  • All right.

  • You guys might know him as a 10 year veteran quarterback in the NFL.

  • Or maybe the baby alien on the Mask Singer.

  • We welcome Mark Sanchez.

  • What's up, Mark?

  • How we doing?

  • Thanks for having me, man.

  • Know what I think?

  • You don't get enough credit for Mark.

  • I'm gonna give you some credit right now.

  • Oh, boy.

  • The jets air so bad, people forget the last time they were good.

  • You know who the quarterback, Mr Moore?

  • I mean, I remember, but do you think you think you don't get enough credit for the last Jets quarterback that actually took the team somewhere?

  • I mean, I don't worry about it.

  • I felt it as a player on Ben.

  • You know, you just get shipped out somewhere else.

  • But nobody realizes that.

  • It's gonna take that long to get back toe, you know, even close to where we were.

  • And a lot of that was, you know, management and the type of talent they acquired.

  • Um, players like Darrelle Revis, Bart Scott.

  • You know Dave Harris And then the guys we brought in as free agents That really worked out well for us.

  • Braylon Edwards.

  • Santonio Holmes, Jason Taylor, LaDainian Tomlinson.

  • I mean, those were guys that really contributed and helped.

  • Our team gave us a veteran leadership way needed at that time.

  • And so it was.

  • It was a great run, but yeah, I don't I mean, listen, I love those days, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

  • Things were going well.

  • I got a three, almost four year old kid now, so I got a lot of other stuff going on.

  • I'm not worried about commiserating for football.

  • Me, too, man.

  • Three year olds or freaking handful, I'll tell you that.

  • Let's talk about some quarterbacks around the NFL.

  • Let's stick to the Jets.

  • One second.

  • Sam Donald, fellow USC guy dealt a bad hand?

  • Or is there a way for him to recover being on this team, the way this absolutely built dealt a bad hand.

  • But listen, they gotta get him some talent.

  • They gotta follow the Buffalo Bills model of drafting a young quarterback, letting him play early like they did.

  • And then you gotta acquire talent around that quarterback to make him successful.

  • Look what they've done in free agency with the fund digs, most recently, then also Cole Beasley, John Brown.

  • So they're giving him offensive weapons and firepower to play with.

  • If you don't do that, then I don't know what you know.

  • You can expect out of somebody like Sam Donald and even still, he's shown flashes of making big time plays and shown that he has the ability to lead a franchise.

  • Now, Uh, once the GM who drafted you departs from that team, I've been in that situation, and really there are no rules.

  • Anything can happen.

  • Anything goes, it's all you know, fair and love and war.

  • And, you know, he might just go to somewhere, go to another franchise that really values him as a player and builds around him, which would be great for Sam personally.

  • Hey, Mark, in a world of instant gratification, will there be fans and people calling for Trevor Lawrence?

  • If this season continues to go this bad and is that fair to the current Jets players?

  • Well, it's, of course, it's goingto happen because that's the next, you know, sexy pick that's available.

  • But it's the same rule, right?

  • I don't care how good your quarterback is.

  • He can only do so much.

  • It is the most dependent.

  • It's the toughest position in all of sports, but it's the most dependent on the rest of the group position.

  • In all of sports, right?

  • You need other players to make your job easier and that just it doesn't work like that.

  • If you put Trevor in that situation right now, Trevor's on a better team currently.

  • Then he would be if he got put on the Jets.

  • So that doesn't help his cause.

  • That doesn't help the franchise win games.

  • What helps the franchise is building around your young quarterback, whoever that quarterback, maybe let's stay in the A F C.

  • East to, uh it's to a time he's getting his first start.

  • Why do you think the timing worked out this way?

  • Do you feel like they all of a sudden think, Hey, maybe we could make a run?

  • What's the thinking?

  • You think I just It's still surprised me a little bit that I thought it would have been, uh, they would have made a change.

  • Maybe later in the year.

  • When they play, I think they go like jets.

  • They play the Jets like two weeks in a row after Week 12 or something like that and then play another crappy team and then the Jets again.

