  • Hello and welcome my name's Ashdubh I'm joined by AmyLee33 and Speedy and we've been asked

  • by English Heritage to come over to Bolsover Castle and do a spooky tour.

  • Did someone hear that? There was like steps.

  • What the hell was that?

  • Welcome to Bolsover Castle, reputedly the most haunted castle in Derbyshire. I understand that you have come here because you have a

  • curiosity to learn more of the occurrences that are said to happen nightly within these

  • walls. You know what they say of curiosity...

  • Nice and easy. There's no rush. We've got all night.

  • There are visitors here who for whatever reasons they have cannot leave. There

  • are servants on the stairs busy at their work conducting themselves up and down. There is

  • one especially, a maid, who is viewed making her way down the servants' stairs down, down

  • to the kitchen clutching a bundle. I will speak more of her later. Sometimes horses

  • are seen individually or a troop of them with some of Cromwell's troopers from the Civil

  • War parading on the south lawn. Sometimes people report seeing a child. It plays in

  • the garden with the other children and yet upon leaving nobody else has seen it. Strange.

  • You remember earlier I spoke to you of one particular case, the young lady the maid?

  • I'll tell you her tale then. Follow me, and watch your step. We're going all the way down

  • to the kitchens.

  • This is where it happened. Beyond, where you see the ovens for baking, this is where it is said she takes her bundle through to them ovens and she casts it within.

  • Now who knows what the bundle contains. There are some that say it is connected to another

  • sound that is heard down here, the crying of a baby or a woman's voice plaintively crying

  • "don't leave me." She who loved and lost and who brings with her the sad and unfortunate

  • result of her dalliances above. Or so they say. Perhaps it were just a pile of rags. We will never know.

  • It was held in the 17th century when this place was constructed, that

  • witches could visit at any time and it was wise when one constructed a building to make

  • marks in the stones to prevent a witch being able to enter. Do you see it here? That's

  • it. That is a hexagram and you see these marks on buildings where the masons have carved

  • them with the intention of keeping out witches. You'll normally find them near windows. The

  • eternal never-ending circle is to trap a witch as she makes her entry. What if that mark

  • was too late? What if the thing that you were scared was about to come in, was in already?

  • How would it work then? For then whatever was inside would not be able to get out. It would be trapped.

  • Oh this is creepy! Look there's writing here. "I... something..."

  • Did someone hear that? There was like steps. Did anyone smell smoke go past? It felt like

  • somebody who smelt like smoke walked past. Did you hear the noise? Yeah. What was that?

  • That was a child. That was definitely--- ssshh!

  • It's a walkie-talkie. Is it?

  • Why is someone speaking? Please change batteries, the batteries are low. (laughter)

  • So what did you guys think? The kitchen. As soon as you got down to the kitchen the atmosphere

  • changed completely. Ash and I heard noises at exactly the same time. Humming, banging,

  • smoke going by, crackling. And the smells as well. Amazing. Crazy. We hope you guys

  • enjoyed it and thank you very much for watching. We're in the castle now, we've been given

  • a little tour by Grim and now we're let alone to explore this spooky place with Ash and

  • Amy. Let's do it! I can't believe we're sleeping in a haunted castle tonight...
