  • - Second homeowners, pensioners and investors

  • are now facing tens of thousands of pounds more in tax,

  • as our chancellor is trying to raise 14 billion pounds

  • in an additional tax review.

  • This is to make up for the 40 billion pound hole

  • that's been placed in our budget

  • because of the lockdowns, the senseless lockdowns

  • due to the bad data that was presented to the prime minister

  • by Cambridge University only weeks ago.

  • And this is what no one understands,

  • furlough and lockdown and people getting 80% of their wage

  • must be paid for at some point in the future,

  • and guess who pays, low income and middle income people.

  • It's not the rich that are gonna pay this,

  • it's you that are gonna pay for your own furlough.

  • And that's what's just not very well understood right now

  • by the public is when they get these big chunks of benefits

  • being handed out by the government,

  • they think it comes from some all powerful big bank account,

  • but it doesn't.

  • It comes from our citizens

  • because there's nothing happening right now in this country.

  • Everything around me is locked down and closed,

  • there's no one in the streets,

  • and therefore there's no economy.

  • There's no money being made,

  • there's no livelihoods being made,

  • which means at some point we're gonna have to pay for this.

  • And a furlough check is a great temporary measure,

  • but it means we're all going to have

  • to pay for this going forward,

  • and taxing the citizens is the worst thing you can do.

  • We're trying to get out of the worst recession

  • in the last 100 years, any taxation is gonna hurt business.

  • And that's why one of my primary focuses on my first policy

  • as your next mayor of London is to get London back to work.

  • And that means we have six-month holidays

  • when it comes to congestion charges,

  • and when it comes to business rates.

  • We cut them to zero,

  • and that's the only way we can promote people

  • coming into London to spend money,

  • we can promote getting businesses back to work

  • so we can barely salvage this economy

  • that's been wrecked by a government

  • that has shown no leadership,

  • made a disproportionate response to this virus,

  • and had total lack of science-based decision-making.

  • This latest lockdown, I've called many times

  • for the prime minister to reverse his decision now.

  • We know the data was wrong,

  • we know COVID cases are dropping,

  • we know there's no reason for us not to be working.

  • And yet every single day,

  • your taxes are gonna go up in the future

  • to pay for this current debacle.

  • Again, raising taxes is not the way forward.

  • I learned this in economics at MIT.

  • The worst thing you can do

  • is let the government try to take your money

  • and redistribute it to you.

  • What we wanna do,

  • what's gonna save our physical health, our mental health,

  • our young generation is to simply get London back to work.

  • It's why this city exists,

  • and it will solve most of our problems, it really will.

  • It'll get people busy again,

  • it'll decrease our substance abuse,

  • it'll decrease domestic violence,

  • it'll decrease mental health issues.

  • It'll allow people to rebuild their lives.

  • It's so simple,

  • and yet every single person in our government

  • is trying to do the opposite, including the current mayor

  • who has been crusading for this lockdown for months,

  • who wants to do it and will ask for billions of pounds

  • in an additional bailout next year

  • on top of the multiple bailouts he's asked for TFL,

  • the bailout he's asked for subsidised housing.

  • Again, this guy doesn't understand economics 101,

  • has never run a business in his life,

  • and that's not how you solve problems.

  • Please leave your comments below.

  • Tell me, do you think

  • we can tax our way out of this problem?

  • I really wanna hear your comments below.

  • Forward this video to someone

  • who might have some thoughts on it as well.

  • Again, my plan as your next mayor of London on May 7th

  • is to start putting these policies into place.

  • Again, get London back to work,

  • science-based decision-making,

  • let's put our health first,

  • our education first, our family first,

  • let's slash these rates for a six-month period

  • to get business thriving again.

  • And let's show the world

  • what a world-class city looks like.

  • Come on, let's go.