  • It was like this weird three weeks stretch with a by and that was like looked like the perfect time for Fitzpatrick.

  • Hey, you kind of drive the car until they're after that.

  • Hop in the back seat to a get in figure out the rest of the season now.

  • I mean, they're three and three, their competitive, but they're competitive with the guy who's playing okay, right?

  • He's playing pretty solid, so I don't know if they're thinking is this is the spark.

  • We need to get us another couple winds quickly and put us in a position to compete with the Bills and the Pats.

  • Maybe they feel the Pats are on a downward trajectory and this is their chance to strike while they're down and throw into it and see if he could make something happen.

  • But, you know, with the way things were shaken out in the A F.

  • C East, they really could compete.

  • It just seems like a weird and strange time to make a move like this.

  • So hopefully it works out and, you know, you know, people like us look stupid later on.

  • Hopefully for two.

  • And the Dolphins?

  • It works out that way.

  • I just I don't know if that's gonna be the case.

  • Mark, give me the mindset and give us the mindset of backup, quarterback versus starter because you've been in both positions when you're back up and you get a chance.

  • Is there a part of you that Thanks, man.

  • If I perform the way I know I can.

  • Maybe I'll give them some question marks.

  • No, 100%.

  • I mean, that's the way when Foles went down in Philly, that's what I was thinking as a player, like who knows what's gonna happen when Nick I can't worry about him getting healthy.

  • You want him to get healthy, you want him to play.

  • But at the same time, it's your professional responsibility to play well for the team and the guys.

  • And, you know, just like when I was hurt, Gino Smith moves right in and starts playing like your loyalty is to the team and to your profession of being ready to play.

  • So, of course, those thoughts flood your head like man.

  • If we start winning, there's no need to make a change back, right?

  • So whoever's in there, you know, they're trying to play.

  • And just like everybody else, they're trying to compete and win and earn themselves a job.

  • Let's talk about the rookie quarterback, class, borough and Herbert you like and what you're seeing.

  • I love what I'm seeing out of both of these players.

  • To be totally honest, I did not expect this much from Herbert.

  • Uh, you know, from for Borough, I thought he was just, uh you know, much farther along in his maturation process as a player, much farther developed as a quarterback because he's been in those situations at such a high level, where at Oregon, I feel like Justin Herbert.

  • He was just his quarterback.

  • Growth was stunted because of the constant change over at offensive coordinator and because they never really like, developed the playbook in a way and did the things that he's doing now in the NFL.

  • Which is crazy to think about, because if he could have done that in college, he would have been, you know, him and borough would have been the clear cut Heisman guys their year.

  • But Herbert, every time they changed over offensive coordinators.

  • It seemed like they just went back and watched the film from the year before and said, Okay, you know, he does the read option pretty well.

  • He throws on the run pretty well.

  • We'll just kind of do that and go from there instead of Hey, let's develop this guy.

  • Let's work on play action stuff.

  • Let's see if he can process all these reeds and still throw a catchable ball on third downs.

  • Let's see what our 3rd 3rd down package can be.

  • Let's explore some different options in the red zone and see what it can be.

  • Then throw.

  • You know, essentially throw everything on the wall, see what sticks.

  • Okay, He does this well.

  • Let's continue to do that and grow in other areas that he's not as good.

  • And that's really how you develop a quarterback.

  • And he seems to be developing just fine.

  • He's kept them in games, and the fact that Cincinnati's in any game right now is solely because of Joe Burrow.

  • I mean, he has barely any time in the pocket, and he's made some exceptional plays this year, so and he's taking some big time hit.

  • So he's trying to figure that out, but he sure looks good.

  • And he's, um he's progressing just fine.

  • Hey, Mark, when you're a hot young quarterback in the league that everyone's talking about isn't adjustment when you actually lose, Because I'm guessing a guy like you from the time you were playing as a little kid.

  • High school USC days, you're used to winning.

  • Is that a crazy adjustment?

  • When you go to the NFL, it's like, Oh, crap, Winning is not that easy at this level, right?

