too.

  • But Mel, I wanted to come to you because this is not something I've had a chance to ask you.

  • You know the situation again.

  • Joe Burrow has less guaranteed money in his entire contract as the number one pick last year than the money that would be due to Dak Prescott as on a franchise tag next season alone.

  • What do you think the Cowboys should do, Mel if they find themselves in that situation?

  • That Prescott, a heck of a quarterback, is you're not talking about a young quarterback who is unproven is still going through those rough starts and that inconsistency that's a heck of a quarterback.

  • And you could get an awful lot.

  • You could get a tremendous amount in return for a pick that represents Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.

  • That's got to be under consideration here.

  • We're talking about Sam.

  • The Jets are not staying with Sam.

  • Donald may not even get a first round pick in a trade you keep hearing.
