  • bang.

  • Something hit me and I thought, What what's that?

  • It was a burning sensation.

  • It was like I've been scolded by Kettle.

  • It was just agony.

  • Had never had pain like it was like somebody who possessed me.

  • I couldn't help it.

  • I was yelling Theme.

  • Kaiko was saying, What's wrong?

  • What's wrong?

  • I kind of just pulled out and I pulled these tentacles in my hand and I had one massive 1 12 inches inside.

  • My leg pulled up and I said something that stung me.

  • And he said, It's either a box jellyfish or Portuguese man of war.

  • If you start toe hallucinate or labor, breathe.

  • I've got to get you out of my head instantly said.

  • It's over together.

  • You finished seven and Mourning the pilot rang me and said, We're going tomorrow and I said, Well, what do you mean we're going tomorrow?

  • Apparently it's over 20 knots wind, which is very high.

  • You wouldn't go out in English channel over 12 on, he said.

  • Oh yeah, but it's getting worse later on.

  • We matter three in the morning.

  • This is 24 hours after landed 18 hour fly time zone difference.

  • I was two hours on the boat.

  • Remember getting changed, Ready to jump in on the pilots of what you're doing?

  • I said, Well, we're starting on.

  • We said, no, not until it gets light because of the sharks.

  • Remember seeing nine hours into the swim, I was three miles from finishing.

  • I heard him say on the radio He's gonna break the world record.

  • And then I started to go as fast as I could, and after three hours I looked.

  • I thought, I'm further away than I waas after nine hours, but I kept with it.

  • I thought, Don't let any demons come in and I asked.

  • I said, um, I further away than I was before and they shout over the tides.

  • The tides been against you for a while, but don't worry, it's going to change.

  • This is my my training partner.

  • I thought, I don't know where I believe him or not, but I'll just kind of take my time for a bit.

  • That's what he said, just just just kind of take off the gas and then went sideways for another two hours.

  • I've been five hours and then it starts to get dark on.

  • I remember what he said about at the start don't go when it's dark because of sharks now, normally, only a few people in the world have done this swim on.

  • They get them out of the dark because of the sharks.

  • But I was so close, he left me in.

  • We brought a clicker in with me to spot for sharks on to keep me safe on.

  • Then, within about five minutes that that he was in, I suddenly bang something hit me and I thought, What what's that?

  • And it was a burning sensation.

  • It was like I've been scolded by Kettle.

  • It was just agony.

  • I never had pain like it.

  • I kind of just pulled out and I pulled these tentacles in my hand and I had one massive 1 12 inches inside my leg pulled that off, but I was just instantly burning on.

  • The thing in this board is you don't want to yell or show weakness if you want to call it weakness or pain because they'll get you out so safety.

  • But it was like somebody who possessed me.

  • I couldn't help it.

  • I was yelling.

  • I said, Man, the Kaiko was saying, What's wrong what's wrong?

  • And I said something that stung May, and he said It's either a box jellyfish or Portuguese man of war.

  • If you start toe hallucinate or labor, breathe, I've got to get you out, he said.

  • And he was really worried.

  • Andi, bearing in mind, I was three miles from finishing.

  • I was gonna break the world record five hours ago, and now I'm going sideways now.

  • I've been stung by a man of war.

  • Everything got thrown in my head and my head instantly said, It's over.

  • Forget it, you're finished.

  • And so what I did was I thought, Let's make a deal with myself like I've done a lot the other times in training.

  • Let's swim for one minute.

  • Everybody could do something for one minute, no matter how much pain you're in.

  • That was my deal, so I tried to swim for a minute.

  • I could barely be flat in the waters in so much pain.

  • My legs were going down towards the sea bed, and every time I swam, I touch my stomach from the pain of it.

  • I stopped after 30 seconds, yelling again, and then I start to vomit for about seven minutes.

  • I finished being sick.

  • Carry on on.

  • I try another minute in the last 30 seconds again.

  • The boat is 30 m ahead of you get level with the bone.

  • When you level with the boat, just go past it.

  • Whatever you do from past it.

  • It was the hardest 30 m I've ever done.

  • Was 13 half hours into the swim and I dragged my torso basically like, you know, it wasn't even a swimming stroke at this point and I swam past them.

  • I sort of smiled.

  • I thought of grimaced to smile because I had this thing of what?

  • You smiling physically, you feel better.

  • So I try and smile through the pain.

  • I could hear them saying What's he doing?

  • Well, I think he's going to continue.

  • So I carried on and then my body went into shock and my whole body started shaking on.

  • I started visualizing anything.

  • Any motivational CDs.

  • I was very much into motivational stuff.

  • Pain last for a minute.

  • Success last for a lifetime and all those things going through my head.

  • And I said to the coca how long to go and it was an hour and I thought, I can't do a minute.

