from travel karaoke to dining experience
more and more options in japan are being specifically catered to individuals
this is the so-called okitorisama movement
which can be roughly translated as solo customer movement
more and more people are embracing a solo lifestyle
and many facilities are starting to realize the importance of ohitori-sama customers
today i will be showing you some of the best facilities and services in tokyo
specifically geared towards solo customers
let us start with a cafe
there are many different options you can choose from
probably the most peculiar type of a cafe is an animal cafe
here you get to spend your time with dogs cats rabbits even owls or piglets
you name it
i decided to go with the cat cafe where you get to enjoy the company of many cats」 while sipping on your coffee this specific one is located in ikebukuro and is called moca cafe
while sipping on your coffee
this specific one is located in ikebukuro and is called moca cafe
these cats literally ignore the crap out of me
they don't pay me any attention
they're like dude what do you want
we don't want to cuddle with you
this is the kingdom you know
and you were an unwanted visitor it seems
if the cats ignore you like they did me
you can still enjoy by choosing one of many available mangas
or you can bribe the cats into loving you by giving them cat ice cream
apart from animal cafes there are still many other options for solo customers
who are just looking for some quality alone time
my today's companion is also quite furry but it's definitely less responsive than the cats
even though i didn't believe that it would even possible but yeah it's moomin
welcome to moomins anti-loneliness cafe
this cafe is located in skytreetown solamachi
and allows its customers to enter the world of a cute fairytale character
MOOMIN. While moomin is a fairy tale originally based in Finland
it found a big fan base in japan across all generations
moomin cafe prides itself in offering their customers an opportunity to share their meal
with a MOOMIN to help them combat the feeling of loneliness when eating solo
mashed potato sand
berry sauce i'd like to know what that is
that's a very northern europe taste
they even have them this rye bread
this is not a real dry bread rye bread to taste like eating rocks
and now it's time to go have some fun and to be honest i cannot really think
of a better way to have fun in japan than karaoke
not just any karaoke this one is a one-man karaoke called wan-kara
and you get to enjoy karaoke in a complete privacy here
this is like a mini record studio. what??
i don't even know what all this is how do i
work with this thing i've never seen so many buttons at karaoke
welcome to ellie's podcast
now i need to figure out where i plug this in
oh yeah oh what
not bad okay time to sing
sorry i'm i'm just too excited
my original
it was quite horrible but so much fun
i like it so next song
after my memorable solo performance it was time to go get some food
i chose a family restaurant jonathan's
that offers okitori-sama seeds to their customers
many locals come here alone to enjoy a warm meal
study or even work remotely
of course i had to try it too
so this is actually first time for me trying this kind of Ohitorisama seat in the restaurant
there's this kind of notion that when you were going to a restaurant it has to be kind of a social event
especially in japan dining out or eating out is an important part of socializing
i'm sure that not all of the people feel very comfortable eating by themselves
but this kind of environment really makes it easy to get used to it
especially here like i'm literally in the corner
i have a wall in front of me and there's just like space to get out
but if this is like my little corner where i'm gonna enjoy my meal and chill for a while
i ordered some spring fair menu which is like grilled chicken with cheese sauce and bread
so let's try
it's pretty nice
actually better than i expected
eating alone in the corner
i decided to finish off with an afternoon tea at ”bed and book tokyo ”
this cafe /bookshop attracts their customers by giving them a place to doze off
while surrounded by dozens of books
on top of that they also provide affordable accommodation in one of their capsules
for those who decide to prolong their stay
lift my legs
like you can also go to manga cafe it's kind of the similar concept but you know to be honest i
was at manga cafe once and i didn't really like it because it made me feel extremely
lonely like it was so cold there the light was like that prison or like hospital light
this place has a totally different vibe to it
it's just built in a way that makes you relax immediately
and which ochirisama facilities have you tried
let us know your favorite