  • It's, Ah, harsh realization, just like injuries, you know, injuries or 100% probability, and so is losing you.

  • It zits difficult because you can't get usedto losing.

  • You never want to get used to losing.

  • But understanding that it comes along with playing in this league at this high of a level, essentially, you know, somebody like Pete Carroll and Russell Russell Wilson has adopted this.

  • They never lose.

  • They just kind of ran out of time, right?

  • If there was more time on the clock, that kind of points and end up winning.

  • So essentially, that's kind of where you have to put your mind frame on bond and compartmentalized these games.

  • It's never okay to lose, but in some ways it is on.

  • There's a very fine line in just accepting, losing and understanding how to deal with Mark.

  • Let's do some real quick takes market or not, I'm gonna throw some quarterback thoughts that you you let us know what you think.

  • Matt Ryan will be traded by the Falcons at some point this year.

  • I said that a couple weeks ago, which would be crazy if the Falcons do a fire sale.

  • I know that might be the best place for them to just start acquiring picks and all that, but Matt Ryan is quietly having an incredible year, and he's getting overshadowed by the rookie.

  • Quarterbacks were playing while by the Patrick Mahomes homes and Lamar Jackson's of the world.

  • But, man, he would be a huge pickup for, you know, I said the Cowboys.

  • As soon as Doc went down, I said, maybe they bring them into Dallas.

  • Or, uh, you know, if Cam went down for a long time or somebody goes down, you know, in in New England, or even Buffalo, a team that has a chance toe win right now.

  • Dude, go snatch him up quick and and see how far you could take it.

  • I don't hate that pick.

  • How about this Russ shoe in for the M V P market?

  • I mean, he's playing out of his head right now.

  • He's him and Pete Carroll.

  • When the head coach and quarterback are that compatible and literally speak the same language, you see the way they do interviews.

  • You see the way they interact with the players.

  • I mean, it's It's like the exact same person, just a younger and more athletic form.

  • Right in.

  • Russell Wilson.

  • This guy's making insane plays.

  • Talk about just running out of time, toe lose games.

  • I mean, they're like playing on borrowed time, winning these games in the rain against the Vikings.

  • I mean, that game was insane.

  • So these guys are there on one.

  • I would not be surprised at all if Russell Wilson wins the M V P.

  • 40 Niners could win long term with Jimmy Garoppolo.

  • Ooh, that's a tough one.

  • I feel like that's another landing spot, potentially for Matt Ryan, because I wouldn't mind.

  • I'm a Niners guy through this jersey right here is only as loyal is, uh, a duct tape over that you're the guy.

  • Put Gino Smith on the back of my journey in New York.

  • You are so that my mom cried.

  • Let me give you thanks a lot.

  • Let me give you one more.

  • How about this one?

  • Cowboys are loyal and end up keeping and sticking with Doc and paying them.

  • I mean, you'd love to see that in a vacuum, you know, in some sort of happy bubble.

  • Yes, but I mean, right now, essentially on it's unfortunate, but they really have all the leverage.

  • So Dax now gotta prove himself again.

  • He's got to prove that he's healthy and durable and then go out and have the same kind of year that he was having this year just to get paid again.

  • So I wouldn't be surprised if they franchise him.

  • But I don't know if they're going to sign him to a long term deal.

  • Unless, you know, they go in bull in a china closet and basically say, Hey, I know you wanted this.

  • You're gonna We're gonna have some serious contingencies based on that ankle and injuries for you to earn that money that you think you're worth and so, um, you know, it's it's well within their right to do it.

  • It's just you hate to see it happen.

  • That's just the way the league works.

  • Cool.

  • Well, Mark a pleasure talking to you, man.

  • I really I love catching up with you.

  • Last time I saw you was on a Monday night football trip to Mexico City, and I feel like that was five years ago.

  • Dude, doesn't it feel like that?

  • And that was just last year.

  • Oh, my goodness.

  • I know I will stay.

  • Well, man, and I will catch up to him.

  • Yes, sir.

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks.