  • How can I swim in our?

  • I can't even do a minute on I thought, Yes, I can.

  • I'll count 60 strokes for an hour.

  • When I got to an hour, I said How long to go When he said 20 minutes and I did another 20 minutes, I said, How long to go?

  • Another 20 minutes?

  • This went on for 3.5 hours until finally I was faced with some rocks on the Kika, Said Adam, Follow may.

  • I should be or they're the beaches.

  • They said No, it's too dangerous.

  • Follow May I ignored him and there was a lot these rocks coming out the ground.

  • I scraped my leg on a rock.

  • I had blood coming out my leg.

  • I remember standing on this rock where I thought, I've got 10 m to go.

  • I've got all these sharp rocks.

  • You know, maybe I could fly over there or something.

  • How can I get there?

  • I didn't care.

  • At this point.

  • I just scraped myself over all the rocks and I got out.

  • I had ALS, these lacerations.

  • I had blood coming out.

  • My leg.

  • If you believe you could do it.

  • You can do it.

  • And I literally sat in the showers No baths or anything in the hotel when I was just literally shafted shower All night long I looked up, I lay on my bed and my body was shaking still with the pain and I thought the pain will subside but the achievement will be there forever.

  • So just think of them when this pain goes away.

  • What you've done, what will ever stop you again?

  • Remember on that last part when I was swimming in on what kept me going Part of what kept me going was I thought, what will ever stop me again in swimming.

  • Then I thought What will stop in my life?

  • Because a traffic jam on someone upsetting you is not gonna match up to a Portuguese man of war Stings losing feeling in your spine on nearly going paralyzed.

  • So that gave me complete perspective I don't wanna be remembered for Well, I could have bean this professional athlete and it never happened.

  • I think we all know you could make Aled excuse in the world.

  • But in the heart of hearts, why not just just go through it.

  • Step over that line.

  • See how capable you are?

  • Forget excuses.

  • We have one life.

  • I'd rather go for something and not achieve it.

  • Try really hard thing.

  • Just come up with excuses.

  • I always thought whatever happens, um, I ever gonna be too tired that I can't move my arm.

  • And I decided, No, I'm never gonna be that bad that I can't physically move my arms.

  • So all I have to do is just keep putting one arm in front the other and I'll get to my destination.

  • Life will throw you barriers.

  • But let's think how we can get around those barriers.

  • You can't every time.

  • You just gotta believe you can in your life, in your daily life if there's something you really want to do, But you're scared of it, Think.

  • Okay, let's just go for it.

  • Let's let's do the opposite of what our brain thinks.

  • Yeah, things aren't always gonna go right.

  • You will take something on.

  • You might feel embarrassed temporarily if you don't think you're good enough.

  • But you keep going or uncomfortable.

  • Whatever that emotion is, you're gonna get some of that is never gonna be perfect.

  • Straight away no one is.

  • But I'm telling you, you keep going with it, you'll get stronger and stronger and stronger.

  • The thing is, when you are broken, it doesn't necessarily last forever, does it?

  • Pains Gotta go away at some point.

  • So what it means to me is it's a process you have to go through to make you stronger.

  • Everybody goes through.

  • It is gonna come into your life.

  • You know, I'm ready for it.

  • At some point each day, there might be some little thing that shows you.

  • But you know long as you're ready for a long as you're prepared to go through it, then it'll change and it'll give your success.

  • You can achieve anything you want to in your life.

  • If you have that right, mind on, once you can face failure in the eye, then then you're indestructible, even from things that go wrong.

  • Azi long as you've got the belief and as long as you are prepared to find a way, whatever is necessary and that might be just thinking outside the box in it and think in a different way.

  • But yeah, without belief, you know.

  • But it's just so powerful.

  • And you could do anything you want if listen.

  • If I could swim seven and tougher social swims in the world with three operations on the knee, I was carried off cricket with a bad back about three shoulder operations.

  • It was a moment that I watched the film and I went and I put my ear piece down to the person next to me.

  • I said, I'm going to swim the English Channel And they said, What what you're talking about when I'm going to swim the English Channel.

  • So what's your movie?

  • Or is it even a movie?

  • Or is that guy who says Come and join that club?

  • Let's have a go together Whatever that is and Ugo are now be embarrassed.

  • Go for it.

  • Why is the worst thing that could happen?

  • Just keep out these things and it doesn't matter where you are.

  • It doesn't matter whether you're rich or poor or you've got two arms, two legs, you've got a brain, you got willpower, and you've got self belief.

  • And as long you've got those things.

  • But watch out for those emotional vampires.

  • Watch out for the people so you can't do it will be everywhere if I can write a book 76,000 words.

  • Not being a reader not being a writer, You can do whatever you want to in life.
