  • Oh hello, Michigan! I'm Stephen Colbert. Do you want to vote in the 2020 election?

  • Of course you do! Everybody knows Michigan is the smartest

  • state in the nation! Well I'm going to show you how because it's time for part

  • 15 of our 50-part series: Better Know A Ballot. Tonight, the

  • greatest state in the nation: Michigan! "The Votin' Michiganders!" What makes

  • Michigan the greatest? Well did you know Michigan was admitted to the union in

  • 1837 and is known as the "Great Lakes State" as well as the "Wolverine State?"

  • Because when Michigan gets angry, it shoots adamantium claws out of its

  • mitten. Another fun fact: Michigan is one of just

  • 50 states that have been selected to vote in this year's presidential

  • election. So here's how you can get started voting

  • in Michigan right now. This is general information for how you

  • can vote early and by mail. Check out

  • betterknowaballot.com for more information on

  • all the links you need. The link for Michigan is below.

  • First, make sure you're registered to vote. You can register online;

  • just use our link. The online deadline is October 19th,

  • so do it now. Once you're registered, you can request an absentee ballot.

  • Again, you can just use our link to get there. Carefully fill it out,

  • sign it and either mail it, email it or hand deliver it to your local clerk's

  • office. You can also apply online. All ballot

  • requests must be returned before October 30th, but if you want to

  • make sure to get your ballot in time to vote, do it now. Okay when you

  • get your ballot, fill it out carefully, sign where

  • indicated and mail it to the return address

  • provided on the envelope. You can also hand deliver it to a

  • dropbox or your local clerk. Your ballot must be

  • postmarked or hand delivered by November 2nd, but

  • the U.S. Postal Service recommends sending it before October 27th, so play

  • it safe and do it right away. Or, if you want to

  • vote in person before election day, you can cast an absentee

  • ballot at the clerk's office between September 24th

  • and November 2nd, or go to the polls on election day November 3rd.

  • Wear a mask, wash your hands, go vote. So there you are Michigan. Know another
