  • Joe Douglas pretty definitive on Sam Donald.

  • And I don't think Andrew Barry was very definitive there on Baker.

  • Mayfield.

  • Well, first of all, I like Andrew Berry young, talented up and coming executive in the National Football League.

  • But what?

  • And he knows how to dance?

  • He's a Harvard guy, so he knows how.

  • Toe wiggle room, right?

  • First of all, he says he doesn't get involved in those type of narrative was not really a narrative.

  • It's simple and plain and clean.

  • If you listen to what he said, he clearly hopes that things continue to move like they have been moving for the first eight games.

  • With that being said to me, How I take it is, if it doesn't go that way, then you're not gonna make the playoffs.

  • So therefore, come the spring time in the off season when you have to pick up Baker Mayfield option fifth year option, you probably are not going to pick it up if they miss the playoffs.

  • I'm saying on record if they missed the playoffs and Baker Mayfield doesn't play as well as he's been playing for the first several games after the Baltimore game, they're not gonna pick up his fifth year option.

  • But what they will do is they will allow him to prove itself.

  • So when they get to that fifth year, if they want to negotiate a long term deal with them, they could do it at that time.

  • But they're not gonna lock themselves into guarantee money.

  • What happens with the fifth year option is it's only guaranteed against injury.

  • So if they pick it up in the spring of May of 2021 he's protected Onley against injury.

  • So if he gets injured that fifth year becomes guaranteed, they don't wanna lock themselves into that if they're not sure if he's a long term solution.

  • But what happens in these situations is the draft is in April, depending on what you fall in the draft, depending on what quarterbacks is there, how you set your board, the way that you're thinking who you're seeing in the springtime when you goto work guys out.

  • All that helps make that determination on whether or not you want to pick up that fifth year option.

  • Joe Douglas sounds like okay, Yeah, he's our future.

  • There was no I don't wanna get into the narratives, and it was just simple.

  • Sam Darnell's Our Future and we're moving forward.

  • That's what the way I took from both of those guys.

  • So it's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless.

  • Let's get straight to the point on the date of 2021 which is important.

  • Which is to say that if they have to make the decision in May, obviously free agency will happen before that.

  • And obviously the draft will happen before that.

  • So they do have some options to think about before that decision in May of 2021 comes about because free agency will hit in March.

  • The draft will hit in April and Andrew Barry, 32 years old, one of two black g m's in the National Football League.

  • He'll be able to see things from watch wider lens.

  • It's difficult to do right now.

  • We're in the midst of the season, but when they have to make that determination, ah, couple of very important dates will have passed.

  • But if you're looking for which statement is mawr definitive, neither statement is definitive.

  • I mean, it's because nothing is locked, nothing is guaranteed, Man said That's my future.

  • That's fine.

  • He said that now that doesn't mean he's going to say that in two months from now.

  • See, I don't I personally have never heard of general manager.

  • Anybody say he's my future and then look up in lie in New York City where they're gonna kill you if you say that to him and then you try to walk it back.

  • He we can't remember what people said two days ago yet alone you.

  • I will remember a statement where something like that let me let me let me say, Let me give you exactly what he said.

  • I think Sam is a Q B of the future, but everything and everything.

  • Also next eight games is about progress.

  • So here's my thing that the Jets, if the Jets do not show progress, and we find out that they're zero and 16 and you get a chance, say Justin Fields blows up or Trevor Lawrence blows up.

  • I know you have your opinion about what you think the Jets should dio, but if if ownership or somebody else all of a sudden says, Hey, here's a better option it is feasible to think that the Jets could use Sam Darnell's as trade bait to somewhere else and also draft ah, quarterback, depending upon how things play out.

  • So I think neither comment is definitive because it doesn't make sense.

  • If you're GM to lock yourself into anything, you always keep the door open for flexibility purposes.

  • Hate Thio disagree with you.

  • This you could disagree.

  • I hate to do it because the man said, and we could play the clip back Joe Douglas said.

  • He's not.

  • The eight games that he's seen doesn't change what he said about the future.

  • Evan, can you play that back?

  • Wait, I'm just saying so now we're taking everybody on face value Now I'm going to tell me we live in the world now because somebody tells somebody, says Douglass, the general manager on the New York Jets.

  • November 5th, he said, came out of his mouth.

  • Not mind.

  • That's fine.

  • I don't mind.

  • A lot of stuff comes out of people's mouths.

  • Doesn't mean that they can't turn around, have a different comment.

  • We live in a world where people say something yesterday and then they say something different tomorrow, talking about Joe Douglas, I'm not talking about somebody else.

  • I'm talking about the general manager.

  • General.

  • I'm just talking about this.

  • The general manager of the New York Jets.

  • I'm not talking about somebody else in another organization.

  • I'm not talking about somebody else in the world I'm talking about.

  • Joe Douglas, the general manager of the New York Jets, said this.

  • So let me pose this to you.

  • Have you ever heard of inflating somebody up so their value can go up?

  • So, like, my thing is, Wait, hold on.

  • So if I'm at the Po, if I'm at the Post Presser and somebody, If I were a GM and somebody were asking me about my quarterback, I would say something positive about my quarterback, even if I didn't like my quarterback because I would want to prop him up this way when any other GM came to me with the option for what a trade value could be, I'm gonna put him in the best position to put my team in the best position to get the assets that I What?

  • How do you know that?

  • Because all he said was the future.

  • He didn't say.

  • We love Sam.

  • Sam is playing balling out he didn't say that.

  • He said He's our future.
